One thing that's missing from my DS is a cryptogram game. Is there one out there? I haven't found one, but that doesn't mean much.

Two things: 1) If I wanted to play Mother 3 using DS Homebrew, I could use a CycloDS and an EZFlash 3-in-1, right? 2) Is there a nice homebrew app that will play my MP3s all nice, too? I mean pretty interface and good quality sound with the DS closed? Sorta like a proper MP3 player, except, not.

I don't know anything about Mother 3, but Moonshell is a fine mp3 player/text reader/video viewer. Link: http://www.gbatemp.net/index.php?download=1638 (might not be latest one) It even comes with a handy installer!

If you do get a CycloDS and want to use Moonshell you should use the version just for the Cyclo. http://www.cyclopsds.com/cgi-bin/cyclods/engine.pl?page=support

SnemulDS is on the whole pretty bad, but it works fairly well for some games you might want it for. I know that Super Mario World and Link to the Past work near flawlessly, for example, and Chrono Trigger works okay, too (Though at this point you may as well wait for the port). The compatibility overall is pretty mediocre, but that shouldn't stop you from trying it with some of the games you really want to play. You might be surprised!

As far as the NES emulator, it has some flaws. Manic Mansion restarts every time you try to play it, and Mother (Earthbound 0) just goes blank after you choose a save slot. Also, a lot of baseball games (Baseball Simulator 1.000 and BaseWars, for instance) are pretty glitchy. RBI Baseball isn't, though. Aside from this, though, the majority of games run perfectly. If you can't get nesDS from the normal link, I'd suggest trying here. There's a general mess of DS goodies there, but definitely not everything out there.

Even games that work often have distracting but not game breaking layering problems. For instance, Earthbound seems to run great for the most part, but the background of the Starman Jr. fight would not cooperate with the settings that worked for most of the game, although you can easily make a quick tweak to make it playable. Outside of that most everything is great except I can't seem to find a layer order that gets the sprites able to walk behind things, in terms of playability its not an issue, but its annoying to be on top of things you should be behind.

Regarding the dead batteries in 3-in-1s from RHS, I messaged their support and they apparently have a new batch in now. They also said they'd test mine before shipping it. That's some serious customer service, right there.

When I checked with their site about mine it looked like they only had a 14 day support policy. Any idea if they're supporting units that shipped before that? (mine came in early september, but I didn't realize it was dead until mid October)

I'm still waiting for my replacement to get shipped back. Will post a trip report on the new one when it arrives.

Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves here. You can pretty much guarentee that flash cart makers will find a way. We may have to buy new cards, or maybe if we're extremely lucky, all we need is a firmware upgrade. Worst case scenario, you'll have to flash the DSi's firmware. I don't think homebrew on it is out of the question yet.

Since DSes have WiFi Support, would it be possible to have an interface to download games directly on to the DS? Maybe an app like Wii Shop except Homebrew.

I'm still trying to decide if it's worth it to upgrade to a Cyclo + 3-in-1 from my M3 Lite + Superkey, which work perfectly and haven't given me any problems... maybe when the next iteration comes out for the new DS, assuming they add some new functionality to Lites. As it is I play my PSP more than my DS lately.

My replacement 3-in-1 just arrived, and it's one of the new version batches too. Not an old one they had lying around since 2006. I hate Mother 3's intro cinematic so much, after doing it 20 times testing the first one. edit: Weird, it came with a Super Mario Advance save already in it. Looks like I got a used one (either that or they tested it before shipping it to make sure I wouldn't just send it right back again), but at least it loving works! Mother 3! So I just got my CycloDS, and outside of a few problems (My EZFlash 3in1 didn't ship with it and I lost my free microSD card ), I'm pretty happy with it. The interface is nice, although the file trees make me remember Windows 3.1. Blech. I like how it's super simple to use and understand, so I guess that makes me eager to geek it out. I found a pretty sweet skin for it on deviantart. Be warned, half of the deviantart skins for Moonshell are naked dudes. If that's your thing, that's cool, but be warned if not. Are there other MP3 player homebrew apps? Moonshell's not exactly the media player I was hoping for. Optimally I want a media player that runs in Book mode and lets me make playlists. I'm not sure if I'm asking for too much, but if there's a player out there that does that, I'd be pretty stoked. Btw, can the thing read PDF files? Also, I'm wondering if there are ways to control my home theater system wirelessly via my DS. I've seen DSAmp, and it looks cool, but it doesn't seem like I can pick & choose the songs.

Your options are (if it's text) convert it to txt and use a text viewer, (if it's pictures) convert it to jpeg and use one of the comic viewers, or get a PSP. For mp3s, I use lmp-ng. It's an ipod clone, I've never done more than just hit random but I imagine there's some way to make playlists.

So I have a EZ Flash 3 in 1 and it seems that for some reason, despite being saved onto my Cyclo, that my saves are not accessible. It just brings up "start new game" in whatever it is I'm trying to continue playing. I just lost a lot of hours in a game and I'm pretty upset. Does anyone know what the issue is? It is creating a "GBA_save" folder with the save files there. I just can't continue them. HA;LP

While this isn't the only solution, unfortunately it's the only one I've really used.

Usually it does everything automatically, but occasionally I've had to hit that button to copy saves to where they can be used. For the record, you only have to use NOR memory for big games like Mother 3. Exploader will tell you when NOR is necessary, I think.
