Because we can.

What is the general concensus about Tac-Star magazine extentions? I finally found one for my Benelli Nova, but don't know if the $35 average price I'm seeing is worth it.

I don't really understand the reason for a safety on a home/self defense shotgun (or the reason for whining about where the safety is located). I am no longer in the military, am not a cop and don't hunt with a shotgun, so if I am carrying it around loaded and chambered, there is a good reason for it and the safety would not be engaged. If I am not carrying it around and it is stored in a safe loaded and chambered, then the chance of a negligent discharge is, for all practical purposes, zero so the safety is not needed. If it is not loaded and chambered, the safety is superfluous anyway. In closing, who gives a gently caress?

Does anyone have experience with single shot shotguns? I already have pump action HD gun, but have an itch for a single shot. Right now I'm looking at H&R or Remington Spartan (Russian) single shots. Any experience? How is the quality? Which one is going to last forever? All responses are greatly appreciated.

Well the follower will stay right behind a shell, but it wont push it out, so you end up pumping away and watching the rear of the shell stay in the tube. Its like the spring is getting stuck somewhere farther back. Sometimes this happens, sometimes nothing. Hussar posted:Right now I'm looking at H&R or Remington Spartan (Russian) single shots. Cross-post from the photo thread, my M590SP:![]() The goddamn heat shield actually blew off while I was shooting a bunch of high-powered slugs. My friend welded it back together and I put it back on only to have to blow off the next time I went shooting. Anybody else ever have that happen? If so, what'd you replace it with? Also, how do you guys feel about the saddle-style sight mounts? Are they pretty fragile?

I actually have the perfect thing. It is a flash-hider looking thing that goes on the muzzle and has an integral rail. Then add an AR style front sight (or any other rail-mounted front sight). Not the best materials, but it would work. the best solution would be to have the barrel cut down 2 inches, then a heav7 flash hider permanently installed on the end, thick enough to be drilled and tapped for a short rail. If you want to try before you alter the shotgun permanently, send me a PM. I got this setup for my own before realizing that the factory extended magazine makes it so the front attachment won't fit. Like this but you can have it cheaper. http://cgi.ebay.com/SHOTGUN-BARREL-...1QQcmdZViewItem

I figured there were enough box threads for shotguns recently, so I won't do my own full thread. Here is a picture so far. I plan on do more to it.![]() It has a TacStar side saddle, Vang Comp magazine extention, Surefire forend light, and Wilderness sling. The Vang Comp magazine extension has the sling point on the side to work really well with the sling. It rests at a much better position. I plan on getting ghost ring sights and Vang Comp barrel porting.

In general, is a police trade-in shotgun a lot like a trade-in pistol: a worn finish with barely-used internals?

Pitch posted:In general, is a police trade-in shotgun a lot like a trade-in pistol: a worn finish with barely-used internals? Pretty much. For example, if it's been in one of those old-style cruiser mounts you'll see a lot of finish wear around the contact points of the mount (and wherever else it was routinely handled) but everywhere else should be nearly mint. Internals might be dirty. External problems rarely amount to more than a little cosmetic surface rust, which can easily be removed with some oil and fine steel wool. It may not look pretty, but who cares, it's a shotgun, they aren't supposed to look pretty. It's possible that some cop did something stupid with one, like dropped it into the ocean out or soaked it in the blood of an innocent black man, and then never cleaned it. Cops never clean shotguns ever. But that's okay since they use them even less than they do with their sidearms. Still, it's always a good idea to give the internals a once-over just to eliminate the rare case where they're hosed up. Used police Wingmasters, which if you're looking at used police guns are the most likely choice, are probably the best deal going in HD shotguns. Cheap, solid, and (with rare exceptions) drat near perfect inside. What more could you want?

TenementFunster posted:why didn't you get the three shot extension? I was a dumb rear end and screwed up. I figure the best way to fix the situation at this point is get an 870 with an 18 inch barrel, put the two shot extension on it, and get a 3 shot for the 20 inch barrel. Then I will put a collapsible stock on the 18, and a small forend. This way I will have the heavy 870 and the small, light 870. Not the most cost efficient was to resolve my mistake, but much more fun.

I've got an 870 on the way and I'm thinking of having it refinished. Where can I find a guide to totally disassembling it? I know how to field-strip one but ideally I'd like to have it broken down to bare pieces of metal-- the receiver, barrel, magazine tube, and trigger guard.

Follow the instructions here: http://www.tfrwiki.com/wiki/index.php/870 Then, when it's broken down as far as the guide goes, unscrew the stock from the receiver and pop out the magazine spring retainer from the tube(careful as the spring and follower fly out) and that should be it really.

There doesn't seem to be a way to remove the tube, it appears to be welded onto the receiver. In fact, there's a 870 receiver on gunbroker that shows the tube attached, so it doesn't look like it's meant to come off.
