I work for government agency which must remain anonymous(post office) every district gets their own webserver/database, some use them, some ignore them completely most apps get made with no indexes / poor portability in thier code / poor maintability Its nice cuz it makes me look worth 10 times more than I realy am

I treat anything related to IT like quantum mechanics As soon as any person observes the data it instantly becomes useless, and somehow I get paid money to do the job because of "Retrocausality"

ruro posted:Working in networking. I am so sick of the network being blamed for everything and having to prove it's not our god drat network. Seriously we spend ridiculous amounts of money on a fully redundant over-speced network and every tom dick and harry thinks that the network is at fault when their poo poo application/server/workstation doesn't get decent throughput. I'm this close to have a default snide response of "yes, it must be the fully redundant switches that cost 50 times more than your server". Yes, your lovely 5 year old dell server that hasn't been rebooted in 2 years is clearly not the problem, and it has to be our 6500's. Yes clearly having to work with lovely 5 year old servers that must support thousands of users is better than working in networking and getting to use top of the line equipment (im that guy, the guy that needs to work with lovely 5 year old servers)

I use a hotmail account There is even a field in the mail header that says which IP the mail originated, and microsoft is too dumb to check if mail is coming from their own servers The result: hotmail spam from everywhere

While on the topic of Windows taking up space like a fat man on a plane, I find shadow copy service is what actually eats up alot, you can use vssadmin to limit the amount, but you wont be able to have as many restore points

Clearly this code in a completely different project in a complete different part of the website is directly coupled to whatever bullshit you are working on at the moment and must be rewritten at whim

Trying to figure out if happiness is worth more than money I basically worked a crappy job for years, then got a real job at 50k for programming. I get to do pretty much what I want and dont really have any boss except the project manager. I know if I try to ask for a better salary I'll most likely get shot down, but on the other hand I probably have done enough work to be worth at least some kind of bonus. I worked there for almost a year, I don't know what the actual point you ask for the bonus is? Is it at the end of the project, the end the year? Whenever you get asked to do more crap than usual?
