TG-Chrono posted:The only bands that I can think of off the top of my head isn't reaaallly post-rock but eh, My Disco is kind of angular and mathy. And Eleventh He Reaches London is more drawn out indie-core with some post-rock elements or whatever, I just think that maybe people will like them because I've liked a lot of the stuff posted here and I want to contribute with some lesser known Australian bands. Nikko do some post rock-ish sort of stuff too. They have vocals in a lot of their songs and I don't really listen to them enough to know all the track titles and stuff. I think the instrumental stuff they do is OK but it's kinda "safe".

Tangled Thoughts of Leaving are from Australia, they're pretty good and often mix in very jazzy sounds. I like em. In other news, Sigur Rós new album is going to be the best thing ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dF6E47Pn6mY

Dirty Three are from Australia. So are sleepmakeswaves and Because of Ghosts. Recommending all of them.

http://vimeo.com/64254353 Found this on Facebook yesterday and bookmarked it. Don't remember which Facebook I found it on. Anyway, I'm just getting around to watching it now. It's obviously great because it's Mono playing live and giving an interview. Check this out if you've never seen them live before, or even if you have. If you haven't, this will help convince you of why you need to.

eithedog posted:Dirty Three are from Australia. One of my absolute favorites; definitely one of my top 5 post rock groups. Recently just picked up Ocean Songs on vinyl (I'm relatively new to that game); can't wait to get their s/t, Horse Stories, and Whatever You Love You Are on vinyl eventually as well. One of the better live acts as well. My favorite song is definitely Deep Waters. I've commented on here before about how I think this thread pays too much attention to current acts while tending to neglect discussion about the greater (IMO), older acts; well, here's a song of theirs from 2012 that I enjoyed more than GY! BE or any other post rock act song from that year: Ashen Snow. I'll have it on record that I am a huge GY! BE fanboy, I just tend to think they are praised too much.

I noticed something in a song by The Unwinding Hours, a band I never thought of as a post rock band till I bothered to listen to the guitar in this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_KfdO6xjqo I guess that sustained tremolo picking with loads of reverb is just so normal in my mind that I didn't notice it.

Just wanted to throw out a recommendation for El Ten Eleven. I saw them live in concert on Saturday (they were opening for Bonobo) and they loving killed it. They're not slow and brooding like a lot of post-rock bands. Rather, they have the kinetic energy of a band like Maserati, playing fast and incorporating lots of dynamics. They're only two guys - a guitarist/bassist who plays a double neck (and does lots of cool looping and e-bow work), and a drummer. And between songs at the show, they made a point of saying that they only use live instruments and no computers (which was simultaneously eye-rolling and kind of impressive). Their newest album, which came out last year, is called Transitions and the title track is reeeeeally good. It was just as good as this live, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaJxGtI4GvM I used to listen to them years ago when their album Every Direction Is North came out, and I really liked them back then, but I fell out of touch with them for one reason or another. Really glad I got to see that show on Saturday to knock some sense back into me. This band rules and I shouldn't have stopped paying attention to them. Went to see T E Morris form her Name is Calla and Midas fall the other night. Quite a good show but it was so empty, I felt really bad for them, must have been like 15 people there max. Had a good chat with them tho and bought some albums and stuff.

They've been mentioned in this thread before despite being kinda marginally post-rock, but iamthemorning has a Kickstarter for their new album. I would really like to see that entire concert with the string orchestra.

Sigur Ros is gonna be on The Simpsons tonight! Episode is on now, but they haven't shown up yet. It's an hour long so they'll probably come on a little later. edit: Mannn, it was only a one second shot of them in a crowd of people in Iceland. But Olsen Olsen was played during a montage scene!
