Well I love crafts, but never do them as I can never figure out what to do with all the things I make. So I've gone ahead and opened up my own Etsy shop, hopefully it works out, then I can actually start doing crafts again haha.

Yah, I am totally enjoying Etsy, I've gotten 6 sales so far since signing up ( http://rathina.etsy.com )It does take a lot of work though to promote yourself though I am starting to realize. And its also addicting, I've spent so much time on Etsy in the past 3 weeks I've totally neglected all my other usual websites like myspace or celebrity gossip pages haha

Alright, I just happened to be looking around in Treasury West when I saw the goon treasury!! So I'm totally jazzed that we do have our own etsy Goon Squad now.

I'm totally in for helping out in getting it off the ground. I do have webhosting that we can use if we need it for like a blog or webpage or something.

Also for some reason I screwed up and was using 'goon team' instead of 'team goon' as my tags and search results for both come up with the same things, so I'm not going to worry about changing the ones I did, but any new ones I do I'll do the 'team goon' on it.

Looks pretty good so far. I know most teams take advantage of the Etsy Mini's which is probably what your planning on doing for shops section. The front page also could be some sort of blog or something, and also looks like a lot of empty space, could be dressed up with an etsy mini down the side or something, but one of all your favorite so that everyone's items could be included. I know the way I have my website/blog ( http://www.rathina.com )set up probably could be easily be adapted to be used as some sort of team thing.

The website looks great! Are the minis that are posted a snapshot in time or will they update as our shops update?

The mini's however will always show your featured items first, so if you have 4 items featured, it will show only those 4, if you have 3 items featured, it will show those 3 plus whatever your most recently updated item was..thus if if you use no featured items, then it just lists the most recently updated items.

So anything new going on with the website at all? Or any projects or anything going on? It would be nice if we could get organised, perhaps get more goons in on this. Once we get everything organised, we could perhaps make a thread in SA-Mart or buy banners or something. At least we should have a new thread started that at least has the goon squad team stuff. I don't mind doing any of these things, but I just don't want to overstep anyone if someone else wants to be in charge of things.

I did some work messing around with a website for our team you can see it here in its temporary location: http://www.caken.com it's pretty close to being finished, if you guys like it we can use it, and figure out what domain name to buy to go with it.

I figure a blog would be a good thing, as every week we could "feature" a different goon's shop, and also post announcements of treasuries whenever we happen to get them. I don't know at this point if a seperate forum is needed as it seems there is just a handful of us, but if we get really huge, we should have a different forum.

Once we get the webpage done, that's when we should start the new Etsy thread that lists a bit about what etsy is, along with links to shops / and to the website, and a request if people want to join.

Well the idea is that I want to start a new thread with all the information, including the website. The only thing stopping me is that I don't want to step on other peoples toes. I designed one website, dominoes designed another. I went to go register etsygoonsquad.com but dominoes beat me haha. I know I'm a little late, but heres what I know.

When the thread is posted, you need to reply asap, like you already need to have what you want as your sale in your clipboard. I know the one time I did it, when I clicked reply there was only 1 reply on the thread, I pasted my item, hit the button, and when it refreshed there were 8 pages, and I was at the top of the 3rd page. Within the first 2 minutes there are like 200 replys.

So if you can sit around waiting for that exact second it pops up, so you can be on one of the first few pages, thats probably the best it would get.

like I said, when I did it, I was at the top of page 3, offered free shipping on any order, and no sales. Though this was back when I only had about 20 or so items in my shop...now I have like 90.. =/

Man, I am so mad, this person started copying what I do, using all the same fabrics and then undercutting my prices. I emailed Etsy, but they said I either need to work it out with the seller, or fill out a bunch of paperwork. So I sent them a message telling them to remove all the switch plates that copy my switch plates, will see what they say, otherwise they will feel my internet wrath. UGH.

Rathina

So I love how Etsy says first I need to communicate with the seller. So I sent them a convo, they ignored it, listed more copied items ( http://3zart.etsy.com ) is the offender and so I sent them another message saying

Obviously you ignored my first message, becuase you've listed even more after I sent my first message. Etsy does not tolerate people who copy in the artist community. It is a shame that you can't come up with your own ideas, and you must copy others and then undercut them. Just so you are aware, your shop will probably either get deleted or your items removed, if you continue to insist on copying my stuff.

So then now I get an email from Etsy telling me to stop harassing them. loving pathetic. I'm going to fill out all there stupid paperwork and mail it off Monday, will it work? I dunno anyone can put fabric on a switch plate, but to copy my designs and patterns, and in some places my actual listings?

I just wish there was something else I could do to them. I'm so pissed.

Well I had an idea with my switch plates for the holiday's would be holiday themed switch plates. I figure this would be really only good for christmas/thanksgiving. They would make great decorations.

The only problem is, I have no idea how much I should do that are holiday themed. Most people never think to switch out a switch plate, let alone put one up just for the holiday's I would think.

I think I've gotten about half dozen different holiday fabrics (one or two I think are currently listed right now).

My mother in law also said she wants to be more involved in my etsy thing as a way to bond, so she is going to start sewing placemats that we will sell (all the left over scraps I get for switch plate use hehe).

So I figure we might try a to do something like a free matching switch plate with purchase of four placemats..but also even though chistmas is like 5 months away, we have so many things going on with buying a new home, that I'm sure we only would be able to get 2-3 sets of placemats done.

You know what - I don't mind, and this is why:

Any publicity is good publicity, if your name is out there, for better or worst, it's a good thing.
This site got me over 1,500 views.

I thought that was absoulutly hilarious. One because she is obviously lying about getting 1,500 views, as seen from the low view counts in her shop. The second, is that 'any publicity is good publicity' doesnt work if you don't have anything people want to buy. This counts as bashing too right guys? LOL

Is there still interest in creating a new thread?

I know we need a new thread, I just am not sure where....This thread stays on top pretty well in this forum..but I'm wondering if we should branch out and create the new thread in GBS or something. Though if we keep it in DIY, probably should do a new thread too so we can keep the first post updated. I just have not really had time to sit down and write a "gbs worthy" thread. I think putting in GBS would bring a lot of traffic...but then also a lot of 'off topic' stuff I guess. I'm really not so sure.

My ideas so far would sort of like calling it the Etsy Mega Thread. The first post needs to have information about what Etsy is, and also a link to the website (which I've been able to keep uptodate very easily) and how to join/instructions for tagging, and anything else I might have forgotten.

As far as the webpage goes, I've been adding everyone who posts in here to both the side bar and the shops link. As for the posts for the main page on the goonsquad website, I mostly have just posted when there are treasuries, but if any one else has any ideas for posts, or would like posting abilitys I can create accounts for that too.

If you want to go ahead and do the new thread, thats fine, or if anyone has any other ideas or anything, lets discuss them!

Looks good, probably should mention a listing stays up for 4 months, and also the website for the goons. I can go ahead and put some more information on the website under the join section. Also you can throw up my name as the person to talk to to get added to the goon website. And also throw up whoever elses name is thats incharge of adding the members to the team page on etsy.

For the handmade section, perhaps talk a bit more of the things you can find..though the list of goon shops seems to sum up many things, but probably at least add that there are many things that make great cheap gifts.

Also, I'm mentioning this now, because I'll probably end up forgetting when the time comes, but whenever the secret santa thing comes out, probably should talk to whoever is head of it to make sure to mention all the goon shops :)

Also where it mentions the goon team, probably also mention something like how there are many different teams, and that the goon team consists of members from the forums.

if I think of anything else I'll add another post.

Also, I'm not sure, but perhaps we should also list goon names next to shop names, because I think most people are not using the same names. And I think I remember a few people in the thread saying if a goon buys something from them to make sure you tell them your a goon..and so mention that somewhere perhaps, actually thats probably a good idea to be like "Make sure if your buying from a goon shop you let them know your a goon, so they can figure out how you found their stuff..and some shops may even throw in a little extra" or something like that.

I'm going to go through now and set up a google pay system, as I to forgot most goons hate paypal LOL

I've taken to making my own bubble mailers. I've found its so much cheaper to just buy manilla envelopes and a huge roll of bubble wrap and just cut to the size I need to wrap around a switch plate, it takes a little extra time, but it really helps me to keep my shipping costs low to my customers. I noticed to it was cheaper to ship my items to, as using the premade padded envelopes seemed to add an extra ounce.

As for packaging on the inside? I get ziplock poly bags from Michaels that are 4 x 6" and its like $3 for 100 of them, and inside goes the switch plate, a business card, a little 1"x1" ziploc with the screws and thats it. Totally have some extra room to add in business cards for others, so I'd like to participate in the business card layout thingy.

I don't know how well this works for others, but for my return address lables, and my business cards, each one features one of my switch plates. I think I might do the colorful tissue paper thing, because I think it would really dress it up.

I also would like to do more with the website, I'm just not sure what all to do, if anyone else wants posting capibilities I can go ahead and make them. I've been tempted to make a forum on the site, but I'm not sure if its something we need, or if the threads we have serve the "communication/organization" purpose.

I'm also really unaware of who all is "Oh I'm a goon, so I'm listed on the goon site" or "This etsy goon squad sounds really neat, I want be involved". Not that there is a problem with the first group (where I think the majority are) but I know the 2nd group needs a few dedicated people for running it.

So perhaps we can figure out some team jobs/leaders. Right now I'm not even sure who the "leader" is, I know I've been handing the website (and slacking sometimes) and someone else handles the "etsy" side of the goon squad. Would be nice to have a person or two dedicated to getting treasuries.

I'm really new to all of this kind of stuff, so mostly what I've been doing is trial and error. The new thread seems to have gained a lot of intrest, and this old thread is still getting vistors, so I'm wondering if the DIY thread would be more for discussion/organization, and the gbs thread be more of an advertising/look at this cool thing thread. I'm thinking more buyers are going to come from GBS, while more sellers are going to come from DIY. Right now, I just have each thread bookmarked and check both daily.

One problem though I think with two threads, is not everyone knows both threads exist I think. I have the old one linked in the first post of the GBS thread, but unless you read through this thread, theres no real indication that there is another thread somewhere else except for a post or two I made a few pages back.
