Regarding Butler Creek Hotlips mags, has anyone had trouble with the feed lips on them just getting destroyed by the action? At the range the other day I'd say I had 5 or so feeding problems per mag. The mag lips look like they're both a) covered in carbon build-up and b) worn down, but I don't have another hotlips mag to compare it so.

yeah the ones without the steel lips will do that. for the price these days, I don't think theres any reason not to get the TI mags.

Going to buy a 10/22 either tonight or Monday. Any idea where I can get one of those full-length stocks posted earlier in the thread? From what I can see, they only come with the international version.

I'm looking to sink money into my 10/22 for because my birthday is coming up soon.![]() I want to get tech sights and that butler creek folding stock as pictured above. I know the tech sights are great but I want to know more about the stock. Ive seen a few people who posted in this thread either having one or asking a little bit about them. I have some more specific questions such as how much do they weigh compared to the standard wood stock the gun comes with? How is the balance on it? How is the texture of it, is it hard plastic, a little rubbery, or a lot of rubbery? What about the pistol grip, is it comfortable? Does anyone have any other recommendations for folding stocks?

SanitysEdge posted:I'm looking to sink money into my 10/22 for because my birthday is coming up soon. That stock is great. It's a little heavier than the synthetic stock, a little lighter than wood. Balance is fine; the metal at the back and plastic at the front keep it from being too front-heavy. It's pretty hard plastic, but the checkering is nice on mine. Pistol grip is not perfect but it's better than, say, an A2 grip on an AR-15. I'm pretty sure all other folding stocks for the 10/22 are crap compared to this one, but I would love to see what other people have. edit: probably shouldn't pay more than $80 for one, FYI.

For shame! You need something in the 30-40-50X category. A gigantic, fragile, Hubble-like telescopic white elephant on top of your rifle shows your SERIOUS about target shooting. It also shows that you like looking up over the scope every 2 seconds to try to get the target into the 9" by 9" field of view at 100 yards. That, plus watching the crosshairs bounce all over the drat place from your heartbeat is FUN! ![]() Your goofy post author here is shooting a scope set at 40X off his knee at a 1" target set at 55 yards. The projectile (in this case, a .177 pellet) has to pass INISDE the 1" circle to score a hit. ![]() Same guy, different gun. The scope on this rifle is set at 32X, mostly because that's all it's got. Same target. Yes, I hit both targets. No, I generally don't hit both targets. It's the hardest target on the course and I managed to sneak in hits both times I was photographed. I usually just hit the faceplate of the target, not the kill zone. At least half of the time. Gotta go look at score books.

If you're actually going to shoot it regularly and don't just want something to look cool don't get a folding stock. I wanted to have a nice tactical looking 10/22 myself but after purchasing a different folding stock rifle I know I've purchased my last. They may be cool to look at but they are simply not fun to shoot. Instead I got this Christie and Christie beauty. It comes with the three rails pictured and a nice solid vertical grip. ![]() For the bull barrel version it's $165 and worth every penny. I've never held any other stock for any kind of rifle that has felt this good to me. The standard barrel version runs about $135 or you want to save a few bucks Tapco makes something similar for around $90 but I can't personally vouch for that.

|
| # ? Mar 24, 2008 19:02 |

I assume you mean the two pins holding the trigger group into the receiver, once you've taken the whole action out of the stock? No, there's no reason they wouldn't come out; they're probably just a little tight. Squirt a little WD40 on them, let them sit for an hour, and then go to town with a hammer and a punch. You would have a pretty hard time breaking anything in that vicinity, so don't be shy.

Craptacular posted:Why do you want a folding stock? No really. Do you need one because you'll be getting in and out of vehicles with the gun a lot? Because you need to store the gun in a smaller place than it would fit with a normal stock? Because you think it looks cooler? Any of those are valid reasons I guess, but a fixed stock is going to be a lot better for actually shooting the gun. I'm pretty sure most people who would buy those get them for looks. Hell, the whole reason I bought a 10/22 was to rice it out and have some fun. No, I don't care that it's not terribly accurate. When I want accurate, I'll lay down the cash for a Rem 700. When I want to go loud and drop tangos for three cents a round, though, I'll grab a 10/22. Sure, if I won the lottery or whatever, I'd gladly drop the cash for some Volsquartsen internals, a match barrel, a massive scope, etc. Until then, though, it's a tacticlol folding stock and maybe a 4x scope from craigslist.

Guess what I bought today: ![]() It shoots the rounds on the far left. Click for bigger Two questions: 1) I know the bipods pictured earlier in the thread are made by Harris. What's a good place to get one? 2) Honestly, I like the 10 round magazines. Cheap place to get those? Bonus Lightning Round Question: Any chance of some sort of glowing sights? I might put a scope on there eventually, but taking the center out of a target with irons is so much more pleasing. Edit: I thought of something else. The auto bolt close that's been mentioned. What exactly does it do? I know now that you have to hold the bolt back, press and release the bolt hold, then release the bolt. What changes in that process? I'm not sure if this has been asked/covered in this thread, but I just bought some cheap Remington Thunderbolt ammo (150 rounds) and did some internet searching and read some horror stories about the wax coating ruining rifling and turning the exit hole of the barrel (I'm not so great on gun terminology yet ) into a nice oval shape. Should I be concerned and perhaps just suck up the loss and buy some better ammo? Thanks!

Pitch posted:Worst case scenario: you have to spend a little longer cleaning it next time. A little wax won't do anything permanent. Exactly. The rounds will be more gooey feeling than anything else you'll handle. They get poo poo stuck to them in a quick and speedy hurry, so carrying them in your pocket is a nice way to send clumps of lint downrange. THey gunk up the action quickly as well, but they aren't going to BREAK anything. That round thingie at the end of the barrel is generally referred to as the muzzle and the specific area directly adjacent to the hole that makes up the hole/barrel junction at the muzzle end is called the crown. The crown is often more finely machined and finished than the rest of the muzzle. No, you aren't going to end up with an oval muzzle because you shot Thunderbolt ammo. It's cheap (but dirty and 1 out of every 100 or so will misfire) plinking ammo and that's that.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and shot about 100 rounds but then I had to go. My muzzle (thanks!) is still circular. About 8 rounds out of the 100 misfired though, that was pretty disappointing. Federal (all flavors, in fact) is my fave. Seriously, try a dab of everything you can get your hands on. Also what do you mean by "misfired?" Dented rims but no bang-bang? Another little tidbit, the amount of soot they produce seems a little horrible. I've heard federals are a lot cleaner, but prone to duds, but I guess I'll try them anyway.
