Fuckin' Steam is slowing down. 93% and my download's down to 1/3 of the original speed. Not having to pay ridiculous piles of cash for repairs sounds fantastic to me, especially for early-game pirate hunting.

Out of curiosity, people who got the DVD version, where did you get it? Seems like nobody in my town is selling it, from GameStop to Walmart. Granted the people work at GameStop in my town are subhuman troglodytes, but they said they'd never heard of it and wouldn't be getting it. Same story from everywhere else too.

If I recall the myriad of DRM correctly, TAGES is the one that fucks with the actual mechanics of the game if you have an improperly cracked copy. You'll get poo poo like invincible enemies, weapons that do almost no damage, etc. Although I haven't actually heard of anyone using TAGES in a long time, so I don't know how it's changed over the years. Yep. It's last use was in Dark Star One, and it got so bad with loving legit owners (If you had an SCSI Drive, DVD-RW, or SATA Drive = hosed), that the running solution was to download the reloaded crack.

Holy crap on the repair beam! I need to try that ship hull repair on a Xenon L I got to abort just now after scanning the pirate base. Apparently it didn't have any weapons (It wasn't attacking me at all) and once I got its shields down it ejected with still about 90% hull. Thing sells for over a million which is great. It will be nice to have an upgrade to a new ship this early in the game.

You have to fly very close and go around slowly, eventually you'll find a spot where the scan percentage shows up, then just stop and let it go. Get within 500m of it, stop, wait. Returning to Heretic's End after that mission, I ran into an unfortunate situation in Circle of Labor: a Kha'ak carrier, destroyer, and four clusters, about ready to start steamrolling the stations. I deftly fly around them and escape notice, and make it back to Heretic's End. Next mission, I have to patrol through there, and the place is a loving mess. The destroyer and carrier seem to be gone, but the system is FULL of kha'ak scouts. Maybe a hundred. Me and my wingmen go to work, and clean the place out. :cowboy: There were only supposed to be a few Xenon in the system, not an entire Kha'ak armada. We won anyway! edit: it turns out that a big Argon force took down the capital ships. Quite a few bombers in there, so they must be effective. I'm really excited about this game and will probably purchase it soon, but that's not why I came to post. I wanted to ask a question. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5x6IoFH7hhc What the gently caress does Duke Nukem got to do with Deep Silver? Hmm, you can't seem to dock at the Goner temple in Elysium of Light anymore. It's a different model, and doesn't show up on the map. Like debris, but it's not. Wonder where you get jumpdrives now...

I just started playing the game for the first time and the basic controlls seem streight forward enough, but I'm a little confused. I started out as a Terran, and I've followed the story to the point where they give you a free ship (M5 scout or something), but it seems worse than my starter ship in all aspects. Do they expect you to upgrade it?

All I wanted to do was visit Earth, but apparently the other Terrans have other plans and they decide to blow me up instead the moment I even jump into that system. The view of Earth from the Moon is pretty cool though. I'll have to settle with that until I'm allowed into the system. However.. once I have a large enough armada I know the first system I'll be wanting to take over.

Do they expect you to upgrade it? It's weaker, but much, much faster (once upraded). Being fast in combat can keep you alive. The ship you're flying is most likely an M4 - a medium fighter. An M5 is a scout ship basically. It's good for mapping out sectors, or shuttling things for courier missions, or running through something. M5s are the smallest (triangle on your hud), then M4s (triangle with a line under it), then M3s (triangle with two lines). There are other sizes, but those are the basic fighters. Doing at least some of the story line is a good way to get started. Yeah, the voice acting is atrocious, but it's foreign and who cares maybe people talk goofy in space! But the missions give you free poo poo like ships and items and such.

This game is a blast even though a lot of it is just cruising through space. I've just managed to capture three Xenon L ships and I have them auto piloting back to a shipyard. I'm anxious to see how much they sell for!

I'm still downloading mine here, so clarify something for me. Is the campaign in this expansion dealie worth it? I know that it isn't supposed to be worth anything in X3, but did they fix that, or should I just speed out and do my own thing.

There's 5 campaigns (you have to unlock some of them by progressing in others) and I must say the Terran one isn't too bad so far. Gets you a nice wing of M5s pretty quickly.

As much as I like TC so far, it just doesn't feel like an X game until the cockpit callback mod comes out. I just need to wait for someone to do that, and until then I'll just have to finish reading the manuals and other guides

While I'm here, has anyone done the humble merchant start, and if so, how does one get the campaign going? I've just been exploring and trading, and I went back and found the initial flight school instructor, but after the tutorial nothing seems to happen, even when I try it on a new start. I don't want to miss out on any campaign freebies; trading your way up starting with 10k and a Mercury sucks rear end.

I started with the humble merchant starting package, and I've gained enough cash to want to start going into combat (also I figured out finally how to have the mercury do trade remotely, heheh). My first thought was to at least start with mounting impulse ray emitters to my starting discoverer, but they are sold out EVERYWHERE. I literally checked each argon equipment dock out, and there is nothing. Am I missing something here? Any other tips for starting equipment?

Is there any chance you've selected a different weapon group with the buttons 2, 3, or 4? Try pressing '1' and see if that fixes things. I have not started as a merchant, but often turn off weapon group 1 so that I don't accidentally shoot a friendly target while fiddling around with the menu, but forget to turn it on until after my first pass at an enemy in combat.

If you're flying around in the mercury, then no there aren't any weapons on it because its a freighter and you're poor so the rear turret doesn't have anything either. Change ships into the Discovery, the other ship you have, by Shift+E to eject, fly within 25m of it in your space suit, and hit Shift+E again.
