A Californian band who play politically charged rock music? Sounds familiar huh? But these guys are so much more than post-rock's Rage Against the Machine. as their myspace puts it, take GY!BE and mix it with some DJ Shadow, add some samples from movies, political speeches and commercials, and you have one of the most original and unique albums I've ever heard.

The last 3 songs of Beast, Please Be Still's S/T album rank right at the top of any work done in post-rock, and maybe even music, ever. Every single thing is spot on. You're sitting there going "man, this is a pretty rocking drum beat" during Annihilate Everything That Exists and then you go "oh poo poo, a loving FLUTE solo. this is amazing". Then you get into the song Clouds and it's basically like an auditory movie, you can see a movie in your freaking mind and then you get to And Then You Took Over and you can just see yourself laying in bed with the one you love and them saying all the things you've always wanted to hear.

It's just amazing and if you haven't heard those last 3 songs you really owe it to yourself to.

This just came in the mail, along with a handwritten letter of thanks, pretty awesome guys!

New Maybeshewill seems very short to me, probably because I listened the gently caress out of the Her Name is Calla split when it came out, so it's really only 6 new songs. The speech in the last track is brilliant though.

Not sure if they've been mentioned in the thread or not, but you all really need to check out Gifts From Enola. They've just released their new album From Fathoms (which got an 8.5 from The Silent Ballet) but their first album Loyal Eyes Betrayed the Mind or the split they did with You.May.Die.In.The.Desert are both stellar as well.

If you like your Post Rock powerful and explosive, these are the guys you need to listen to.

ASIWYFA absolutely destroy live, I saw them in a tiny room that held maybe 50 people, the place nearly exploded. Highly recommended.

I also suggest you all check out the new French Teen Idol album, it's a mix of post rock and electronic drum beats, and it is brilliant. There's sound clips for vocals as well in some tracks if you're into that kind of thing.

Do Make Say Think have added vocals to a few songs, but are still consistent as hell. Mogwai have only released one album since Mr. Beast, called The Hawk is Howling. Personally I loved it, but opinions seem to be varied.

Good Post Rock albums since 2006 in no particular order.

Enjoy Eternal Bliss by Yndi Halda. Think happy GY!BE, utterly mindblowing

JXIII by Johnnytwentythree. I am loving horrible at writing descriptions, but to me, this is the quiet loud of EITS meets the epicness of Godspeed.

Everything ever released by Caspian. If you're disappointed with Mogwai in recent years, you'll love these guys.

Easily Misunderstood by The Samuel Jackson Five. Happy, upbeat, fun, jazzy. Forget being one of the best post rock albums of the past decade, this is one of the best albums ever, period.

Painstakingly recorded and mixed by famed producer Matt Bayles (Mastodon, ISIS, Minus The Bear), Holy Ground brilliantly captures every moment of whispered calm and breathless beauty with patient clarity. Included with the album is a stunning live DVD documenting the entire 90-minute performance, featuring live orchestral versions of many of MONO's most beloved songs. For a decade fans have clamored for a MONO album that matches the catharsis of their infamous live shows, and Holy Ground overwhelmingly delivers. The awe-striking 3xLP vinyl format - strictly limited to 3,000 copies - is packaged in a heavyweight triple-gatefold jacket, and includes the DVD as well as a bonus track not included on the CD format.
