Note: If there's something you'd like to see added to this OP, please PM me. SAINT'S ROW 2 Genre: Open World Sandbox Action Release Date: 10/14/08 (US) Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, PC For those of you unaware, Saints Row came out a few years ago and was basically a rip off of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. A pretty good ripoff. The humor, plot, and voice acting was passable at best, but it was a drat fun sandbox world to play around in. They even improved upon GTA in some ways, adding deep character and car customization, GPS-like destination mapping (thank Christ), and most of all some pretty entertaining side activities (insurance fraud sticks out as a particularly good addition). A lot of people dismissed the game as a poor man's GTA, which it is, but when you're waiting years for the next-gen GTA, Saints Row was a welcome respite. Flash forward a few years. GTA 4 came out this Spring and blew the hell up. Most people loved it hysterically. As a long time GTA fanatic I wanted to, but the truth of the matter is I only liked it, and all my friends had the same reaction. It was an undeniable technical achievement, but it seems like Rockstar went all out to make a remarkable New York simulator with nothing really new or creative to do in it. Yeah they fixed the combat mechanics, but ultimately it felt like a photorealistic version of GTA 3. Rockstar seemingly forgot what made us love open world sandbox games in the first place: Finding crazy poo poo to do in a huge world that always seems to have some more crazy poo poo hidden around the next corner. The developers of Saints Row 2 have not forgotten this; they've embraced it. It may not have the visual polish of GTA 4, but SR2 makes up for that with a world filled with over-the-top activities. A: There's no particular order you have to do them in, but several people have noted that Samedi --> Ronin --> Brotherhood seems to provide the most satisfying story arc. Q: Where do the ATVs spawn? A: If you get a wanted star, the mall guards come at you on ATVs. Q: Where the hell is the mall? A: It's in the High End Detail District, but there is no indication on the map that it is there. If you draw an imaginary line between the penthouse loft and the nightclub, the exact center of that line will be the entrance to the underground parking garage for the mall. Just drive down to the bottom and walk into the mall. Alternately, have a look at the below image; The mall is where the "1" bookmark is: ![]() Click here for the full 1024x768 image. Q: How do I quit a mission? A: On the Xbox if you press down on the D-Pad it tells you to hit down again to quit the activity/mission. Q: How do you throw people? A: You grab a person and hold the left shoulder button for a second or two til you've got them, then hit the shoulder button again to throw. You can also sprint while still holding them by pressing the right shoulder button after you have them. Q: Is there a way to execute people after you've grabbed them? A: Left Trigger while you're grabbing them. Q: How do I beat insurance fraud at higher levels? A: Go to the area on the map that is highlighted by a blue square when you're already in the zone and the timer is ticking, then throw yourself in front of traffic. This gives you more adrenaline. When your adrenaline bar is full if you get hit by a car you fly 100ft into the air and can control your descent, chaining hits together. Go someplace where there are a ton of cars (adrenaline will not start to drain until you ragdoll the first time after filling it) such as a highway and start racking up the money. Intersections where construction vehicles spawn are also good; bulldozers hit you harder and are also bigger and easier to get hit by. Q: How do I upgrade/improve my gang's hideout? A: It will improve all by itself as you progress through the story missions. Q: How do I unlock new fighting styles? A: Complete a bunch of story missions. Q: Where do I get facial piercings? A: Nobody Loves Me in the mall Q: During the sewage truck missions, how do I refill the sewage supply? A: L2 stops the truck, stop spraying to refill. Q: How do I beat higher level Mayhem missions? A: The more small things you blow up the better. Explosives on the interior of buildings are especially effective (try satchel charges in the casino). You can also use the satchel charges and hit fences. Just toss them and blow them up in midair when they're near the fence, the last level should have them as one of the unlimited weapons. Each fence piece is worth abut 800-1000 and you can get a combo up to like 75 if your aim is good which makes each fence piece worth about 4000. The suburbs is the best for this. Q: How do I start Ho-ing missions? A: Find a public bathroom. Gas stations are pretty good for this. Q: How do I get the "Going The Distance" achievement? A: Throw people off the top of some of the skyscrapers in the downtown area or off the top of the mountain; sometimes a wayward pedestrian will spawn all the way at the peak with the radio tower. Q: How do I beat higher level Crowd Control missions? A: On level 5 or higher, use the baseball bat. Q: Where the heck is Barely Legal? A: It's just north east of a clothing store in the 'burbs. Q: How do I start the Base Jumping activity? A: Hijack a helicopter or airplane and fly up into the sky. When you get to a good height, exit the vehicle, and when the prompt appears to open your parachute do so. You’ll then get another prompt asking if you want to start the Basejumping diversion. Alternately, you can run and jump off of someplace really high like the mountain next to the university in order to start the activity. Q: How do I change my gang's style? A: In the gang hideout, go to the main room where everyone hangs out (down the stairs from the statue) and take a left. There's a glowing icon which will let you edit your gang's style, taunt, vehicles and your tag for when you're doing graffiti. Q: Where's the casino? A: The casino is in the marina district. On the map it's the fan shaped thing south of the clothing store Branded. Street Lessons with Uncle Gary epitomises Saints Row 2 for me. Tacky, badly produced and desperately aiming for the lowest common denominator. I can't compare it to GTA IV, I'd rather compare it to something like Mercs 2 or Just Cause. In this sense at least Saints Row knows it won't be taken seriously, and is just a bit of sandbox mayhem. For that, I'll be at least trying it out because everyone likes to blow some poo poo up and the cusom characterisation is one of it's biggest strengths, but I don't think it'll have the same impact on me as sandboxes before it. And seriously who writes Saints Row radio content? Two & A Half Men's interns?

I loved GTA 4, Saints Row 1 and I even enjoyed Mercenaries 2, so I'm pretty sure this is going to be a great game for me. I'm getting Saints Row 2 because it's basically GTA if it went absolutely insane. Who cares if the dialouge in the original was cringeworthy? Dressing up in a crazy outfit and then decking out a van with hydraulics and a kickass blue/red metallic paintscheme before throwing yourself in front of a truck for insurance money beat the hell out of everything else. I guess I'm a sucker for customisation, and Saints Row has always offered that in spades. Now that SR2 promises even more I gotta admit I'm really looking forward to it. Let's just hope the PC version is a good'n.

I loved GTA: San Andreas, a lot more than the previous GTA's, so when I read about this coming to the PC I thought it sounded like a bit of a laugh for a good few hours at least. Then I tried looking for a place that sold the first Saints Row for the PC... oops.

I'm looking forward to the game, I really enjoyed the first SR so I'll pick this up for the PS3 next week. I really liked the large number of extra events and minigames the first one had, so if you didn't want to do missions you had a lot of extra things to do, rather then be constantly badgered by people in GTA4 asking to go play minigames.

webcomics thread posted:I can't decide if to get this or not. It looks pretty dumb but it could be really fun in co-op. It's fun as poo poo even in single player. Seriously, while GTA IV had an awesome story and was an excellent game, if you want OLD SCHOOL GTA, this game does it a lot better. It's fun, it doesn't take itself at all seriously and there's tons of potential for hilarious chaos. And side missions, holy christ there's a lot of side missions. I liked Saints Row, I love Saints Row 2. And there isn't quite as much toilet humor as there was in the original, but it's still not as witty as GTA is at its best. Still, at least the newspaper headlines you get after each mission are hilarious. Spoiler relating to said headlines: After you chase some homeless people out of an abandoned hotel, the headline says "Homeless people even more homeless." That had me laughing for a while

This is same in 2 but now there are many more ways to earn respect (in-mission stuff like headshots, etc.) so hopefully it won't be as annoying.

I've crushed the first gang and halfway through the second, so roughly midway through the plot. I've completed Insurance Fraud and done a few levels of the rest, and I'm constantly at about 6-8 bars of respect. The cool thing is that they give you a lot more for shooting gangers, blowing poo poo up and even doing missions.

Supposedly, this one is much more polished than the first. I mean it isn't going for the GTAIV high crime drama angle, period, but I hear that it pretty well matches what GTA was pre-GTAIV. Mostly humourous, some theoretically serious plot devices that are interesting but background, lots of potential for sandbox whatever, etc. Would you say that's true? That is - that it fixes just about everything Saints Row 1 did wrong, and just continues the sandbox gameplay in the direction set by Vice City or San Andreas instead of the GTAIV serious angle.

Man, this is one of my most anticipated games of this year. Although I'm salivating for Fallout 3, Fable 2, Far Cry 2, and Midnight Club; this game is one I know I will be playing the poo poo out of because it will be so much absurd, retarded fun. I loved the first one despite all the technical issues and although I liked GTAIV to a certain extent, the more serious and realistic tone sort of got in the way of why I play open world games. This will allow me to wreak havoc and just do outlandish poo poo unlike GTAIV where if I shoot my gun in my apartment by accident with no one around I get a friggin wanted star. I know the first thing I will do is run out and get a katana so I can run around slashing the crap out of random pedestrians and being a complete rear end.

I've been playing it for about a week on and off, which means me sitting down planning on playing for an hour an sitting there for 3-4 hours playing missions, doing activities, and running around trying to find fun stuff to do. The graphics aren't anything amazing, but its not something I notice once I start playing. Like other people have said, it takes itself less seriously then GTAIV. Overall I think its one of the better 360 games to come out in the last 6 months to a year. I also enjoyed the first one, so I expected this to be an improvement.
