mrmanatee posted:Ah, that sucks. They're pretty staunch on their anti-amp stance. It's not really an issue outside of the fest, though. They've pretty much peaked as far as new listeners go, I think. And the last time I saw them (in Austin, not exactly a town devoid of their fanbase [filthy hippies]) they sounded A-Okay. Ask them about The Homestead in Southampton - always fun seeing them there, it's a house with a massive conservatory where they have acoustics play. Tell them Matt from Guildford says hi. Also, anyone who's got a chance to see Frightener on tour with Pulling Teeth in the US - DO IT. Brutal, hateful stuff. Nice guys though. Ask Jack (singer) if you can see the two coke cans he carries around with him, and Sam (one of the guitarists) will probably be very happy if you can point him in the direction of a blaze as well.

Sat around talking about tour and british sitcoms. I'll be in the UK next march too if you want to hang out. Pulling Teeth was awesome too- Harms Way and Weekend Nachos opened. For a bigger venue (Reggie's in Chicago) a lot of people came out with some excellent mosh. Class, let me know when you're over. We're not talking Pinky or Fingers by any chance are we?

Mike_V posted:Matt, what is the general opinion over in England (especially I guess amongst the '77 crowd) of American hardcore from the 80s? I ask because when I saw Henry Rollins talk he was talking about his experience lead singing for the Ruts farewell show and he thought it seemed that they thought he couldn't pull it off initially (obviously changed their minds afterwards). It's pretty much a different crowd, and some of them still have an attitude that nothing that came after counts for anything. Mainly that just seemed like a strange combination - The Ruts with Rollins singing. It's not who you'd immediately think of, is it? This weekend was all about the Zatopeks in Guildford. Class Ramones style punk stuff - half of them live in London, and half have moved to Berlin. Kind of makes band practices hard for them, but they're loving ace. That was Saturday, Sunday was a free all dayer in Brighton. The lovely Limits were the highlight of that. Trust me, you definitely want to listen to stuff by this band. On repeat. A lot. Two 7"s out on December 1st. Dumb thing was this Toronto psychobilly band called Creepshow playing. Not for what they played, but for selling shirts for £14, and CDs for £12. Paid less than that at Brixton Academy for a Carter USM shirt.

Class band. We put them on in Guildford on Halloween a few years ago and it was loving nuts. Other bands were all in fancy dress (Twofold, November Coming Fire, xJackox and maybe one more). Singer from Das Oath ended up with some kid's teeth rammed into his forehead, and I had to take him shopping for stera-strips at the 24 hour Tesco to keep the wound closed because he didn't want to go to hospital. People were cleaning fake blood off the ceiling till about 3am and still had to come back to do more the next day. Viva La Vinyl - think C-Zine, but worse record nerdery from skramz kids.

Went and saw Shemer, lovely Limits and some others up in Kingston on Friday. Good times. Some pics here if anyone's interested. Shermer're gruff punk stuff, I've gone on about the Limits pretty often on here. Sunday was a bugger - drove up into London to see Holy Ghost Revival, got there and found they'd already played before 8:30pm. drat. Went drinking at another bar with £1 a shot Jaegermeister with Connor and co while a metal covers band were playing. Turned out to be a good night.

Get the "Epics in Minutes" CD or the Litany 12" LP (not 7" EP called Litany) to get a pretty good idea of the early sound. True. Also get the Hidden World album. I believe there's going to be some hosed Up shows without the rest of the bill.

Annoying thing in the UK is when bands don't make it over the channel due to the cost/work permits/border checks/etc. Especially with South American bands - only found out I Shot Cyrus were in Europe about three days before they were playing Holland/Belgium and couldn't get over there.
