WOO! Yeah!
We ROCK!

Only watched the first couple of episodes of Ashes to Ashes, it doesn't hold a candle to Life on Mars. Ashes was just them taking the pop culture references too far and moving it into a new decade so British audiences could continue to relive the A-Team, Knight Rider and other things that ads in the UK are still pounding into the ground.

Ashes to Ashes had a bit of a rough first series. The finale is pretty great and so are the second and third.

Burnt through BBC's House of Cards after finishing up Boss.

Personally I loved Boss and thought it could have gone to some really great places so its an absolute shame Starz cancelled it.

BBC HoC was great, although it suffers from the "I already watched this plot in (US) HoC" as well as the presentation not being as well polished but that's more so the era of television it was aired in versus today's production quality.

Overall both HoC are really great stories.

I'm trying to now figure out if I want pick up Tudors or not. I tried watching the first season a while ago but I couldn't really get into it, does it get better as time goes on?

It has Jeremy Irons, which is a huge plus if you ask me. He is very believable as the egomaniacal, filandering holy father

Just finished Rome. What a great short lived series; it's such a shame it was cancelled, and it's really obvious they rushed the final couple of episodes to wrap up.

Titus Pullo is now one of my favourite TV characters of all time.

I've started the second season of Game of Thrones. I don't think it's a popular opinion but I think the show's a little overrated. It's not bad but it's not the greatest piece of television ever made.

Season 2 isn't very good at all. It meanders all over the place with new characters and threads, and gently caress all happens. The current season so far is markedly better with keeping track of all the storylines and not making it boring.

I've been rewatching Alias lately, and it really was a pretty good show for the most part. Lots of J.J. Abrams flash-forward bullshit, and the quality of the episode(s) seems to be inversely proportional to how much Rambaldi bullshit you have to sit through. Still, overall a pretty good show.

If you like The Thick of It you should watch Veep if you're not already. Made by the same guy and has an all-star cast.

Haha yea, I adore Veep which is what lead me to seek out TTOI; In the Loop shall be next. Thanks

Afterwards I plan to peep Enlightened too since I have HBOGO. I hear it got a raw deal from the media who shat on it out the gate as opposed to Girls and basically doomed it from the start. Grantland had a story about its unfortunate demise and the first comment was a link to Grantland's smarmy hitpiece on the debut episode heh.

I've been rewatching Supernatural lately, season 5 is so good.

It's a hard knock life.

Started Lost for the first time last week. I went in knowing the gist of how it ended from friends who were diehards when the series was on the air. I stopped at Season 3.5 and just decided to read a synopsis or two on each of the remaining seasons and character arcs/analyses. I am happy I did. Not a show you can binge through for one thing. And episodes were just dragging on. In the end, the whole thing just seemed...pointless? At least I didn't spend 6 years following it to have it end like that.

It was a good show, I guess. But nothing worthy of the praise everyone was giving it all these years.

If I've made a huge mistake by doing the above, let me know, and I'll get around to watching through the remaining seasons.

As I am writing this, I realised I should probably just go a head and finish what I started. I'll be back to comment/make edits to previous thoughts(if needs be)

Yeah, if you've got the time it's worth it. I have a pretty negative opinion of LOST overall, but seasons 4 and 5 are really enjoyable. Maybe even more if you already know what's going to happen.

Whenever I did a "background" rewatch last year I was kinda dismissive the whole time (rolling my eyes "oh lost you silly show") until at some point around then when I found myself fully engaged. Of course, I did switch back to half-assed eye rolls early on in Season 6 (which actually managed to seem even more erratic watching it all back to back) but it was still totally worth it.

Yeah you definitely stopped watching right before it started to get somewhat good again, I thought seasons 4 and 5 ranged from good to great and the season 3 finale is balls to the wall insane.

That being said, I was so disappointed by season 6 it almost ruined the show for me. I still think seasons 1-5 are good television but for any rewatches I do in the future I'm just going to ignore the last season and pretend that it ended with season 5.

I watched the show religiously while it aired up until there were only two or three episodes left and then I just stopped watching it. I still have no idea how it ends. It wasn't really a conscious decision, but I've never had any desire to go back and watch it because I'd be so confused. It was definitely one of the most interesting and least consistent shows I've watched. I'm in the same boat with Fringe now though and that's one of my favorite shows ever so it may be a mental illness on my part and not indicative of anything.

Without any spoilers, is season two of American Horror Story worth watching? I liked the tone of the first season but I know they switched everything up with the second.

Apparently my wife and I are in a Jason Katims mood, because the shows we've been watching are Parenthood and Friday Night Lights. She's a fan of the former, and I'm a fan of the latter. Parenthood isn't bad, it has a great cast and the plot follows the characters (which make realistic decisions, just like FNL's characters... save for season 2). As for FNL, I love it and am loving going back through season 1.

I stopped watching season 4 of 24 I think 6 episodes in. I could ignore most of the political stuff in 24 but the secretary of defense letting his son be tortured made me roll my eyes out of my sockets (also 'IS THIS WHAT YOUR RELIGION TEACHES YOU'). I watched the last episode of 4 and the first 2 of season 5 and I'm enjoying it a lot more already.

Season 4 wasn't great, but season 5 is one of my favourite TV shows ever.

Heads up though, only watch the first 4 episodes of season 6 and then skip straight to Redemption/season 7, making up whatever story you like to cover the gap.

And how do we do that? We hurt a lot of people...

I have 2 months off between jobs and haven been binging heavily, the latest show being Suits based on recommendations in this thread. I loved it so much I watched both seasons in 2 days, but now my problem is that I can't get into the other shows I have queued up. Luther is probably quite good but it's too serious to jump into right after Suits. I've also got Supernatural, I've only watched the first 4 episodes so far but I tend to skip through much of the monster of the week scenes. Whenever the older brother is on screen my mind jumps to Jessica Alba because of Dark Angel and I just get disappointed that she's not on the show. They also killed Tyra from Friday Night Lights in the pilot, that didn't work in their favor.
So I guess I'm looking for something more similar to Suits, something with entertaining characters and entertaining dialog.

Dont give up on Supernatural. I assure you, if you stick with it, you'll thank me later. The main arc starts picking up toward the end of the first season, and it just gets better up to the season 5 finale. The arc that runs through the first five seasons is amazing.

It takes a dip in quality after season 5, but it's gotten a lot better again. Season 8 just ended.

I think Season 4 gets a lot better on re-watch when you can just enjoy it going off the rails. Season 5 is as close to a perfect season as 24 could get, but it's a shame the plotline never got the wrap-up it deserved. Although instead of the first four episodes of season 6, watch the 5th just for the dumbest twist/surprise the show pulled in the entire series. Just know it's downhill from there that season.

Redemption/7 were a good return to form.
