I managed to do it with the gauze garters I had collected for my shadow, plus face stabbing whenever I could withstand a hit, plus the PZNR I picked up before ascending.

The fight with the shadow turned out fine too, since I had 11 red pixel potions after making the digital key.

I do have some pirate juice, but I plan on using it to pwn the NS with a moxie secondary class in softcore.

Okay so, two days ago I finally got off my lazy rear end and beat the NS. Now I have my pexiglass watch ready to use as soon as I get enough levels, and my little level 3 Oxycore sauceror is finally kicking rats and taking names.

Amen. I FINALLY finished my HCO TT run and went to a no-path Sauceror HC run for Advanced Saucecrafting. The early game is so wildly different when you can eat and drink, it's crazy. Plus, I lucked out and got three hamethysts, a baconstone, and a porquoise, so I made a ring from each and now I'm an unstoppable low-level fucker.

What're some good low-level booze farming spots? All I had today were Willers and they just don't cut it. With my crazy (for this level) mana regen, I'm also able to make candy hearts like crazy. I almost considered taking on von Ratsworth at level 4 today, which I never would've done in the past.

I also got a poltergeist-in-the-jar-o for the first time, which apparently does 200 spooky damage. Would this gently caress the Baron up bad, or should I save it for something else?

Last question: every single run, I get the monocle, and keep it equipped during my entire run (except for rollover, where I use a dead guy's watch). Is this smart accessory utilization? Is the 10% item drop for a whole run worth taking up a slot?

Haunted kitchen now drops one more booze that isn't bad, and some low level food. Pretty useful place around level 2.

It would kick its rear end, but there's tougher enemies then him. It's up to you though. Too bad most of the strong bosses are spooky. A cola grenade could do the trick.

It's a pretty good accessory, and in HC all the item drops you can get are important. Optimally switch it out when you're in a zone where drops don't matter, but it's a pretty useful item all around. Maybe not as good as the hat though..

When I fight the last guy on the battlefield, I usually use every single buff item available to me. That means using hairspary and Bengal from the market, the buffing items from the black market, super spiky hair gel (airship), pygmy pigment (if you have some), sugar rush, etc. He either doesn't scale, or he has a cap, because usually once I stack all those buffs, he can't hit me.

I really think something got bugged when that happened. I ascended that day and lost my buffs when fighting the NS. If the NS wasn't taking away buffs anymore, I'm sure there'd be some kind of update for it, or at least people would be talking about it on the officials.

Maybe she doesn't wipe your AT buffs when playing as an AT anymore. It'd be a new update because I haven't heard about it. There's always been a lot of complaining about how ATs have a rough time fighting her because all they have is Moxious Maneuver. If there's any ATs almost at the NS, post about if she removes the buffs still.

With the exceptions of receiving gift packages (which you can open after freeing the king) and PVP, yes. However, after freeing the king, until you ascend again, HC restrictions are lifted.

Also, I picked up a C.A.R.N.I.V.O.R.E. button yesterday, which is apparently worth a lot more meat than I've ever had in the mall. Should I sell it, or is +15 monster level really that useful?

I'm playing through my first time, halfway through level 9. Should I sell my Facsimile dictionary so I have enough meat to buy a store, or should I use it to make that sword behind inappropriate prepositions?

Save the dictionary for your next run if you plan to continue with softcore. The extra 20k meat at the start of your run is far more valuable. It may make things a little rougher your first run through, but shouldn't be by much. And will make things more pleasant for successive runs if you just stash it away for the next run.

Don't worry about meat for the store, that's covered. If you're planning to ascend immediately, save the dictionary for your next run; if you're planning to stick around in this life, the extra adventures per day are worth it. At least I think so.

If you're grinding for levels at this point, you'll want to get a hovering sombrero. Get a poultrygeist and an irate sombrero from South of the Border and smith them together.

The Fez of Etymology, which you smith from a facsimile dictionary, isn't bad headgear for a Moxie class, either. Eventually the Fancy Ball Mask beats it due to it's bonus being derived from your base Moxie, but it can be worth a pull.

Just out of curiosity, why do people do softcore? Hardcore is so much more challenging and rewarding, and being able to pull items you've acquired prior to your current run seems like cheating to me.

I'm doing my first Sauceror run after about six HC ascensions (two HCO)...I thought Saucerors would suck, but due to Moxie being their secondary stat rather than tertiary (like Pastamancers), it hasn't been so bad.

Next comes Bad Moon Disco Bandit, because I need me some cocktailcrafting.

I don't know why, but making Hell Ramen myself is so rewarding it's ridiculous.

Because to me Hardcore is pointless. You put forth the time and effort to get things and then you can't even use them. Oh boy one item from your last run. And the only reward is more tedium, more time, and the exact same item every run with that class. You get a skill permed either way, which is the ultimate reward for any kind of ascension.

I haven't played seriously since NS13 and returning to serious business university, but NS11 HC was a nice game because it couldn't be skewed by URs and raffle prizes or donations, and I was well off enough to have the FotMs and tome/libram to run my game from. It was very math, and a personal challenge to get my days/turns down to as efficient as possible.

The only thing softcore was to me after my initial getting acquainted phase was for attempting 1-dayers, which was very stressful. Pull optimization was never my strong point.

If you're comparing your run time to other people doing the same type of ascension you are and trying to go the fastest in that context, softcore can be a lot harder than hardcore. If you're just farting around and going at a somewhat decent speed, neither style of play is difficult at all. People shitfling about this point all the time on the regular forums, though. I'm not looking for an argument, but we disagree on this point.

I don't, however, see why people do softcore after NS13 hit, now that the game requires you to fetch and assemble an insane number of quest items and you can choose casual if you don't feel like putting up with hardcore.

Ehh. 6 or 7 HC runs for the rewards, a couple HCOs maybe. I've already done those. The plexi hat is real nice, especially as a moxie class. The requirements on plexi make them still only somewhat useful even with NS13 -- though they're far more useful than they used to be. Pants are good too, I may get them someday. Pocketwatch is decent, but more useful when you're not constantly ascending. Pike is worthless (unless you PvP maybe?). Pinky ring is pretty worthless. Pendant was cooler before it got fixed =-p

Brimstone stuff is a bit more appealing, due to the low stat requirements and the negative stats not usually being a huge deal. As you can either wear two opposing items and come out +30%/+30% or gimp a stat you don't really need (myst for a lot of runs). Only ones that really interest me for my runs are a single Bludgeon and prolly a bracelet.

And you can only perm a softie skill from a softcore run, which is only useful in softcore, which is now 'hardcore lite.' The only reason for a person who would rather play hardcore than hardcore lite to do a softcore run would be to churn out trophies, grab once-per-ascension items, or do relatively quick basement runs. Now there's no reason for someone like that to do softcore because they can do casual.

I guess you'd do softie runs for jack of all trades and trivially skilled.

-edit- I guess people might find softcore fun. I used to, but then it changed on me, the bastard.
