Nothing new here, though I did sell my SKS to Drakerider, and bought a repro scope mount for my SVT-40. It looks so awesome now. I can't wait to get it to the range. I hope you enjoy your package, Drake.

I don't suppose anyone has an 8mm k98k they are looking to sell? Was at the war museum recently and it's now on The List. Tiger tank is also on the list as soon as I can figure out the heist logistics; won't fit in the Volvo.

I was totally thinking stripper clip. My uncle is selling his 7mm rem mag (browning a-bolt, left handed with a bushnell 3-9 scope) with some ammo for $500 if anyone is interested. I can get pics if u need. It's a typical hunting rifle, shot maybe 100 times and has taken a few moose and deer. Don't worry he's not a left handed weirdo, just left eye dominant.

I saw the post and chose not to respond because stuff. I wondered the same thing and kinda marked it up as a paradigm shift in politics as the NDP became more mainstream and more focused on urban rather rural. I am most likely wrong. I'm still disappointed in Mulclair's decision to draw a hardline on gun control. It doesn't affect a lot of gun owners who vote NDP so they won't see a negative impact but it's just disappointing all the same.

mikerock posted:I don't get it at all. Working class people are gun people. Working class people are also NDP. Where is the disconnect? Where did the NDP to Conservative shift come from? Despite the CGN groupthink, the NDP+guns combination is far from rare. There's also a large number of Conservative+"Hunting guns only!" people. I generally vote NDP* and my brother is starting to become pretty involved in the party, and we've spent many nights bitching about exactly this. In fact, we talked about it today via text message. For a little extra context, our hometown's riding is Cypress Hills-Grasslands in southwestern SK, and I'm in Medicine Hat now. I'm going to talk about the federal NDP here, because neither the SK nor AB provincial NDP are even trying anymore. The problem is that they've done a spectacularly good job at shaving off supporters out here in as many ways as they possibly can. Their strong pro-wheat board stance gets them some support but cuts off the fence sitters who think there needs to be a safety net for small operations, but maybe the wheat board is an anachronism. CBC posted:As for the Canadian Wheat Board, wheat growers gave the board 60 per cent support in a vote earlier this week, following a promise by the federal government to dismantle it. Barley growers voted 51 per cent in favour of maintaining the board's monopoly. Some 55 per cent of wheat growers and 47 per cent of barley growers voted in the plebiscite. The same thing goes for the gun registry. There are a few people who like it, lots who are lukewarm or don't think it's really necessary, and a few who think the government wants to take away anything that uses gunpowder and make them hunt gophers with a slingshot. Add to that candidates who are inexperienced or just plain low effort (Perrier, I'm looking at you) and you have a recipe for a rout. Not because of Conservative supporters but because the Conservatives tended to hit just enough of the right points while not being totally offensive on others. Why is this happening, though? The only reason I can come up with is that the NDP has gotten lazy. Rather than look at the modern reality of farming, they plod along with the wheat board. My generation is starting to take over their family farms, and quite a few of them have degrees that have taught them how to market their own crops. That doesn't even include farmers who have already dabbled in chickpeas, lentils, etc. and learned as they went. Few are willing to go without some sort of safety net, but for a lot of them the wheat board just isn't doing it any more. A similar thing has happened with gun control. It's marketed as a magic cure-all for spousal abuse, northern crime, inner-city violence, and mental health issues. Rather than push hard for funding for shelters, support groups, social programs, and changing public perception of mental health issues they've taken the easy way out. This both alienates the rural voters and pisses off some others by drawing attention away from the issues that it's supposed to be fixing. There was a feeling out here that the Liberals had abandoned this part of the country to focus on pandering to Ontario. With the way the NDP is heading, more and more people are starting to feel like they're doing the same thing, but with Quebec instead. *This last AB election was an anomaly. The PCs were genuinely the best party in my riding, so they got my vote. Edit: quaint bucket posted:It doesn't affect a lot of gun owners who vote NDP so they won't see a negative impact aehiilrs fucked around with this message at May 12, 2012 around 06:54 |

I would not be surprised in the slightest if Quebec swings back to the Bloc (or that similar sounding party I forget the name of) next election.. The CPC has given up on trying there anymore. "You're all a bunch of fickle mushheads!" - "Diamond" Joe Quimby
