Interesting. This video actually made me realize that I'd have little issue playing this in full Japanese. I guess being geared towards combat helps quite a bit here. But then I think to myself: why should I, when previous titles were localized? It's not Idolmaster 2. It's not like they can't localize it, they're just too proud to outsource their own material. Still not buying it though, lol. I guess a lot of hopeful fans will start believing that a PS3 patch will come out due to this video, huh. Considering the fact that the Wii version still lacks a patch, I wouldn't get your hopes up. Graces F can't even run on 3.41, or so I hear. It probably contains a system firmware update within, which comes as no surprise.

Megalixir posted:As far as any outsider can tell, the Wii patch is coming along fairly quickly as far as fan translation of games go. It's not as if Wii and PS3 projects are well documented, so there's a bit of pioneering going on at any given time. Their earliest update is July of this year, and judging by the progress meters, it looks like they're looking at a 2011 release since they're doing things a little backwards from how groups typically approach these projects. Remember how long the Front Mission 5 project took for the PS2, when it was one of the first completed translation projects on that system? Hint: years. By all signs, I think the right people got a hold of this project, so it's well-deserving of hope. Although it does seem people are indeed posting that Tales of Graces F requires a 3.5 upgrade. You may be able to do some downgrade tricks to get it to run - not sure. Actually the head guy over at the site posted on the 3.5 upgrade: Tempus posted:It does force a 3.50 update. No worries, we’ll get around it if we need to. Rascyc fucked around with this message at Dec 7, 2010 around 18:14 |

I don't know how they did it, but Sword Dancers are terrible monster pals. Ravenous, on the other hand, well. . . mine is level 164 and has 9999 A.Atk 10x experience is the best thing, Mania mode has been a breeze. btw do I get the Fire/Thunder centurion abilities later on if I intentionally let Lloyd steal the core? Rascyc posted:Yes, I know of them. The same guys who did the Zero patch, which can be played on a Japanese Wii without resorting to piracy. In order to play Graces on a PS3, the firmware included has to be applied. So in order to play the game on 3.41, the .iso of the game would have to be extracted, the firmware file needs to be removed, and the game needs to be redistributed by .iso. Considering they are strictly against piracy, this is most definitely positively not happening. I wonder how people will enjoy the demo in English, which requires latest firmware in order to download the demo, but requires 3.41 in order to run in English. All of them are hosed, unless they downloaded the demo during 3.41 or earlier and haven't updated.

Megalixir posted:So in order to play the game on 3.41, the .iso of the game would have to be extracted, the firmware file needs to be removed, and the game needs to be redistributed by .iso. The demo patcher downloads a version of the demo should you not have it installed on your system. Of course, it does not get it from the PSN. Did you really think that was the only place to get it? Also, the Zero patch and the Tales of Graces Wii patch work on all Wii consoles, not just Japanese ones. There can be some display problems on PAL systems. I don't even really know how to approach you about the 3.50 stuff. I guess I'll just ask you, why do you think repacking it into a new ISO would work but using r3volution wouldn't? I know, it's really fun and easy to be a negative naysayer, but you don't really have the background knowledge to be laying these claims. It's still really early in the PS3 hacking stages, and the game just came out. Can you at least wait a couple months before you break down with lines like "I knew they couldn't do it!" On another note, of interest, certain text (battle, menu, etc.) in Tales of Graces (F) and Tales of Vesperia are all in the elf/dol. This is sort of obvious, but anyway, since Tales of Vesperia was encrypted, we could only go by the elf for a long time about "how much English" is in the game. They've since decrypted the rest of Vesperia, and it really has a lot of English in it. It wouldn't be hard to organise and patch with r3volution (compared to Graces), providing a way to re-encrypt it was found. Unfortunately, most translators don't find the project appealing, because Tales of Vesperia 360 was already released in the US. However, I'm kind of curious about how many fans would play ToV PS3 in half English? I guess only the fans who were die hard enough to import it despite not knowing Japanese in the first place. ruta fucked around with this message at Dec 9, 2010 around 17:51 |

Jesus, I hadn't even seen that patch. That looks astoundingly well done and I deeply want to try it, though I'm a complete newbie as far as any dongle/jailbreaking/screwing around with firmware stuff goes. I was just going to play it with my crappy osmosed slow-as-hell JP knowledge. The new one looks pretty Legendia. It's got the same pastel-and-ruins thing going on, to a degree.

So is it pronounced "Zillia" or "Exillia?" Also, it looks like the logo has a little guy and girl silhouette, presumably reflecting the two main characters, which is kind of neat. I wonder how they're going to do the "two main characters" thing? Also, I wonder if this is the Tales team trying to get rid of the idea of a "Team Symphonia" and a "Team Destiny," since even though they theoretically combined the two teams, Vesperia obviously had a "Symphonia" feel and Graces had a "Destiny" feel.

Looks like Exillia would be closer to what they were going for. Despite Inomata being there, I'm still saying it's a Team Symphonia game until I see the fight system. I'd love to see a game with Team Destiny fights and chats and Symphonia everything else, but it might seem like Team Destiny "won" if they got rid of that annoying TP system, right? Considering the main guy is a med school student and the main girl is a something with spirits, neither seem like the typical straight up melee fighter a main character tends to be. I'm fine with it if the main guy is capable of being a main healer (like Sophie from Graces), though. There really aren't enough male healers in the series. Hisui was precious in a lot of ways. I just hope this game isn't some science vs. spirits type story or something.

Is there any other series where the publisher has been so adamant about denying an English release of almost every game despite a vocal fanbase? I mean we even got a Sakura Wars game, eventually. I can only hope the same thing will happen here, and some small JRPG localisation company will pick up the rights to Tales once the series dies and Bamco stop caring.
