So I'm a new (4-5mo) rider and I did my first track day at Firebird East. What causes the bluing I'm seeing here? Is it something to be worried about? The tires have like 800mi on them, 600 of them being twisties, 100 track, and 100 highway. I was running 31/29 in the tires. BlackMK4 fucked around with this message at 21:57 on Apr 20, 2009 |

infraboy posted:Why do people change the sprockets so often on bikes? On CL about half the sportbikes have some type of changed gearing, usually shorter it seems. Do 600CC sport bikes not accelerate fast enough for normal people? Or is a 160ish top speed not enough either? Down one up two on a stock 600 wakes the bike up a shitload. Also, complaining about mild gearing changes on a 600cc supersport saying it seems silly for the street is ridiculous, the bikes are already huge overkill in the first place. I don't need first to top out at 85mph, so I deal with shorter gearing and some touchiness for curing a lot of the down low lag that 600s seem to have with stock gearing. Dropping gearing also puts the bike in the power at fairly lower speeds, which is pretty nice on back roads where you don't want to be way up there in speed but want to have fun. I'd kill for 200 mile range, my bike hits 'fuel low' at ~110mi, and that is down 1, up 2 so about 10% off.

I sent my stock 09 ZX6R Ohlins steering damper to Dan Kyle Racing and had the needle valve swapped for the real Ohlins piece for $100. Worth every drat penny on this bike the way I have it geared... the lightest setting is stiffer than the previous hardest setting and shake is an issue on this bike.

I've got a cruiser, so I'm not looking at logo-tastic neon textiles, but I'm concerned that the summer heat of Livermore would put regular leathers out of the question. Perforated leather? In the winter, I'm sure regular leather will be fine (I wore a non-motorcycle leather jacket all winter when I was interning down there, kept me at just the right temp). When it's really, really hot I have a Joe Rocket mesh jacket, but I feel like an idiot wearing it. The jacket is ok in the summer because it has vents and it works in the winter because it has a 'waterproof' liner. Going out to ride for fun I wear my track gear though. So for daily driving, you will probably not rev it high enough to use all of it's power, correct? Eh? You can use all of its power on the street, you're just going to get tickets if you're not careful. The 600s aren't real great as a daily because it has no real power below 6-8k and once you feel that power start to come in it tickles the back of your mind all the time. Also, they aren't the most comfortable things ever to ride. I enjoy my 09 zx6r as my daily and trackday toy, I've never really had issues riding 600-800 mile days on it. Same complaints people have about the Honda S2000, there are some people that can handle the nature of the thing and there are those that hate it. It's like... 10* here at night. loving Kawi made it so the whole front fairing and side fairings have to come off to get to the radiator cap. Any chance of filling through the overflow? Yes, distilled + water wetter. I walked out to ride to class today and coolant had pushed itself past a few hose clamps.

More of a track question, but how do you guys handle really long corners with few reference points? I always find myself having a poo poo line or inconstant... especially the slow corners. The bike doesn't feel like it settles or is as stable, but I guess that would come down to throttle control? For example, turn 4 at Firebird East I loving hate this corner, I feel like I lose a lot of time there but I'm able to make up a lot in 8, 9, and 10. There is also a corner at my old ride spot that is the same. BlackMK4 fucked around with this message at 06:39 on Feb 27, 2011 |
