Apparently I could go see GYBE for as little as a tenner in Bristol in October. I think I'd be silly not to take that up but I'm a little unsure of how they'd be live, though.

Also, are there many dudes here into Grails? Do they even count as post-rock? Some of the stuff on Burning Off Impurities is groovy as gently caress.

So dudes, I am almost certainly going to try and get tickets to see Explosions in the Sky, and I hope you all are, too!

But my question is, do I go to the Manchester Academy, or London Roundhouse?

Nuclear Spoon
Aug 18, 2010

Yeah, I've been told that the Roundhouse is good and that Manchester is kinda scummy (this may or may not be true).

In more important news:

Mogwai's new album has been leaked. Not that I condone listening to it before buying it, of course.

Pretty stoked for it.

They're also releasing the next Black Tar Prophecies at some point are they not?

In better news, Grails' new album "Deep Politics" is out if you know where to look.

I'm halfway through my first listen, the first and title track have stuck out for me so far. It's Grailsy as you might expect.

Played a show with Caspian tonight. In addition to being incredibly nice guys, they were better tonight than when I saw them last Spring. That is to say that they were absolutely loving fantastic and still the most energetic/fun to watch post-rock band I've ever seen live.

Chiaroscuro and Native were also awesome. Great show all-around.

You've probably been asked this before, but if you're playing with Caspian then you guys must be really loving tight. Have you got a link to your stuff?

I actually haven't! And not exactly. We met them last Spring when they played here in New Orleans and kept in contact with Phil. They were going to pass through here and we needed to book our album release show, and it kind of all just fell into place. We were very lucky and blessed to have gotten such a great opportunity And they all liked our set and offered to play with us again in the future, so that's pretty amazing.

The whole thing still seems kinda unreal to me. They've been one of my favorite bands for the last few years, and The Four Trees and Tertia are both up there as some of my most listened to post-rock albums ever, and there we were, just hanging out with them in the green room at the venue, talking and joking like we'd been buddies for a while.

But yeah, anyway, here's our album teaser:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4o23k_RO1E

The quality on YouTube kinda sucks, though. We have some full songs up on our Tumblr page if you want to listen to those: http://aiuaband.tumblr.com

I apologize for all the self-promoting here. It's just a post-rock dream come true for me, and I'm floating on Cloud 9 after that show

I really like "He Who Strikes First Wins"! It's super awesome you got to play with those guys, I hope your new found success continues.

edit: Wandering Flatliner is pretty sweet too, I'd love to hear your stuff in high quality.

They are pretty different bands. Mogwai tend to be a bit heavier and a little more melodic. I would have to say their latest is probably my favourite though. White Noise and Death Rays are about as close as they get to twinklecore.

Nuclear Spoon

White Noise, Death Rays, San Pedro and How To Be A Werewolf are all pretty great, by boring do you mean a lack of "in your face" crescendos?

I am convinced this is one of the greatest tragedies in music, but at the same time, maybe it's a really effective device for provoking emotion? I know this album's like 6 years old and I guess nobody gives a poo poo but lately I've really been digging it.

That's awesome! Is that a goon channel or something? And do a lot of people use it? I'm not too familiar with IRC, but that rules. We love any exposure we can get!

Waffles and what.cd are offshoots of OiNK, a private music tracker. It's not goon run. I'm not entirely sure what I've said here is within the rules of SA but I'm not linking anything so I guess that's okay? You've had 48 downloads on what.cd, and 19 times on waffles.

As of now, there are 34 people in the #post-rock channel. (Not discounting bots and stuff). Not the largest, but your name's out.

It's #post-rock on irc.p2p-network.net if you or anyone else wants to pop in.

Oh, you're on Spotify, too! http://open.spotify.com/album/2hV2y5OESP6L9DGSG5KpbB
