Wait. So what the gently caress happened? I left the bar after the Seahawk's lost it, and all of the sudden the Charger's lost? How the hell did that happen?

Ref blew a call as an incomplete pass when it was a fumble. Because of the way the rule is worded, the ball is down when the whistle blew.

If that wasn't the case, it would have been SD's ball, but Denver kept possession and shanahan's got giant brass balls.

But the really weird thing was that he didn't rule it an incomplete pass. He admitted in the call afterwards that it was a fumble. That's why the ball was put at the 10. The official call on the play was a fumble that died the minute it was fumbled. It was bizarre.

He ruled it an incomplete pass initially. If you watch the replay, you'll see him waving his arms with the incomplete signal right after the ball hits the ground.

It was only after replay that it was declared a fumble, but since it was already whistled dead as incomplete, the ball gets spotted where the fumble hit.

Yes, Hochuli initally made the wrong call. The call after the review was correct, as lovely as that may sound, to the current rules.

Im just surprised that he admitted his mistake right then and there. Usually with big gently caress ups like this the official crew refuse to say they did anything wrong until weeks after the fact.

This is why Hochuli is still one of the best refs in the NFL. Yes, he blew the call initially, and you could see in his face after the review he was pissed at himself that he hosed up.

I'm positive he would have given the bolts the ball if he could.
