Hi everyone, I just wanted to poke my head in here to show off some of my work (although it's not as amazing as some I've seen in here!) and talk crochet with some people who are as obsessed as I am with it.

I've been crocheting for about 7 years, and I love it. I almost always have a project with me. Mostly, I do accessories (hats, scarves, gloves/mittens, pins) and amigurumi, although I'd love to get into doing more clothing items. I enjoy making blankets as well, but I don't do them much since they use so much yarn, and it gets pretty expensive if you want to use something of really good quality. Anyway, here's a picture of my most recently-completed project, Cthulhu!

I decided a couple of days ago that I just needed a plush Cthulhu, so I started this up and finished it yesterday. Lots of trial and error involved, but once I got my pattern worked out, he was pretty easy to do. Also, here's my Ravelry, in case any of you goons wants to be my friend! http://www.ravelry.com/people/wildgift

And electricgoat, that Portal blanket is loving fantastic. I've never had a lot of patience with tapestry crochet, but I'd like to get better at it. Did you work that with a bunch of bobbins? I assume so, since you can't see the black or blue yarn behind the white areas. Amazing work.

Thanks, shark farts! I love your amigurumi creations, and I'm totally happy to give you my wing pattern. I just made two pieces like this:

ch 6, work sc in 2nd ch from hook and the one after it, sc 3 in next ch, sc 1 in each of the next 2 chs; ch1 and turn (7 sc)
sc in first 3 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts; ch1 and turn (9 sc)
sc in first 4 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts; ch4 and turn (11 sc)
sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 2 chs, sc in next 5 sts, 3sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts, 3 foundation sc; (19 sc)
If you want to change colors like I did, attach your second color now, ch 1, and turn
sc in next 9 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 9 sts; fasten off (21 sc)

I also ran some jewelry wire through the top row of my main wing color and then crocheted around it when I crocheted the top row so that it was hidden. If you decide to do that, it'll give your wings some more structure, but it's not necessary if you want them to be floppy.

Hopefully I wasn't too unclear, but please let me know if you have any problems, and I'll try to explain better. And you don't have to give me a pattern just for that, but if you really want to, I'd love to have your pig pattern. I love pigs so much.

edit: electricgoat - tapestry is just what you call crochet with inline color changes like that. And it sounds like you did have bobbins going on the top part, from the way you described your process.

Thanks shark farts! I hope those wings work out for you.

In other news, here's a work in progress, pre-blocking. If everything goes right, this will be a pillow soon.

Seeing that Portal blanket made me finally get off my rear end and do some tapestry. Thanks, electricgoat!

That looks amazing, Stitch Bitch! Is it going to be a pillow case, or will you stuff it and have it be the pillow itself?

Thanks! I'm planning to sew a fabric back to it and stuff it so it's the pillow itself. Also, I still need to stitch the button names and Nintendo logo on it, and I need to block it since it's a bit uneven right now. I really hope it turns out well.

I normally don't block things or do gauge swatches unless I'm making an article of clothing, but that controller is all uneven around the edges and pucker-y, and I'm just so anal that I can't leave it alone! Maybe I'll crochet a border around it and call it a day.

Yeah, like I said, I'm super anal. Although the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward just saying "gently caress it". Anyway, if I do stuff it and it still bugs me, I can always just take it apart and block it later.

There's a lot of talk about tapestry crochet, but I'm not really familiar with that. Any links of information or should I leave that until I'm a bit more experienced with crochet in general? I haven't really done that many projects and none were especially challenging. I really like that pillow, makes me want to make something like it. ^^

Also, Stitch Bitch, that Cthulhu is really cute and if you wouldn't mind could I also use your wing pattern? It's just the thing I was looking for for my baby dragons.

I don't mind at all if you use that pattern. Same goes for anyone else, it's free to use - it's just a quick little thing I worked up.

As far as tapestry goes, it really is all about planning. If you're carrying a lot of color strands, it can be a bit tedious trying to keep them untangled, but otherwise you just crochet as normal.

Also, that's an awesome box stitch tutorial, popgenie. I remember a couple of years ago trying to figure that out based just on a text pattern, and it took me so loving long to get it right.

Awwww, kells, your Angry Birds plush is adorable. And I'm back with a magnetic Katamari from this pattern: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/lib...gnetic-katamari

Unfortunately, I didn't have anything metal on hand to demonstrate its magnetism. However, here's a bonus shot of my cat, Gato, lording over it. Just because.

I've also been working on other things, so I haven't finished my NES pillow yet, but all I need to do at this point is sew on a back and stuff it, so it shouldn't take long when I actually decide to pay attention to it again.

It looks like you're supposed to slip stitch into that first ch1 space you made at the beginning of the round, right after the first bobble. So at the end of the row, you do your last bobble, your last ch1, and then you reach past the bobble to your left and put your hook through the ch1 space to slip stitch the round closed. That's how I understand it anyway, hope it helps!

Hi there ladies and gents! I'm here to talk to you about yarn bombing.

Yarn bombing on Wikipedia

If you don't know what it is, check out the Wikipedia link above and do a Google image search for fun pictures. Basically, it is graffiti in which yarn is the medium used. The reason for this post is that the first International Yarn Bombing Day is coming up on Saturday (June 11th), and I plan to make at least a couple of yarn bombs to place around town somewhere. Are any of you guys or gals with me? If so, make sure to photograph your bombs and post them here for all of us to see - additionally, tell us what city you're in, if you're comfortable with that, so we can go check them out in person!

How could you post that without posting http://yarnbombing.com/

If I had spare horrible yarn here, I would totally join in. But unfortunately all my spare horrible yarn is 30km away at my parent's house.

I thought about posting yarnbombing.com, but then I figured if anyone was really interested, they could just follow the link from Wikipedia. I'm lazy. vv

I feel bad having so little to show now, since it took me like four days to post, but I ended up only getting one little bomb done. Also, sorry that these pictures are so blurry, I was trying to be somewhat stealthy and didn't spend a lot of time trying to photograph it.

Parking meter in downtown Winston-Salem, NC:

It seems kind of silly, but I really love a random pop of color in the middle of a city like that. I will probably try to do more of these in the future.

It seems to be written a little confusingly, but I think I get where she's going with it, so I'll start it in a bit and try to get some pictures of it in the process to see if I can help. Unless someone else beats me to it first!

Edit: Okay, I've gotten it down. Unfortunately, I realized that I left my camera at home (I'm out of town for a week), so I just have somewhat-blurry webcam photos to work with. I hope this helps anyway. If I don't explain anything well enough, just let me know, and I'll try to make it clearer.

First part is pretty self-explanatory:
ch 26
row 1: sc in second chain from hook and each additional chain (25 sc)
row 2-3: sc in each st across (25)
row 4: sc in first 2 sts, then this is what you should have:

Next, you do a front post treble stitch around the first stitch of the first row (the circled stitch above); still looking at the bottom row, skip the next four sc, and then do a fptr in the next sc (the circled stitch below):

This is what you should have now:

(I've roughly outlined all of the fptrs to make th:em a little more visible as well)

Now, looking back at row 4 (the current row), find the last sc you did. Skip the next two sts after that, and then work 1 sc each in the next four sts. It should look like this:

Next, do a fptr in the sc on row 1 next the one where you did your last fptr (circled above). This is what you should have now:

Continue the above pattern across the row until you're unable to do any more fptrs. There should be five unworked sts left at the end - skip the first two, and then sc in each of the last three. ch1 and turn

rows 5-7: sc in each st, same as rows 1-3

It should look like this so far:

Begin row 8 with a fptr around the third sc of the third row down (row 5), circled above. It should look like this:

Look back to the sts from row 7 behind the fptr you just made (the ones you'll be working single crochets into this row). Skip the first one, and work sc into each of the next four. This is what you should have now:

Work a fptr into the circled stitch (should be the one just to the left of the stitch you worked the previous fptr in), skip the next four stitches in row 5, and work a fptr into the next stitch:

Back up to row 8, skip two stitches after your last sc, and work four more sc:

And just keep working the pattern like that. I think with the fptr rows explained, the rest is pretty self-explanatory. I hope this helps and isn't even more confusing than the actual pattern was! Also, sorry if I made any mistakes, I've been working on this post off and on for a few hours since I've had some other stuff going on, and I kept losing my place. So, there you go!

electricgoat, your Doctor Moos are super cool! That Fourth Doctor is definitely my fave. And Kitten Cakes, your stuff looks really good too. I love that banana.

Lately, I've been working on the first blanket I've done in quite a while. It's going to be a giant Tetris board, and it was commissioned by a fellow goon. So far, I have 143 of the 200 4.5" squares done (it's going to be loving enormous), and then it'll be on to joining and bordering. I'm pretty excited to do this, and I hope it'll turn out awesome. There will definitely be pictures when that happens. Here's what I've got right now:

In other news, I finished that diamonds washcloth, if anyone is at all interested. Then my niece took it and began to use it as a hat. No pictures of it in hat-mode, unfortunately.

So I finally finished and sent off the Tetris blanket I was making on commission for a fellow goon. It ended up being between 7 and 8 feet long and between 3 and 4 feet wide, so the proportions weren't quite ideal, but I did make it based on an actual Tetris board, so whatever. I took some pretty awful pictures of it too, and didn't bother trying to get my edges straight or anything, but take a look! How could you not, after such a glowing description?

Thanks LevelC! And Knitter, I wouldn't have even made this if it hadn't been requested/paid for. I love blankets, but they're so time-consuming and expensive to make, that I usually don't even bother. It wasn't too bad though, took me about seven weeks or so of not-too-dedicated work to get it done.

TSS= Tunisian simple stitch. Also, I just want to second the ravelry recommendation, it's pretty great. As far as learning new stitches and techniques, I think the best resource outside of having people to show you in person is YouTube. There are tons of knitting and crochet instructional videos on there, just do a search for what you're trying to learn.
