If I start exclusively doing HC runs, all of the poo poo I have now is basically lost to me, right? And I'm essentially cut off from dealing with other players?

So I can play with all of my awesome things, but only after there's absolutely nothing left to do.

Hm. I may do a couple HC runs just for the reward gear, but I think I'm sticking with normal ascensions.
