The scenes are subtitled and only japofag nerds play these games anyway so I doubt anyone would mind. I've pretty much gotten to the point that I want the Tales studio go away. It's just too annoying to see yet another game we'll never be getting.

I think people totally exaggerate when it comes to Dawn of the New World. It feels like an under-developed Abyss, and I definitely wouldn't call it bad.

Abyss was made before skippable cutscenes was an industry standard. Sorry, but there's no way to get past dialogue. You also can't skip the anime cutscenes, either.

There are spa scenes in at least a couple more games. Phantasia had multiple ones, and so does Hearts. Symphonia 2 also gets a couple. All of them involve spying on the other group, so I guess the Tales studio really are pervs.

Yeah, that line is terrible, but Tales has always been a terribly written series. Dawn of the New World just happened to have its own catchphrase.

So far we have exactly one current gen Tales game (Symphonia 2 doesn't count ) which is pretty piss-poor compared to the previous generation. We only got three last gen, didn't we? Symphonia, Abyss and Legendia. They kept the Destiny games and Rebirth to themselves. Last gen wasn't much better than getting two this time.

I dunno, I thought Luke's growth was done pretty well. Certainly better than any other character in the Tales games I've played (Symphonia, DotNW, Innocence, Abyss, Phantasia, Hearts though I couldn't read it). What I liked was that he didn't go "I want to change" and instantly he's a good person, it actually took time before he got settled in a new persona. Then again, I went into the game expecting Symphonia on the PS2 and didn't get it, so it might be a case of lowered expectations.

I'm wondering if this is something other people notice or it's just me hating on it unfairly. It feels like it's a lot harder to handle multiple enemies than it was in Symphonia, but maybe it's just because the monster AI sucks balls and there are more enemies on average than before. I don't remember any sliding around, but I do remember attacking being really awkward. Like, Emil won't actually swing his sword until after you let go of A, instead of when you pressed it. Also, I played Abyss on a fat PS2.

Gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed in that new character. They're usually pretty good about not making the generic love interest the healer (only times I know of are Mint and Cheria). Where's my huge, axe wielding tank healer, Namco?

Amppelix posted:I played a bit of Hearts (Maybe an hour?) And it seemed like most battles came down to: Mash attack and/or arte button until the combo gauge runs out. Run away to recharge. Repeat. This is because no enemy could do anything while stuck in a combo, and they couldn't really stop you from recharging the gauge either. And this isn't like Graces where you've got enough juice for maybe 4 attacks, no. That gauge will last you for at least ten. I dunno, maybe I was doing something wrong. It's like that at first, but then becomes a game of the enemy just deciding your hits don't connect half way through a combo, followed by them stun locking you. It makes people like Innes (slow attacker) much harder to use and seems like they didn't put a whole lot of thought into the system. It's fun as hell, but random encounters can get really frustrating. (Also gently caress Chalcedony for using his Mystic Arte twice in a row)

Really hope those screenshots are just bad quality (just look at Nintendo Power's DS screens) cause if they're not, that's really disappointing. The first screens we saw of the game looked much better though, so I'm pretty sure that's the problem.

Symphonia was my first "real" Tales game (I played Phantasia GBA before but... yeah), and ever since then I realized I should just ignore everything story related, and focus solely on the battle system. Luckily it was probably one of the best I've ever played, so I've been able to play the games without much trouble.

I never bothered with cooking in Tales games, since the effects of recipes was always really tiny, and you only have two opportunities to cook anything (after a battle and once before you enter another one). Innocence's system was the best, you could cook whenever you wanted and they became items. There was no cooking skill involved, you just needed certain recipes to be able to make others. Of course, finding the recipes can become pure hell with the dungeons, but that's a problem with area design.

I'd rather it be costumes than say, ten hours of gameplay that was clearly held back so they could release it on another system. It still gives the feeling that Namco doesn't really "get" DLC though.
