Criticker is a website where you rate movies, and the system uses your ratings to come up with recommendations for you. It's also a great way to keep track of what you and your friends have seen, and it's just fun to browse around in. The Predicted Score Indicators are surprisingly accurate. I'd say about 95% of the time, the PSI is within 2-3 points of what my actual rating is.

We lost the old thread to the Archives, and who knows when those are coming back. Anyway, I think we had a bunch of people on the old list who either don't post here anymore or don't use Criticker anymore. So it's probably best to start fresh anyway. Reply to this thread with your Criticker username if you want to be included on the list.

I'm in there as PeaceAnarchy.

Also, for those who like to work through lists, the Dec 2006 (as theyshootpic) and Dec 2007 (as theyshoot07) lists from They Shoot Pictures, Don't They are up, and someone else put up the top 250 from this decade as TSP250. Like any top lists they're far from perfect but they're a fun way to discover films that you otherwise wouldn't have heard of.

Does anyone else find it difficult to rate movies on a 100 point system? I find myself being very inconsistant, especially if it's been a few days since I last rated. It's hard to mentally recall your own standards. I've had to go back and re-rate many movies when I see how off I was.

And do you guys view it as a straight scale, or more of a school grading system? Right now I'm viewing it like a school grading system - A, B, C, D, and F. Though that makes anything under 50 the worst of the worst, making the bottom half of the scale pretty unused. I'm considering going back and shifting my ratings, putting the tip of the bell shaped curve around the 50 mark, rather than the 75 mark.

I settled in on rating it based on how glad I am I've seen it, with points thrown in if I have watched/plan to watch it again.

I pretty much have just rated the movies I have seen somewhat recently. I do have problems rating also and I never feel like they are truly accurate. So yeah, I am pretty much always tweaking them, but oh well.

I've been using Flixster for about a year and a half but the overall stupidity of its userbase (there are plenty of exceptions, but there's way too much teen crap) and how many stupid notification e-mails it sends are turning me off it. The accuracy of this recommendation system is making me jump ship.

I have a question. I have an old Criticker account with outdated rankings, so I decided to start a new one. I noticed the Facebook application, so I sign in under my new Criticker account and add the application. But it adds my old account, and I can't figure out how to get it to put the rankings up from my new account instead.

Also FitFortDanga you've seen way too many movies. Do you rent or just blind buy that stuff?

I don't wanna poo poo up this thread but people around here still use Netflix right? I think the old Netflix thread is in the archives. I don't always agree with the tastes in movies some of you guys have but it'd be nice to get notes/reviews on movies that aren't my lovely ones.

DVicknabb is the name.

I find that it's very hard to rate movies to an exact number between 1-100, I think I'll probably start out doing intervals of 5 and then later on I'll adjust up and down little bits. Hell, I'm finding it difficult to even put some movies on a certain number if I haven't seen them fairly recently.
