Yay for more Classics. Boo for no more Alternators/Binaltech. Three Ultra class Classics, eh? Wonder what those will end up being. Unbelievably kick-rear end Omega Supreme? Combiner teams with accurate vehicle modes? The Aerialbots are due for an upgrade, IMO. I just hope they don't waste the Ultras on more Prime and Megatron.

Woo, alright, just got back from Botcon. First off, it was awesome. I haven't been to one in many years and it has become absolutely massive. The coolest sights: -The Optimus big rig from the movie was there courtesy of Hasbro, along with display cases full of the upcoming movie toys. Ultimate Bumblebee looks great, and so does the new lineup of deluxe figures that includes Arcee. -A Sector Seven interactive event was there. You went into this black trailer and 'Men in Black' type guys started telling you about 'rumours of non-biological entities in the area', and then a transmission comes in and shows a not-before seen clip of the movie starring Scorponok. It was neat. -The movie premiere Thursday night. One producer showed up, whose name is lost to me, as well as the actress who was the blonde hacker in the film, and Tyrese Gibson showed up too. People were going absolutely nuts, and there were dozens of moments where the entire theater was standing and cheering. Some really great nods to G1 stuff are in there...and there are some funny scenes. The film is pretty long, and as far as PG-13 films go it's not a soft-ball. Lots of 'poo poo', I think one or two 'gently caress's, and a whole lot of violence/death. Also, the movie was really, really good - and there are some pretty incredible scenes. -Peter Cullen autographed a table in the convention hall for some reason. -That giant Devastator that you saw pics of earlier in the thread, plus an even bigger giant Bruticus. Both lit up and moved around a bit. -A massive Autobot hand breaking through the floor holding a clock counting down the time to the movie. I'll have tons of pics and a few video clips up later. Not too many costumes this year. One pretty good Starscream, a couple who went as Red Alert and Ironhide, and some chick who came as the Baroness. And of course, the loot. I walked away with -Masterpiece Megs and Screamer -'Hybrid Style' Convoy. If you haven't seen this thing yet, it's probably one of the coolest TF figures ever made - http://www.tfsource.com/Reissues/TH...HX02-Convoy.htm -About a dozen various movie posters, which they were basically just handing out. -Revoltech Megatron and a Revoltech Unit-1 from Evangelion -The box set of exclusives, the clear Mirage exclusive, and the Huffer/Springer exclusive pack. All of which are great. Also a brilliant target gift-card that transforms into a little Optimus. -A few random shirts. -A signed copy of that Arcee pinup poster. -Signed up for the Collector's Club finally and got a ton of back-magazines and a couple of the toys. -BC '07 light up mug. -That Toys R Us Soundwave -The Robot Heroes Prime/Unicron and Jazz/Cracker pack -Pretty much the set of World's Smallest Transformers -A teeny, tiny little Arcee model kit I've never seen before that I have to assemble/paint. -A crazy little Silverbolt model kit that I got for $1 mostly because of the great insane Japanese packaging. -A boxed set of the entire G1 cartoon and the movie all in one beautiful book-style case that comes in a great tin. -The Saturday Night party goody bag, which had another movie poster, a reproduction of the great air-freshener Bumblebee has in the movie, a sheet of trading cards, and a 'Party like it's 1984' shirt with a picture of Optimus holding Soundwave. Anyway, it was a great time. I overslept my goddamn Hasbro tour so I'm not sure how cool that ended up being. I'll have pics up in a day or so. DarkPrime posted:Are you gonna give us a heads up? DOH! I'm way too tired right now. I may need pictures to have this make sense, I don't know. Next time you're in target, look at the end of an aisle. Like the backside of the endcap, in the aisle itself. There will be little barcodes posted up there. These are location codes. When something is going to be clearanced on that aisle, the tag will be red instead of yellow. Soon after (not sure how long) something will be going clearance on that aisle. Note: not everything on that aisle will necessarily go on clearance. For example, my Target has spiderman and transformers stuff both on the same aisle. At some point, I'm sure they're going to clearance out the Spiderman stuff; probably before they do anything clearance with transformers. The red tag will go up, then they'll eventually clearance out the spiderman stuff and something will take its place. And now for something completely different. I'm going to repaint my megatron due to the horrible paint that he comes with and have realized that it wouldn't be that hard to make the wings/nose of the jetmode into their own separate entity that can combine with him. The part that hangs down between his legs happens to rotate up, which would give him a pretty decent looking back, too. The question is, should I commit multiple infractions of transformery sacrilege and make the jet drone into Laserbeak? He'd still combine to make a "supermode" with megs. Also, I figured out a pretty decent galvatron-esque artillery platform alt mode with him de-winged. It's atleast as good as the "cybertronian jet mode." Edit: not so pretty pictures. ![]() ![]() Why yes... his head does indeed attach to his rear end in that mode. SpikeMcclane fucked around with this message at Jul 2, 2007 around 02:41 |

i'll believe that "new animated series toys are awesome, honest!" poo poo when i see it. conventions have a way of getting people so excited that a turd in a box with a rubsign on it could cause mass hysteria. "HOLY gently caress MISB SHITTATRON IS THAT A JAPANESE ORIGINAL(BM-02)?" i realized something that was a little weird today. i'm tearing through this transformers game, collecting all the little energon whossits and faction symbols, and i unlocked the G1 prime model. so i giddily hurry to the menu to enable it, wander around a little as oldschool prime, and then... i changed it back. as much as i love and respect that old diaclone design, for the here and the now, this is optimus prime. bay and his designers and the ilm guys and even the animators on this game have really pulled it off. long hood, chrome, flames, blue lights, hell, even the lips. i thought it would be weird forever but if you just relax and let the property be what it is, it's no different than the update from a new toy line. the movie character conveys such a sense of power and size as well as being agile, even nimble looking. and "emotes" better. and really looks like an actual robot. the more i look at the movie designs, the more the big all-right-angles designs look silly. i really kind of hope the more flexible-looking, intricate designs from the movie filter down into classics redesigns and such. i guess at the end of the day, nostalgia is still a factor, but nerdrage can be put to rest and what it all comes down to is, the coolest looking robot wins. and if that's not a metaphor for life... no. no, that's really not a metaphor for life at all.
