how about i just leave and never come back?, that cool with you guys

Finally back in the swing of things at paintball (now that the snow is gone), My buddy brought out his hugely insanely expensive Mil-Sig complete with a bucket of First Strike rounds, and holy crap! (I want one!, but cant afford his massive 800 dollar price tag) he was grouping his shots at the range within about a 6 inch diameter circle at about 25-30 meters.

The shells sound like glass when they break nearby you, it is quite a frightening sound.

So, I have a fun activity some of you may or may not be interested in.

A friend and I have decided to Purchase the Field where we play paintball, and move it closer to town.

We are trying to design a few fields that we could potentially build.

We will be needing 3 designs in the end.

Woods-ball Court (about the shape and size of a football field)

Speedball court (We dislike Speedball, but they are a large group of players)

and then later when its taken off a bit, we plan on doing an acre of land with like golf carts for transport.

I dunno, it seems like a perfect place to crowd source some great ideas from people that play alot.

Please help us goons!

You're not going to make money operating a field.

Get quotes for liability insurance. There's only a handful of underwriters that do paintball fields. Calculate that into your cost of business. Here's two:

http://www.paintball-apl.com/
http://www.cossioinsurance.com/emai...ld_update1.html

Look up relevant zoning laws in your destination city. I know of a few fields around here that were prevented from opening (even after all their initial investments and build-out costs) because they couldn't get city hall to sign off.

Figure out what supplies you're going to offer and how you're going to do it. You'll need paint, and high pressure air, and possibly CO2 if you cater to a lot of milsim players (or walmart shoppers). HPA compressors are expensive and dangerous. Renting dump tanks and cascading fill setups is also costly. Filling CO2 is another thing entirely.

Once you have the basic business fundamentals down, then you can start thinking about how you lay out your fields.

In all due respect.

Assume that we have our accountants and lawyers looking over all the stuff we need them to.

The place we are buying has a large loyal customer base, we are moving it closer to the main city by about 20 minutes of driving.

According to his sales figures last year, he makes about $60k after all of his expenses.

We are familiar with running a business.

I was not asking about weather or not to buy the field, that is already happening. I am asking for designs for our field, bunker set-ups, things that are good ideas to make a good paintball experience, for both new and veteran players.

I would like to mention that I do say all that with respect, as much as it sounds like I am talking down to you.

This was solely me Crowd sourcing a decent layout for our field.

Edit: I should mention that we have all of our own HPA pump, and CO2 Tanks, and Nitro tanks coming with the business, plus contacts through the original owner with a company to fill our CO2/Nitro tanks.

also, air is ALWAYS FREE at our field. (Once you have paid your field fees)

That's refreshing to hear, best of luck to you.

For speedball fields I think your best bet is to scour YouTube for tournament videos and see which field layouts encourage the style of play you're looking for and then start with that layout. Modify as needed to compensate for missing/incorrect bunker types. NPPL was built around semi auto play so you might want to start there. Meanwhile x-ball was built as multi round match for points, and the field layouts are designed to encourage audience viewership.

Its nice that you have a business background to get this off the ground, but do you have anyone that knows a lot about paintball or has connections within the industry? It sounds like you have more of a rental / recreational / weekend warrior type of customer, and less tournament players? I would consider that an advantage since a large amount of the money comes from these segments.

For speedball you want whatever the local teams are playing. If there is a larger amount of NPPL teams you want that type of field, alternatively if you have more PSP teams you want their newest layouts. NPPL is capped semi at 15bps and PSP is capped ramping at 12.5 bps, with different ways to score rounds or points. It doesn't really matter how your speedball customers play, unless you host scrim events that mimic actual tournaments. You can even have your rental customers play on these layouts for a chance of pace. You could also have teams that play local PSP feeder leagues that have their own layouts. (This will probably be the case if you have actual teams preparing for events at the current field) As small as this segment is, you cant ignore it. Teams are very faithful to locations that give them discounts on entry and paint. It really depends on if you want to explore this route, as many teams will come every weekend and could buy multiple cases per person.

Our local field has some fun recreational fields as well. Most are made out of old wooden container crates, with a western style field, large castle attack and defend field, and another rec field that uses old cars, crates, and large tires. It really depends on how much work you want to put into the customer experience, and how many resources you have. They also host lazer tag, which actually does quite well.

Do you just have flat land, or is it more of a woodsy location?

We actually have both.

I am looking for a blueprint of sorts of wacky field Ideas anyone has/wants to make.

We have suppliers to replace all the old Metal drums on the field with Blue Plastic ones, we got a Front end Loader, and 2 bobcats, More wood than Ron Jeremy, all we need are some visionaries.

I should also preface this with, we are running the business where it is now, on the field that is there currently, until next year when hopefully we have our own field(s) built!

I have a bunch of Ideas for field design in a book, sort of a pipe dream idea.
