Are all the steel receiver 10/22s that shiny?

Man, I have shoot through rings on my BLR and I loving hate them. I really should get that remedied. Nothing like a chinweld for maximum accuracy.

Can anyone recommend me diopter or peep sights for my 10/22? The standard irons are ok but I'd like something fancier. I'm not into optics that much.

Are there any 10/22 books worth getting or is pretty much all the info available much easier on the internet? I was thinking of getting Customize the Ruger 10/22. I don't have a 10/22 yet but I was thinking of building my own from a bare receiver up.

Finally got my scoped 10/22 finished. Click here for the full 2013x527 image. Modifications: Boyd's EVO SS stock apple jack color Mueller APV scope Extended mag release RFT charging handle Swampfox modified trigger : 2.8 pound pull, no over travel or creep, auto release CPC modified bolt: Headspace ground to .0425 rim depth, firing pin staked, jeweled Bolt buffer Factory barrel reworked by Nemohunter RFT modified V-block RFT Bedding kit Took it to the range yesterday and got what I consider some good groups. Shooting SK STD+ with a mild wind blowing. Pretty happy with how it's shooting and will try again with less wind and adjusting torque on action screw. I just re-re-rebuilt my second 10/22 and I think I finally have it set up how I want, though I am going to do some more tuning on the action and possibly add a better scope as money allows, but for now I give you my new brush hunter.![]() It goes well with my first gun, which has countless ( 100+) dead hares to its credit. ![]() I can post the specs on both guns if anyone is interested. They are sweet shooters both and I've made fly kills at 50 yds with both.

The basic rework is $85 and includes reworked chamber and crown. Bore lapping is extra and I didn't choose that option. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and the gun shoots much tighter groups now. It looks just like a factory barrel and the only differences you can see if you inspect closely are the crown and the tightness of the chamber if you put a round inside. It'd be fun to take a stock looking 10/22 and make a sleeper rifle with one. What are the specs on the two guns you posted?

The black gun is my first 10/22, I posted about it WAAAAAY back three years ago when this thread started. It's got a hogue stock, green mountain running boar barrel, volquartsen hammer with jb welded disconnector ( awesome mod), some stainless hex action screw, bolt buffer, leupold VX1 2-7x28 rimfire in Leupold rings. Everything is hand polished inside and it is slick as glass. I have beat the hell out of it in the woods for the past three years and it has never let me down. I talked to the owner of Green Mountain barrels once and he told me he designed the barrel while he lived in the town I live in now, for hunting hares like 25+ years ago and thats what I use it for now. The second gun is one I bought about a week after the first and was pre riced when I got it. I didn't like most of it but I loved the barreled action so I tore it apart and it sat in boxes for years until last week. I did most of the action work I did on the first one, only thing it needs now is the jb welded disconnector. The barrel is a shilen match 16" 1-16 twist with a tight chamber and beautiful crown. Supposedly the gun was originally built by Mark White, guy who pretty much invented 10/22 ricing way back in the day and also coined the term "Ultimate 10/22" I just put the new nylon Hogue stock on it and it is a lot stiffer than the rubber model. The scope is just a cheap 4x33 BSA but it is fine for now. This gun will outshoot the first one all day long and weighs about the same.

So I just picked up a new 10/22 a bit over a week ago. I'm wondering, how much should I expect to pay for the simple 10rd rotary mags? The cheapest I could find them for was $11 on MidwayUSA's site (probably going to get only 2 of them). Also, are there any suggestions for cleaning supplies? So far, it seems to run Remington cheap Golden Bullet Value Packs just fine, along with some of my dad's 20y.o. Federal .22LR cartridges. I just picked up a Winchester value pack a few days ago, so I'll be checking that out next time. Some pics: ![]() ![]() Eventually thinking of having a gunsmith drill the stock so I can add sling swivels, and I'll probably throw on Tech-Sights at some point. No other modding plans for it in the near future aside from that. DeathByDoubleDip fucked around with this message at Sep 26, 2010 around 20:08 |

You can drill the stock yourself, there's nothing to it. Just drill a hole slightly smaller than the diameter you want then get some self threading sling studs from Butler Creek or Uncle Mikes. In a plastic stock you won't even need an insert.

Ah, so far i've chopped the nose (although at a much sharper angle) and taken some wood off the top and bottom of the comb and the butt. I'm trying to shift the bulk of the material up and back so i can get a decent cheek weld. Doesn't hurt that 10/22 stocks are about $10 new on ebay

You are killing the souuuuuul of the gun with awesome! If you've ever been to the 10/22 stock section of Rimfire Central, you can see some awesome stocks people have made out of the normal 10/22 stock. Some pretty much just use it as a short cut to having to inlet a chunk of wood to make it a stock. I too have modified a 10/22 stock: ![]() Forgive the lovely camera work. But I too basically just cut off the section of the stock for the barrel band, sanded it all smooth, stained it with Walnut stain, then lacquered it. lovely garage woodworking special. Since then, I've stripped the varnish, restained it with more walnut, put a few coats of BLO, then a quick spray coat of lacquer. It's much lighter in color, and no where near as shiny. I've also put an AR-15 A2 rear sling loop in the stock, so I can use a shooting sling on the rifle, much like for an M1 Garand or AR-15, since I've learned how to shoot with those slings. I also have tech sights on it. It's a really nice field gun. Be aware, the 10/22 stock doesn't like taking stain, even if you use a pre-stain treatment.

Two questions, the first of which has been driving me nuts for awhile now. About a year ago I pulled the trigger assembly apart, threw in a VQ hammer/sear, and cut an auto bolt release into it. I was having a few issues that seemed like they were related to the sear (sometimes it would fire 2 rounds when I pulled the trigger once) so a couple weeks ago I pulled it apart and put the factory components back in to see if I could get the problem to occur that way (the auto-bolt release mod has to stay now because I cut it into the original hardware). Anyway, when I threw it back together it would only fire one round and not charge the rifle for another shot. I'd have to manually rack the bolt in order to fire again. This happened after every shot. Any thoughts on what I could have done to cause this? I don't think it's the auto-bolt release because it worked more or less fine for a period of months until I pulled everything apart again. I've tried taking it all apart, cleaning it, and putting it back together again and it's still happening. Secondly, is there anyone here with a VQ adjustable sear that could explain to me how to properly tune it without putting the whole trigger assembly together, seeing how it feels, taking it all apart, twisting it 1/4 turn, putting it all together, etc? I threw out the instructions years ago and couple find any with google (if it's even possible to do without trial and error). Edit: put it all together again with the aftermarket components and got it back to the point it will fire without needing me to charge it. Although it still shot 2 bullets with 1 trigger pull one time in 50 shots so who knows.. pouge fucked around with this message at Oct 10, 2010 around 21:24 |

The bolt release and the bolt itself are kind of wonky on my 10/22. Is there anything I should check about this? The bolt seems to go back slowly if I do it manually and the release doesn't always work even if I'm pressing it in. Sylink fucked around with this message at Oct 19, 2010 around 02:55 |
