Josh Wow posted:Big D were doing great for a while. Shot by Lammi was pretty good, Good luck was killer, Gypsy Hill was still good even though some of the songs were a little boring, and Good Luck was 2/3 of a really good record but they decided to make it ultra long and leave in stuff that should have been cut. Then they started playing dub. I don't know how many of you own the Salem Girls EP but it is ridiculously bad. When that came out they started playing dub live and stupid Dave would be playing his stupid rear end melodica at every show. This is where Big D really went downhill. Seriously though I'm looking at http://www.myspace.com/djbcvsbigdandthekid39stable - is this the dub album? It sounds pretty cool, if you ask me.

Dickeye posted:Someone on another forum told me that my friends' band wasn't really ska Seriously, the off-beat guitar strokes are typically the backbone, but my favourite bands are the ones that aren't afraid to step away from that model, and only go back when there's a whole bunch of other stuff going on. This band here I'm really hesitating to call this as ska though. I guess I can hear it in the vocals a little. But my point is, punk with horns is great, who cares if they're not "ska," a genre is not a measure of quality.

I'm excited. The venue will generally provite free water (even if it's just lukewarm). It's the law in aust. Should be in the US. If you wanna mosh: Don't wear a jumper/wifebeater under your normal clothes. It might be cold out, but I garuntee you'll be drenched with sweat of questionable origin after. Pants with large pockets so your wallet doesnt fall out, so you can place shirts in if you buy them pre-concert, as some sizes may be sold out. Rare, I guess, but it happens sometimes. Don't change into the shirts you buy unless you want to be laughed at as you walk past people you don't know. It doesn't really matter at all but hey, if it bothers you, there you go. Edit: I own two RBF shirts, an older black tour one, and a lime green one that I bought at the same time as my streetlight one. I never wear the black as it's faded and the material kind of sucks. The lime green one is getting that way, but the streelight one is still soft and wearable. I don't know what it is, seeing as it looks like they were made by the same company, but the streetlight shirt is definitely much better quality. dnz fucked around with this message at 11:49 on Oct 17, 2008 |

And a horn section.) Reel Big Fish - Turn the Radio Off No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom/The Beacon Street Collection. The Aquabats - The Fury of [The Aquabats] The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Let's face it The Suicide Machines - Destruction By Definition Catch 22/SM - Keasby Nights (all Catch 22 after this album differs greatly due to drama, I like post-kalnoky Catch, and so do alot of others, but alot also don't. Just a heads up.) SM - Everything Goes Numb Bandits Of The Acoustic Revolution - SM Acoustic. Big D and the Kids Table - There's some debate here, try How It Goes or anything before it. Don't get Porch Life and expect ska, though.

The new fish album should come as a double CD, the second CD being all the different versions of SR, fleshed out into full songs. Similar to Mindless Self Indulgence's Straight to Video cd.

mix.lunar posted:That's the main reason I love Reel Big Fish. They all seem to love what they're doing no matter what they do. Last I saw them, some time mid last year, they had barely any energy. They did all of their schtick alright, but they - Aaron mainly, I guess, since he's the main guy to interect with everything else, crowd, other bandmates - had gently caress all energy. It was a real let down. We're not happy was a pretty great break away, sylistically, but most of the songs are still uninspired, regardless. Monkeys for nothing is b-sides, so I never expected it to be that great. Sure enough, I've listened to it the whole way through, maybe once or twice. They'll probably just continue the trend of 3-6 listenable songs per album until they give up. And hey, Cheer Up was pretty rockin.

When they announced the track list for Scrambles I was like 'gently caress YEA WEDNESDAY NIGHT DRINKBALL THAT'S GONNA BE SWEET rear end PUNK ROCK!!!' then it was this acoustic semi-indie bullshit. You can't name a song a title that awesome then have weak rear end music. Also agreeing that the facial hair is pretty tits. I have no idea why they chose that song for a video. With 25 and Stuff That I Like, it just seems odd. There's a reason the slow songs are usually the second or 3rd single for an album. E: Also: look @ dis guy refer to indie as a genre.
