I've heard that at the very start of Vietnam, there was similar unfair negative sentiment towards the M1911A1, since a lot of them being issued were WWII surplus already in bad shape. How prevalent was that really? All the 'Nam vets I've met had nothing but good things to say about the 1911. Then again, they were all draftees and thus came in a bit later.

Uh. If you're going to spend that much money on a magazine it better be ready for anything, not just trips to the range.

I think there was a big difference between what actual soldiers got and what, for example, the National Guard got. My uncle was in the Kentucky National Guard for 69-73 or so and he's mentioned more than once that only about half their pistols even worked, and those that did were so badly shot out that they were basically minute of barn accurate.

When my dad was assigned to the 2ID back in 1990 as a TACP he said they all had 1911s that were WWII vintage. The army guys kept trying to steal the Air Force's M9's and radios.

My God this looks like something that came out of the prop department for one of the Blade movies. They just need to make it spring loaded and capable of firing each of the spikes at your vampire foes.

Quick, someone engineer up some kind of ridiculously over complicated gas piston assembly to attach to the gas block and the back of that thing so when you fire it slams forward impaling whoever's at the receiving end!

It needs to be power-extended, spin, then the... uhm, prongs, I guess, rotate outwards whilst still impaled. Death Blossom, baby. (That, or Fruit Fucker.)

I've gotten a chance to play with one of those, and the ugly stock, from what I understand, is there so you can rotate it sideways, tuck it into the crook of your elbow, and still use it while opening doors or cuffing suspects or whatever.
