Ia, Ia, Snuggly Ftaghn!

Hi, I'm late to the party but I just finished the whole thread and all the side links (so gonna make that lightbox) and can I join up with the etsy goons?

Thing is though, i don't make stuff. I sell books, vintage ephemera, game pieces and anything interesting that I find while I'm scouting for books. Can I still be on your team?

My store is clockwork junkyard

What use had they for tricks and cunning, living in the enemy's warren and paying his price?

I so need to start an etsy shop to offset my etsy habit.

My "custom" My Little Ponies are the best I have right now, and they're not that good/painted with acrylic paints, and hardly customed with the hair, etc. Would it be worth it to try a store with them, or, if I can actually find some friendly plastic and do something decent, would that be a decent chance?

I'm not that crafty with arts and crafts.

Alright so after much thought and debate I am going to be closing my shop down for a while. I'm actually going to be changing my product. Im unsure if I will keep the shop I have now or come up with a new name for it. I have been at a creative loss lately and that I managed to finally make a move for changing my product is amazing to me.

Anywho I will be making baked goods. Sweet delicious treats. I think it will sell better and it will also be less costly for me. Plus I love baking. Im working on my initial 8 or so cookies that will be the start of my little shop. I am for sure going to be making my famous apple butterchip cookies. But I'm having a hard time figuring out what else. So any ideas you guys have or think would sell well let me know and I will put it in with what im thinking.

Also just before the store opens I will be sending out sample batches. So if some of you are interested just pm me here or at the current shop on etsy. It will be a while before they ship out but they will be free so why not risk it! I will be making about 20 or 30 of them, and they will be first come first serve so just let me know.

Holy crap. I avoid SA for a few months and you guys totally run with this. I didn't even know we had tags (or even a team) but I've tagged my stuff with it now and mentioned the site/team in my announcement.

Anything I can do to help, count me in. I skimmed the thread (reading large swatches here and there) but I don't think I saw anything about promos or swaps or anything like that.

I'd be glad to set up a promo card swap, where everyone sets up a business card template with their store logo/info and submits it to be laid out 10-up on a page, so we can print out a sheet of other goon shops to include in our packages. I don't know if that made a lot of sense, but I think it'd be neat to include business cards for other goon shops in our orders. (Obviously you wouldn't have to include a card if someone sells the same thing as you.)

Setting up on a template for us to print just seems cheaper and easier than everyone mailing their business cards to one person and then having that person mail them out to everyone else etc etc.

You know OR if you guys didn't cover this already we can print out Etsy Good Squad business cards and just include those if that seems easier and less hassle.

Oh and I just put these together for those who like tiny trendy indie banners, PICK YOUR COLOR:

I'm debating prices and all that usual stuff as I just set up the shop. I sell photography prints that I have taken in various places, England, Wales, Portugal, Quebec to name the main ones.

Man... This thread has been quiet! Everyone getting ready for the holiday rush?

I posted a new item today, a hanging wall organizer, and it got 4 hearts within an hour. I'm thinking I should make more in assorted colours. I also posted a few Christmas items, but I'm not too worried about selling them on Etsy. They're going to an October fair and I'm fairly certain they'll sell there. Christmas items go really, really well for me at craft fairs.

So what's everyone else working on? Anything new?

I got completely sidetracked - should have opened up a few weeks ago really but my daughter asked me to make some crochet cakes for her to play with, so I did that rather than take photos of the stuff I have ready (any excuse, I hate taking photos). And then some friends saw them and I've ended up running up dozens...I have a few pre-orders already

Uh-oh, better whizz up another batch Quite a few folks want them for xmas stockings so I'm making most of them kid-safe, but if I get chance I want to make some more "adult" ones with lots of sparkly beads and so on. Made some jam tarts last night...I have a few ideas kicking around my head for other cakes too.

So I'm getting my etching mojo working again, and soon I'll have a few things put together and on my Etsy Site. there's nothing there right now, but soon, soon! I just have to buy a new printer, as the one I have now is useless. I spent 4 hours yesterday trying to get the toner to transfer properly, and the whole problem is a crappy old laser printer.

If you didn't catch my post in the GBS thread, I'll be offering etched brass goodies - I'm going to offer keychains, bookmarks, and other neat things. Here's a preview:

That's two bookmarks, before etching. They'll be 1.5" by 6" - although I think I may want to shorten them to 5". They still need to be etched, painted, lacquered, drilled, and the chain and fob attached. Wee!

Edit: All done! Got 2 CogMarks up in my shop so far, with more stuff to come. pics:

Also, sent off a convo to Mrs. Orgasmo on Etsy!

So I need some help with packaging - Should I even worry about it? I want to keep shipping costs low. I might just design a nice tag (a smaller version of the shop header I'm working on, I guess) and include it in the envelope.

A three-legged woman is better than a headless man.

That sounds fine.

I buy colorful tissue paper at the dollar store, wrap the item in the tissue paper, use a round sticker that I bought from Promosinasnap to secure the tissue paper, tuck a business card into the fold of the paper and then put it in a bubble envelope. It's simple, easy, cheap and doesn't add to the cost of mailing, but I've received a lot of comments from customers on their packages. I guess the tissue paper wrapping makes it a little like receiving a present in the mail.

Rathina
Jan 8, 2001

I've taken to making my own bubble mailers. I've found its so much cheaper to just buy manilla envelopes and a huge roll of bubble wrap and just cut to the size I need to wrap around a switch plate, it takes a little extra time, but it really helps me to keep my shipping costs low to my customers. I noticed to it was cheaper to ship my items to, as using the premade padded envelopes seemed to add an extra ounce.

As for packaging on the inside? I get ziplock poly bags from Michaels that are 4 x 6" and its like $3 for 100 of them, and inside goes the switch plate, a business card, a little 1"x1" ziploc with the screws and thats it. Totally have some extra room to add in business cards for others, so I'd like to participate in the business card layout thingy.

I don't know how well this works for others, but for my return address lables, and my business cards, each one features one of my switch plates. I think I might do the colorful tissue paper thing, because I think it would really dress it up.

Hello everyone,
I've posted as Matrim here before. I'm trying to get everything on the same name but I have to wait until this one is 7 months old to switch everything over. I was just checking in to see how everything was going. I recently moved so everything is up in the air here. All of my etsy listing expired so I'm renewing them one by one. Now I just have to go through and make sure everything is metric and standard, and tagged Goon of course.

In the past month, I've been burned several times by USPS, and items that were supposed to take ~5 business days took over 2 weeks to get to my house, all from within the continental United States....and one of these places was across loving town, a 20 minute drive. The representative I spoke to told me that there was no way to track the packs, even with the tracking number. I was so pissed that I've refused to do any business with those sellers since, since they only ship USPS....and I don't want any ticked customers because the packs got lost.

So I have been looking at all of these soaps and scrubs and lotions on Etsy and drooling, and what I am wondering is if anyone here has any experience with buying handmade shampoos. Any good places? I ask specifically because I have dandruff, and dandruff shampoos in general seem to have a tendency to strip the dye out of hair. Basically I have bad luck with hair and it is horrible. I have been trying out vinegar as an anti-dandruff method, but I'd still feel a lot safer with an actual anti-dandruff shampoo. I have done some poking about, but I might feel better about buying something if a goon can vouch for it. I'd hate to spend ten bucks on a bar of shampoo that turns out to not be very effective on my scalp.

Any Etsy folks who can point me in the right direction? Or should I stick with the commercial stuff?
