Big D were doing great for a while. Shot by Lammi was pretty good, Good luck was killer, Gypsy Hill was still good even though some of the songs were a little boring, and Good Luck was 2/3 of a really good record but they decided to make it ultra long and leave in stuff that should have been cut. Then they started playing dub. I don't know how many of you own the Salem Girls EP but it is ridiculously bad. When that came out they started playing dub live and stupid Dave would be playing his stupid rear end melodica at every show. This is where Big D really went downhill.

They then announce that their next 3 albums are going to be a ska album, a punk album, and a dub album? What the hell? I don't know if their success went to their heads or Dave finally started making the decisions or what but goddamn is that a horrible idea. So they release a split with Brain Failure where Brain Failure's side is 10 times better than Big Ds. They had 1.5 good songs on it, which were Digging In Your Nails (which is still kinda annoying due to Dave's voice) and I'm Yours Boston which is a good song with really annoying singing/lyrics. At this point they've consecutively released a bad EP and a pretty bad half of a split. This is when Strictly Rude comes out.

At first when Strictly Rude came out I thought it was horrible except for Noise Complaint and Fly Away. Even Noise Complaint isn't that great because of how repetitive the lyrics are and how they totally hosed up the gang vocals and everybody sounds bored, but I still like it. As I've listened to it I realize it isn't a horrible record, but it is a horrible Big D record. It doesn't sound anything like the good Big D from back in the day. At best it's a mediocre record but they say this is their all ska record and they put just an absolutely horrid acoustic-to-punk song on it "let the drat cows moo...." and don't even have that much ska on it to call it strictly rude and good god I loving hate what Big D has become they used to be so good. Sorry that was so long, I needed to vent.
The only Big D album worth a drat is Porch Life. :colbert:

Seriously, the off-beat guitar strokes are typically the backbone, but my favourite bands are the ones that aren't afraid to step away from that model, and only go back when there's a whole bunch of other stuff going on.

This band here I'm really hesitating to call this as ska though. I guess I can hear it in the vocals a little. But my point is, punk with horns is great, who cares if they're not "ska," a genre is not a measure of quality.

Don't wear a jumper/wifebeater under your normal clothes. It might be cold out, but I garuntee you'll be drenched with sweat of questionable origin after. Pants with large pockets so your wallet doesnt fall out, so you can place shirts in if you buy them pre-concert, as some sizes may be sold out. Rare, I guess, but it happens sometimes. Don't change into the shirts you buy unless you want to be laughed at as you walk past people you don't know. It doesn't really matter at all but hey, if it bothers you, there you go.

Edit: I own two RBF shirts, an older black tour one, and a lime green one that I bought at the same time as my streetlight one. I never wear the black as it's faded and the material kind of sucks. The lime green one is getting that way, but the streelight one is still soft and wearable. I don't know what it is, seeing as it looks like they were made by the same company, but the streetlight shirt is definitely much better quality.

I've got a small collection of songs from a variety of the bigger names, mostly RBF and LTJ, but a bit of SM, Bosstones, and Goldfinger. It's more of a greatest hits type collection, with some covers thrown in, but I do have the last two LTJ albums. What full CDs are recomended if you're just getting into the genre?
From what you said, I'm guessing you like punkier ska.

There's alot of ground to cover, but I'll give it a shot:
The Arrogant Sons of Bitches - Three Cheers for Disappointment
Bomb The Music Industry! - Get Warmer (Jeff's getting further and further from ska every album, but there's still some ska that shines through. And a horn section.)
Reel Big Fish - Turn the Radio Off
No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom/The Beacon Street Collection.
The Aquabats - The Fury of [The Aquabats]
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Let's face it
The Suicide Machines - Destruction By Definition
Catch 22/SM - Keasby Nights
(all Catch 22 after this album differs greatly due to drama, I like post-kalnoky Catch, and so do alot of others, but alot also don't. Just a heads up.)
SM - Everything Goes Numb
Bandits Of The Acoustic Revolution - SM Acoustic.
Big D and the Kids Table - There's some debate here, try How It Goes or anything before it. Don't get Porch Life and expect ska, though.

We're not happy was a pretty great break away, sylistically, but most of the songs are still uninspired, regardless.

Monkeys for nothing is b-sides, so I never expected it to be that great. Sure enough, I've listened to it the whole way through, maybe once or twice.

They'll probably just continue the trend of 3-6 listenable songs per album until they give up. And hey, Cheer Up was pretty rockin.

So this is why Tomas is in a sling.....
The story (quoted from the YouTube description): so i was riding my bike around some botanical garden type thing a couple miles from the toronto warped show, hauling rear end down a hill when i came up on a baby deer on the asphalt path. it immediately started running away from me. naturally, i immediately started pedaling double time, to see if i could touch it. apparently i couldn't. the deer ran for a bit then shot to the right, into some brush. right around this point i held up my cellphone and hit record to see if i could at least get the little guy on video. as soon as he turned, my first instinct was to follow him, so i slammed on the brakes. unfortunately it was with the only hand i had on the bike, my left. left handlebar = front wheel brake. my front wheel locked up instantly, and i flew. literally, i flew. my bike followed suit. we both rolled around playfully on the asphalt a bit, just enough to cut me up decently on each of my gangly joints and to come to a nice stop on my chin and left elbow. i laid there, tangled in my bike for about 3 or 4 minutes, just spitting and grunting a bit, catching my breath. when i finally scraped myself off of the ground i looked across the small river i'd been riding next to, to see the little deer standing on the opposite bank, staring at me, ears perked up. when she saw that i was ok (or no longer a threat..?) she skipped away. i dragged myself to the river, cleaned off my wounds then went to look for my phone, which, when i found it 15 minutes later in the shrubs, was still recording a lovely blade of grass. i used it to find a nearby hospital where i was told i'd fractured my radial head (the ball in your elbow). awesome. so yeah, that's why i'm in a sling. the video is not very exciting, but the grunt i let out as soon as i begin my fall is pretty amusing. and you can see the baby deer in the upper left corner of the first 2 or 3 frames.

lesson learned. don't chase deer.
