Does anyone happen to have the little baggie of earbud covers that came with their premium earbuds? I threw mine away when I first got it, and now one of my earbud covers fell off and I lost it, so I'm screwed. I set up a thread in SA Mart, but no one bit, so I guess I'll ask you Zune gentlemen - I'll pay five bucks for the pack thingy. http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...hreadid=3014423

I like to make a suggestion and not buy the 100 dollar Zune speakers from Altec Lensing. I bought it back in mid-April and it broke in November. I took apart to see what wrong, and the part of the mother board with the power switch broke off. And since I opened it, I can't get it repaired (which I lost the receipt, so I wasn't going to be able to have it repaired anyway). Avoid at all cost.

These ones? http://www.zunescene.com/altec-lans...-zune-speakers/ I have used them for quite a while and they have never failed, and I think they put out pretty good sound for the size. Plus, they make a good dock for connecting to a PC and charging.

I have one too and it works great. I also have the newer, slightly crappier model with the small LCD screen, and it works great too. Dock options for Zune owners are very limited, so I can't see warning people off of just about the only choice.

I just recently bought a zune after 3 unhappy accidents with previous ipods. At first I was pretty happy with it, but three problems have arised, all that are HD space related. First off, is there any way to create a playlist directly on the device? I only have 30 gigs available on my really old laptop (but works for what I need it) and I have all of my media on a large external. Moving the songs over to create a playlist to sync annoys the hell out of me. Same thing with being unable to play files on the computer directly from the zune. I have to copy them back? That sucks. And the last thing I just discovered after some messing around, I subscribe to a lot of podcasts, and I wanted to keep all episodes of each one on the zune (this is why I bought the 120). My HD was once again filling up, so I deleted the podcasts from my HD... and find them wiped from the zune too. I don't have this problem when I add music to the Zune, move it to my external, then delete the music (I put that I would manually sync songs) so I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. As a newbie to Zunes, is there any way around the three things I mentioned? Otherwise I love the zune, but it's starting to annoy the hell out of me. Thanks ahead of time. edit: I just remembered, is there anyway to make the zune only download one podcast file at a time? I looked all over the settings but I can't find anything. I rather have it download one than take forever downloading five at once. leftover fucked around with this message at Dec 10, 2008 around 02:14 |

Why not plug in your external hard drive when you want to sync your Zune? That way you can keep auto sync on without filling up your laptop's hard drive. Alternately, you can turn off auto sync, and then when you delete the podcasts and stuff from the laptop it isn't deleted from the Zune.

Unfortunately, the laptop cannot power the external and the zune at the same time since it's ancient. And auto sync is off, and works fine with songs, but for some reason when I delete podcasts from the drive it deletes them from the zune too.

I don't have this problem when I add music to the Zune, move it to my external, then delete the music (I put that I would manually sync songs) so I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm not sure how exactly it will treat old episodes, but it looks like the answer you seek is in the series settings button at the bottom right corner of each podcast. You can set it to not sync at all (manually sync episodes you want, just like with music) or (probably more useful, but again, not sure what it will do with old episodes) sync only the first unplayed episode. There's also an episodes slider, and if you crank that all the way up to "all" and choose sync only latest unplayed, it's possible that it will keep everything on the Zune and ignore the fact that you're deleting old episodes on your computer as you go. Now for a question of my own: if I reformat my computer, can I easily just dump everything on my Zune back on to the hard drive so that I can continue to use automatic syncing? The last thing I want to do is reformat, install the software and have it sync first thing, nuking everything on my Zune.

I'll buy a new laptop when this one breaks In all seriousness, thanks for the replies, it looks like it's a "feature" for some odd reason. I freed up some space and will just eventually back up podcasts on the external when I need the room. Thanks!

Ahh the zAlternator thing, yeah it doesn't work with 3.0. I'm not interested in some "key hijacking" hack anyways, I'd prefer a straight up replacement method that doesn't involve the Zune software. Ah well.
