Same here, our standard day is 8 hours and we dont get paid overtime, but the system is set up with only the main office in mind (one that operates on a completely different business model, and does pay overtime) so we have to slightly reduce all our figures to fit this model, eg. if I did 4 hours on project A and 4 on project B, I have to book 3+3/4 hours to each. brc64 posted:Dot matrix printers make me want to slam my head through the drywall. One of our clients just bought a new one. I didn't even know you could still buy them! Of course, now they're complaining because their printouts aren't lining up on their fancy pre-printed paper. There are some things that a modern fast dot matrix printer just cannot be beaten for, especially when pre printer paper is involved. Cheque printing is a good example. Only problem is, if you have a proper setup, one that actually needs dot matrix, you literally* need ear protection when working with the bastard things. * Yes, I do know what "literally" actually means. bartkusa posted:Finally, if you get the chance to compromise and bargain, look for easy concessions to make. Cyberlink is currently pissing me off. I decided to brave the suck tornado that us PC BluRay and got a drive that came with PowerDVD 8. What a pile of crap. A third of my discs have major decoding errors. None of the settings besides Region stick, and it's full of advertising for the latest version, PowerDVD 10 Ultra 3D Mark II It seems PowerDVD 8 has a number if known issues. Were they ever patched? Sure! In PowerDVD 9. Well, the upgrade link (i.e. half the window) in the settings dialog is advertising heavy discounts... $45, rather than $100 for a competitor's product. PowerDVD Ultra 3D Mark II it is, then. Click in-app advertisement, complete transaction while unavoidably giving them the right to know every movie I watch and sell that list plus my contact info to everyone ever, get the digital download, nuke PowerDVD 8, and run the installer. Balls. Roll back with System Restore, try again. Okay... their in-app advertising sent me to the upgrade for the wrong edition of the app. I'll send a customer support ticket and ask for a new installer link. ![]() It's been two days with no reply. I think it's time for a chargeback and a consumer protection complaint or two.

How do some companies stay in business? I had to order some parts for my car. The only place in the country that can get them never answers the phone, takes two or three weeks to reply to a simple email, and gives only the most terse yes/no response possible. When I finally managed to convince them I actually wanted to give them my money they directed me to a dodgy-looking third-party web shop, that doesn't even place an order, it just creates an invoice that I have to print out and fax! It's loving 2011, I haven't seen a fax machine in a decade. And if you're going to run an online shop try not making it look like a bad phishing site from 1998. Good things? I can do that too. My MS Natural Keyboard 4000 is showing serious wear and tear from heavy use. I'm even wearing a hole through the s key slowly but surely. I sent Microsoft support an e-mail saying it was getting well-loved and asking if I could buy a set of replacement keys. They just sent me a new keyboard and a discount code to their online store.

Our other office *heard* they were having problems with sound in our video conference system to our Germany office. They also *heard* we were having problems connecting to the German office. The VP of IT emails every location and requests we do a test between all 3 locations sometime tomorrow (this was yesterday). The Germans are 5-6 hours ahead of us, so we typically hear from them about 3:00AM our time. The fucker over there emails us all at 7:18AM scheduling a 7:30AM test. I just got up and won't be to our office for another half hour, fucker! To make it worse, he turns off their system when nobody is in the room. Everyone else leaves it on and set to auto-answer so that dumbass execs can use it. Speaking of dumbass execs, they don't know how to use the address book in the system, so that's why they couldn't connect. The last 5 contacts used are kept on the main screen, after that you have to use the address book, or type in the phone number/ip manually.

It's only ever happened with huge companies, and only on select projects. I have no idea how common the practice actually is.
