Aimsurplus says all new surplus ships in cans in boxes, not crates anymore. Did we hit re surplus year that they changed over? I have a can opener, but I have yet to buy surplus again to use it. Time to get a tin of 54r I guess

Roundboy posted:Aimsurplus says all new surplus ships in cans in boxes, not crates anymore. Did we hit re surplus year that they changed over? Now I am just guessing here, so this is just hyperbole, but maybe it was done for cost efficiency. Companies like Aim decided since more people only usually buy a can at a time and they were getting stuck with mountains of crates, that it would be a better idea to leave them in Europe and have the cans boxed instead. This way you could fit more tins in a shipping container. Just looking at the two crates of 7N1 I have next to a loose can I could guess that a thick box with two poly straps around barely larger than the cans would save a lot of space. I am guessing the space in a container previously taken up by bulky crates probably allows almost a third more ammo to be packed in a shipping container for the smae or similar price.

Makes me glad I purchased at a time where they were still shipping in the crates. Got 3 of em stacked up in the garage and they're pretty loving neato. Got a few can openers sitting around too because of it; lots and lots of ammo to go through, I need to hit up the range more.

I just bought a crate of Yugo 7.62x39 from AIM, and it came in a Crate. However, the ammo was in a hermetically sealed tin case, so it probably made sense to keep it in the crate for shipping.

This may not be a deal, but I just moved to Colorado so it's all I can go on. Normally, the Winchester white boxes are the cheapest thing at Walmart, but they had a bunch of Federal brand 9mm for $10.47 which is cheaper than the $23.something the WWB was. It looked like they had about a case-worth which is more than the ones in Minnesota every had.
