Same price as a chip and dip!

I just installed a Volquartsen hammer on my 10/22, but the bushings that came with the new hammer wouldn't fit on the hammer pin. They don't appear to be any different than the factory bushings (apart from the fit), so I just left on the old ones. Does this render my ~$40 hammer a waste, or does it not matter?

Metal. I bought it pretty recently, but apparently it had been sitting in my local gun shop since before they started using plastic.

Everything seems too be functioning fine, so I know it's not making a huge difference. I just want to make sure I'm getting the most out of that expensive little chunk of metal.

I have an Awl Punch, will that work?

I used the one on my Leatherman and it worked just fine. It's not nearly as easy as it would be with the sight adjustment tool, but I forgot to order one with my Tech Sights and I didn't feel like waiting for one in the mail just to adjust my sights.

To everyone who has chopped off the barrel band:

Do you need to bed the barrel after you remove the band, or can you just chop off the end of the stock and be done with it?

Also, QuarkMartial, how do you like the handguard?
