Oh thank god. .22WMR is a pretty neat caliber. hedgiejugglr's first(?) gun was a Marlin in .22WMR and we shot the hell out of it. I've actually been fairly impressed with its ballistic performance out of a rifle barrel, as well as its terminal effectiveness (from side-by-side comparisons that we did between .22LR, .22WMR and a few pistol calibers). That said, it costs almost as much as real pistol ammo, so it gets hard to justify pretty quickly. It was more fun back when CCI was $4.50/50.

bunnielab posted:I think I have shot maybe 5 rounds of the stuff, or was this a joke? No, I was just curious if a relatively local goon (such as yourself, for instance) had a firearm chambered for it. I won a box at the BRGC meeting on Wednesday, and since I don't own anything in that caliber, it isn't much use unless I find someone that could help shoot it. Oh well, maybe I'll save it and bring it to the next mid-atlantic goon shoot or something.

bunnielab posted:Ah, nope, sorry. Sounds like the range I used to be a member of. They shut down the range for two months to rebuild it because some dumbass lobbed a round over the berm, didn't credit anyone's membership with extra time or anything. They then hired a bunch of old farts as range officers, they basically stare over your shoulder (and I mean that literally) the whole time you shoot and harass you non-stop if you pull anything out of your case that looks loosely like an AR or AK. Along with the new range officers came a number of inane rule changes, such as only being allowed to have one gun out at a time, having to keep the others cased, not being allowed to wear your carry weapon onto the range, and so forth. After they did all of this to inconvenience the members, they then proceeded to increase the yearly membership fee from $250 to $450. I went there, got my pass and paperwork done, headed to the range with my buddy, and as soon as they saw my AK they insisted my paperwork wasn't right. After half an hour of walking back to the clubhouse and going back and forth with the office people there and being told it was fine, I got back and the same, unchanged paperwork was magically fine for the range officers, too. Then, while I was trying to shoot my Yugo underfolder out there, they insisted it was too short to be used on the range (standard underfolder), so I got my crappy quasi-RPK out and spent a while emptying a 75 round drum from it, which visibly annoyed them and gave me some satisfaction. That experience pissed me off to no end, so now me and my friend just go to Knob Creek. I have to drive an hour instead of 30 minutes now, but it's worth it to avoid all the crap they put you through at my original one. That range used to be so excellent, went out to 300 meters and you could spend an entire summer's day there and never see a soul... Also, to keep with the Tacticlol theme, here's a double barreled shotgun complete with tactical rails and polymer stock. I guess it would work, but it's just...wrong, somehow. http://www.stoegerindustries.com/fi...ble_defense.php

quote:Instinct-targeting, combined with firing multiple rounds, will turn a 9mm or even smaller caliber weapon into a guaranteed stopper. Your goal should be to develop a double-tap, in which you hit the spine with both rounds, then a single round to the head of the then-falling gorg, in which you are microtargeting his center upper teeth. That will get you the brainstem. Most "Fraggle Rock" technique shooters shoot for the spot between the eyes, but if you hit it, you get the outer brain, and your only damage might be that the gorg won't be able to recite poetry to you as you have destroyed his speech center. You want to destroy the comm-center of the brain, the brainstem, with your head shot. The other danger of a high head shot is that if you hit the upper skull, you risk no penetration to the brain at all, even with a .45! If the angle isn't right, your round may just deflect off the skull. By shooting the mouth, you avoid all that. It's an opening waiting for your round, sort of like Luke Skywalker when he destroyed the Death Star battle station in Star Wars 4. I Like how this guy basically says that the average person can shrug off a gunshot wound to the upper brain-case.

He also fails to account for when you're being attacked by a poet. Shooting them there and destroying their ability to recite poetry would be the most brutal counterattack possible.
