BITTER POOR PERSON
A bit late but saw the Slackers last Friday.

Goddamn how had I not been to one of their shows before? 2 hour set in a small venue for $12 with a band with a stage show that rivals the pre-hiatus Bosstones. They're now on my "go to any show within driving distance" list.

e: although my wife and I were kind of :smith: when one of the opening acts asked the crowd if we'd like a Prince Buster song and we were two of maybe six people who cheered.

A band I'd like to get into (as I've said before, my taste in American ska music tends to run to Moon Ska rather than ska punk - they seem like they're on the right side of 1996 to me) but I'm not sure where to start with them.

"Prince Buster? He's not ska. Everyone knows ska is punk with horns."

Wasted Days and Redlight is the best place to start imo

What type of ska band are Mustard Plug? Who would they be closest to musically?

3rd wave? RBF is a pretty good comparison I think. They even have a song called Beer!

RxB show was awesome; hearing them with a horn section again was pretty drat cool and good. I heard from friends who saw them out on Long Island on Saturday that they gave a shoutout to The Downtown and to ASOB :madmax:

Highlight of the night though was a guy who gave me props on my Mike Park t-shirt

Worry loving rules. Only problem I have it is almost the entire second half consists of minute-long songs that sorta blur together.

That's one of the things I love about it. It's the punk rock version of Abbey Road.

Holy porkman! I had no idea the porkers were still gigging. I love all their stuff and was a massive fan in the nineties, but once their mailing list stopped posting updates I sort of assumed they just stopped gigging. Super excited to hear they're recording a new album.

They were dressed in Super Sentai costumes but also wearing M&M's costumes over that, they also pantomimed basically "who wants to play our instruments" to the audience and that's the story of how I ended up playing the main riff from Blitzkrieg Bop with 2 strangers over and over while the band did human bowling with the crowd

I didn't realize they're holding it again, why'd they skip last year?

I'll probably try and make it out, it's usually a good time even though the only people older than me there are the band.

Any of y'all listen to the Impossibles? They're almost unknown from what I've found, and they're so drat good. I recommend Eightball and Fatboy to start off. It's rollicking, chugging stuff. It's the meat and potatoes of ska-punk I'd say.
