The threads are on some sort of sleeve that's wider than the barrel, and there appears to be some sort of other-colored (possibly protective) part before the barrel meets up with it. The front site is also still on it if you look, leading me to believe [read: hope] that this is actually similar in design to this thing.

Seriously what the gently caress is going on in that picture. Couldn't he just have threaded the barrel like a normal person? Why feel the need to spot-weld all that sprinkler poo poo from home depot on there? Why is there a 3 dollar laser pointer attatched to a 1500+ dollar gun? WHY WHY WHY?

Just waiting for Cyrano to show up and declare from the shape of the safety or something that it's an extremely rare variant and the sideplate was personally machined by the Oberndorf factory's new third-shift supervisor's second cousin's virgin bride on their wedding night of 12 April 1941 or something.

It looks like the ACU stuff was blow-dryed on, too boot. The material looks all wavy. Why in the hell would anyone do something like that to any gun, much less an actual Luger?

It definitely is not. ARWEN's are awesome, and having an EOTech on one makes perfect sense - with a gas mask and face shield on, you can't get a proper cheekweld to use normal sights. I'm assuming that's a laser mounted on it too - also a good idea, for the same reason. Plus there's a deterrent factor in a crowd control situation.

infrared35 posted:Is this Tacticlol? Or Tactifudd? Tacticlol would require a synthetic body with an AR collapsible stock and bipod. Tactifudd has been posted already. Cut down the wooden stock and drill/tap a scope right on top of the action, so you insert an 8 round clip and then mount the scope. 3 bullets to zero the scope, 5 to hunt. Also he would be wearing real-tree camo, not regular camo.

If you're a member of a riot squad, with other officers with batons, shields and actual firearms backing you up, the laser is a good idea with a certain deterrant factor in some cases. If you want to use it as a private individual for the deterrant, that's retarded.

Why do they even dress up like that anymore? When was the last time anyone in North America/Canada even seriously battled the cops with bricks and such? Aren't your "riots" all about overturning cars and then running away? I bet they just like to feel all Robocop for a day- can't beat those harmless protesters in a regular uniform, that would look uncool.

Bottle/rock/etc chuckers show up at places like G8, Republican National Convention, etc. There's a difference between the "let's gently caress poo poo up" riots, where looting and flipping cars is the thing, and "let's protest this thing that is going on" riots, which is where the riot gear comes in handy.

osoiman posted:Dunno if this was posted already: As has already been pointed out, it COULD be non-destructive. The two things I'm most worried about if it is are the white stripe around the barrel (looks like tape but could be something else) and the way that the front sight is getting metal to metal contact with the washer that's holding the suppressor on there. I'd be amazed if it's not beating the poo poo out of the finish if it's a detachable. If it's not detachable, or that crap is welded onto the barrel as this guy's home brew quick-detach tactical idea or something, well, you don't really need me to voice my opinion on that, do you? Also, even if it is non-destructive and he's not humping the finish, I"ll guarantee that he's loving up the action of that gun in a big way. Lugers, far from needing hotter than normal ammo to cycle properly (there's a persistent myth about this) have a specific range of pressures and cycling speeds that they work optimally at. A LOT of old lugers have been beaten to death by people who think that they need to feed the equivalent of +P through it. With the extra back-pressure generated by the can it wouldn't surprise me if his toggle and frame are getting the living poo poo kicked out of them.

eine dose socken posted:Why do they even dress up like that anymore? When was the last time anyone in North America/Canada even seriously battled the cops with bricks and such? Like infrared said, at this exact riot/protest (depending on which block you were on), police were hit with rocks and bottles, and in some cases fought some assholes who had clubs/sticks. The latest G20 protests were notable because of their lack of violence. Some unattended police cars were burned, windows were broken but nobody was seriously injured or killed on either side. Of course, now the police have been criticized by all kinds of people for not cracking skulls. People are bagging on them for being too passive.
