IIRC the shotguns in Terminator 2 were non-firing replicas with aluminum receivers to make them easier to twirl-cock.

If you want a slicked up prettied norinco 1887 you can get a customized one from Coyote Cap, the gunsmith who helped the chinese develop the '87 replica. It might be a few hundred cheaper than the MSRP on those, depending on what you want done.

The guns in the film are indeed genuine Winchester shotguns and not a foreign copy such as the Norinco YL1887L (which wasn't released until 2002) or any of the Aldo Uberti copies (they weren't producing an 1887 shotgun at the time). The report of the shotgun is said to be two cannons firing at once." There was a plastic prop gun used too, though

1887s are glorious things and you all need one. That being said, I picked up a new thing from a newly single man in need of cash and room in his now-smaller gun safe: ![]() ![]() ![]() Every long-arm needs wood, gently caress plastic. The trigger-guard is plastic.

So I've been shooting my new 870 a lot and putting different ammo types into it. I shoots and cycles them all flawlessly. Shells by half a dozen different companies in multiple sizes. Then I get a 100 round box of Estate "Super Sport Competition Target Loads" for real cheap. Hadn't heard of the company and figured if nothing else I could use it as trash ammo when I take my friends shooting. Holy poo poo, this stuff is awful. I wasn't sure just how much of a quality difference there could be between shells but my god. I fired one shot and go to pump it: doesn't budge. I'm a pretty skinny guy but I was really working it. I put the safety on an kept trying, probably looking like a drat fool. Finally I managed to force the casing out. So I load another and shoot it. Same thing: won't eject. This happened a dozen times before I just gave up on them. The guy I went with got rid of his 12 gauge a while back so he brought a bunch of assorted ammo and we went to town with it. Shot every last drat shell. Tried the Estate once more and boom another jam. Gonna have to spend more money I guess.

Estate is more expensive than Federal here... They're owned by Federal (or their parent company) and supposedly the same shells as one of the Federal variants (Top Gun? who knows...) I only shoot Federals fwiw, and have a case of Estate here that I've had no issues with out of my Super Nova whilst dove and clay shooting.

I'd also like a stock that is sliiightly shorter than the default one, but not as short as a Hogue youth length. I'm apparently a mutant and have yet to strike a middle ground. E: Havlin posted:Comparison of action slide lengths: top 7-5/8”, bottom 6-1/2” Measure from top of threads to bottom of collar that holds the action bars. This measurement is critical to fit when ordering forearms or stock sets that include a forearm. For the most part, 20-year and older sporting shotguns and new tactical shotguns use the 7-5/8” slide. New sporting models have used the 6-1/2” slide for almost 20 years. There are exceptions, however. To be sure, measure! NOTE: Since 2006, most new 500®, 535® and 835® sporting shotguns with synthetic forearms may not use an action slide tube at all; rather, the pump handle will have two integral bars pinned into the handle itself. If you have one of these, you cannot use a forearm that was designed to go over an action slide tube without first buying the correct length tube and action slide tube nut. I have a Mossberg 500 with an 18.5" barrel that has a bead. I want to switch to ghost ring sights. Is there a barrel out there that comes with the front post pre-installed? If not how hard is the gunsmithing to install it? Is this something me and my farmer/welding master dad could figure out or should I find a gunsmith?
|
| # ? Aug 25, 2011 14:41 |

I guess it depends on whether the post is epoxied in place or if the barrel needs a hole tapped for it or not.

i know 590a1's have a heavy barrel, but can i simply put any old mossy 500 barrel in its place? the internet tells me both yes and no. Im considering swapping a 20" barrel with rifle sight for a 20" (or more) choked barrel with some type of sight at the end. it should line up with the ghost ring on the receiver.
