Paradol Rex posted:The only problem I had with the pilot (watching on dvd) was that they played the opening credits which blew a ton of twists in the first episode. I wish they had just forgone the open for the first show. But don't forget that when he started Buffy, Joss wanted to add Jesse to the opening credits of the pilot episode only to kill him off in episode 2. So credits or not, anyone is fair game.

Ok, so my friend has been ragging on me about how much Buffy sucks and it's so terrible and blah blah blah. But he's only seen the first 3 episodes of the first season, along with Once More With Feeling. My final bid to convince him otherwise is to show him the entire main story arc of season 2. He has agreed to 10 episodes. So far I came up with 9: School Hard, What's My Line Pt. 1 and 2, Surprise, Innocence, Passion, I Only Have Eyes For You (debatable), Becoming Pt. 1 and 2. Which other one(s) should I throw in? I was thinking Halloween or Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered for a comedy episode, or possibly Phases or Killed by Death, but I don't remember if there's another important Story Arc episode to add in. Edit: If it helps, he likes Charisma Carpenter a lot, but is not much of a fan of Allyson Hannigan. Uncle Ulty fucked around with this message at Jan 20, 2011 around 04:13 |

In my friend's case, he wanted to see OMWF specifically, because he's a big fan of musicals in general. What I'm thinking now is that I'll probably add Hush to the list of 10 episodes, and maybe The Body. I'm guessing that even if he doesn't still outright hate the show with a prejudice after watching those, he will probably be stubborn about it anyway since he's been naysaying it for so long. But if I can get him to watch those, then at least he will have seen enough of the important bits and pieces to where he won't be making a baseless accusation anymore. I tried to tell him that Buffy works better as a whole work as opposed to a single episode-by-episode basis, but he feels that if a show "doesn't get good" until some time after the series premiere, then it isn't worth watching at all. And yes, I'm aware that this guy needs to be slapped around a bit.

I'm the worst person ever. I now own every single printing of every single issue of Buffy season 8, including every variant cover and every reprint. This means that I just spent $200 on the super rare limited edition version of the first issue. I only did it because it normally goes for $250, and my deluded mind somehow thinks that I might be able to make my money back someday because I have the whole collection. Happy birthday to me.
