When I bought my C2 it had a years-old paintjob like that. Overspray on the tires, the soft top, underbody/steering/suspension, inside the a-pillar, and all of the door, hood, rear deck weatherstripping is completely painted over.

My point was that the muscle car market is already cooling, mostly because the nostalgia has moved on. Now the growing market is 80s and 90s Japanese stuff, because the nostalgia is there.

Technically "classic" cars can already be into the 90s but it seems that when people say "classic" they mean the 60s-70s stuff.

I've seen a 93 Supra and a jelly bean Escort with classic tags in recent months.

Reliability was kind of the one thing it had going for it. With a fluid change you could probably get half the Tauruses in a junkyard to start. Every transmission would be dead, of course.

Yes - there is even a Ford Taurus forum - https://www.taurusclub.com/

20+ years ago that was a fun group. It was nothing but near penniless Taurus owners in their teens and 20s trying to wring every ounce of anything out of their clapped out handme-downs or the only car on the lot they could get approved for.

I unapologetically love the Prowler and thought that was the best looking one I'd seen... until I got past the first image and got real sad. Nearly 6 figures invested into a $40k (when new) "Hot Rod" and it's still just got an ok V6 mated to a lazy automatic transmission that were both plucked clean out of the loving Concorde :downsgun:

It's the later engine at least, so it's quick but not fast. Of course, that's by 20 years ago standards.

Would a Pentastar fit in there? That'd be pretty fun, and probably an easier swap than a V8.

It does, and it's not. I've only done that once (at about 40,000 miles), and the heater lasted less than half the winter before blowing cold again. The dash and console have to come out, the intake manifold has to come off, AC lines evacuated/recharged, and actually getting the box containing the heater core off the dash itself is probably the biggest pain of the whole thing.

At one point I installed an inline filter in one of the heater lines, and had to clean the muck out every month or two. It obviously wasn't a fine enough mesh, though.

Is there a thread where y'all can opine (and point and laugh) at a old car I'm currently thinking of buying?

It is this:

A 1994 Buick Roadmaster. It has the LT1 V8. It has 200,000 km, and apparently has never seen winter (super important in Atlantic Canada, the rust death hell zone.) $3500.

It is located in the middle of nowhere, and a friend is down for taking a road trip out to see it. Only problem: this place is so rural all the garages have closed thanks to the double whammy of covid and poo poo oil prices, so getting a mechanic to inspect it will take some doing.

Looks exactly like my coworker's. He just got it from his grandfather (who I think is in his 80s or 90s). No LT1 though, it's whatever the normal 350 was at the time. Still great, though I guess the AC is a little fucky.
