It was an unrelated thought! I have many of those! I was flipping through the Mage core book reading up on the cosmology and then decided to flip through the other supplements I have. I'm like "wow this is more than I ever really wanted to know about how the Watchtowers work".

The mage learns to channel his healing powers into others.

[...]Mind 3 or 4 can "heal" astral or disembodied consciousnesses in the rare cases that they somehow suffer damage.[...]

I was looking back through spells, and saw this one. Is it Mind 3/4 in conjunction with Life, or can Mind on its own heal astral consciousnesses? I don't imagine this coming up anytime soon but I like to keep my spell list up-to-date and complete!

Edit: Also what spells can I use from supplements, specifically the Mind ones in the Arrow book.

I'd allow Mind alone to heal an untethered consciousness that was somehow damaged, but actually I'm not even sure if that can happen?

I think "damage" to astral things manifests as lost willpower, not lost health levels, sooo...

Just ask me about a spell and I'll tell you if it's okay.

These are all the Adamantium Arrow spells I have the dots for (Mind 4, Space 2, Time 2, Death 1):

quote:

Eagle-Eye View (Mind •• + Space ••)
Practice: Ruling
Action: Instant
Duration: Prolonged (one scene)
Aspect: Covert
Cost: None
For each success accumulated on the casting roll,
the mage gains a +1 to his Initiative.
Adamantine Arrow Rote: Battlefield Tactician
Dice Pool: Intelligence + Academics + Mind

quote:

Phantom Thoughts (Mind ••)
Practice: Veiling
Action: Instant
Duration: Prolonged (one scene)
Aspect: Covert
Cost: None
With a single success on the casting roll, the mage
may add a layer of conscious thought over her own.
This layer contains information chosen by the mage
during the casting. Repeated attempts to read a mind
protected by this layer of false thoughts may reveal
the shallowness of thinking. Suspicious mages may
roll Resolve + Composure minus the Potency of the
Still Waters casting, to confirm the mind they are
attempting to read has been altered.
Adamantine Arrow Rote: Disinformation
Dice Pool: Resolve + Subterfuge + Mind

quote:

Kinesthesia
(Mind ••• + Space • + Time •)
Practice: Perfecting
Action: Instant
Duration: Prolonged (one scene)
Aspect: Covert
Cost: None
For the Duration of this spell, the mage’s Defense
is not reduced by multiple attackers (see the World
of Darkness Rulebook, pp. 155–156), and she disregards
one point of any environmental penalties to
her actions per point of Potency assigned to the spell.
Furthermore, the mage need not check to overcome or
avoid simple hindrances on the field, such as dodging
around the protruding root of a tree or vaulting up
a slight incline to obtain a better position — she is
assumed to have the necessary grace, awareness and
multitasking abilities to automatically do so.
Adamantine Arrow Rote: One with Emptiness
Dice Pool: Composure + Athletics + Mind

quote:

Skeptic (Mind ••••) This spell acts on the minds of Sleepers, making
them less likely to believe an anomalous event can
be explained rationally. Used cautiously, this spell
has the potential to cause an enemy mage to be the
source of his own undoing. The Guardians of the Veil
greatly disapprove of this application of magic, and
upon hearing of the use of it, are likely to go to great
lengths to… dissuade an encore performance.
Practice: Perfecting
Action: Instant
Duration: Prolonged (one scene)
Aspect: Covert
Cost: None
This spell affects the mind of a target Sleeper within
sensory range. Any roll for Paradox in the presence of
the targeted Sleeper gains the 9-again quality (re-roll
results of 9 and 10). In addition, any covert spell the
Storyteller rules improbable is considered vulgar.
The Storyteller may call for a degeneration roll for
overuse of this spell.
Adamantine Arrow Rote: Pride Goeth
Dice Pool: Resolve + Occult + Mind

quote:

Space Spells
Track Projectile
(Space ••, or Space •• + Time ••)
Practice: Unveiling
Action: Instant
Duration: Prolonged (one scene)
Aspect: Covert
Cost: None
Once the spell is active, any object that’s thrown,
fired, dropped or otherwise propelled within the mage’s
sensory range is subject to the spell. Usually this means
small objects, but it could even be used to trace the
path of, say, a boulder lobbed at the unlucky mage
from a catapult. To determine an object’s path, he must
have knowledge of where it was at some point during
its course. A brief glimpse of the object as it whizzed
past is sufficient; alternately, if he can see the object
where it landed, he can extrapolate its path back to its
origin even if he never saw the object in motion. By
adding Time 2 to the casting, the mage can discern the
trail of projectiles that moved through an area before
he cast the spell. He’ll still need some point along its
path to work with; usually this means starting at the
object’s final resting place and working backwards. The
spell can recreate the trail of objects that bounced or
ricocheted during their travel, but can’t track an entity
that moves under its own power.
Adamantine Arrow Rote: From Bowstring to Target
Dice Pool: Wits + Investigation + Space

It doesn't really make sense with how paradox/disbelief interact with spellcasting in my game, and also the effect "All paradox rolls gain 9-again" should be the result of some sort of bizarre magic-altering reality glitch, not a Sleeper being really hard to persuade.

i thought it was medved transformed/ing into a bear, jude only played as vic like twice and i don't know if ferrinus would draw up a character who only made a cameo appearance!

edit: also at some point i need to talk with ferrinus about matryoshka's background, specifically his awakening. i had a rough idea about it when i made him up but i never posted it because i was not sure of the WoD world as i am now.

the idea was that he and his partner (mikhailov, the dead one) were assigned to a case. really really brutal murders in a penthouse or something. like, blood and body parts from hell to breakfast. displays of strength that are superhuman, like breaking counters or nailing people to stone walls, that sort of thing. i was going to imply that the coroner was a secret moros but never got around to it, maybe he's the guy who introduced him to the world of mages?

anyway some leads happen -- i never really fleshed this part out -- and they find this lowlife criminal guy who was involved. he says he didn't do anything but he was just there while other people did it. he's quite reluctant to go on about who these people are, just saying that he met up with them, started hanging with them, they seemed to like having him around. he may or may not have been aware that he was the guy who's there for the rest of the group to push around and tease. he says that if he talks, they're going to find him and kill him.

anyway eventually matryoshka -- who's still detective watts at this point -- and mikhailov manage to get the guy to crack. partly by pointing out that he's a suspect in some horrific murders and that if he doesn't start giving other names it's all going on him. partly by promising to take him to a remote safehouse, transporting him there themselves to minimize the number of people who know. it's like detectives watts, mikhailov, the police captain, and a couple guys at the safehouse who know he's going.

anyway they're driving this guy to the place, it's like in upstate new york or something. there's snow. they're on these back roads. the guy's in the back seat yammering on about poo poo.

at some point the car stops. i think i decided there's an obstruction, and one of the two gets out to check. in retrospect i think it should be watts. obviously it's an ambush set up by the people the guy is worried about, who attack. they are clearly supernatural, with the implication that they tracked the criminal by scent, and of course the brutal nature of the murders.

i never really fleshed out this part too much either. at some point, though, all three of them are out of the car, probably because the attackers start attacking the car and it's no longer safe. mikhailov and the criminal run for it, with mikhailov trying fruitlessly to protect both of themselves. watts is incapacitated and knocked into a roadside ditch, the kind with a lot of undergrowth and bushes.

i'm not sure why the attackers didn't just kill him. perhaps he was still clearing the obstruction when the attackers arrived, and slipped and fell trying to defend the other two. or perhaps he was knocked aside by the attackers, who then simply ignored him since the criminal was who they were after and it was mikhailov who was in the way.

anyway he can hear mikhailov and the criminal getting killed just as he passes out. the emotional turmoil of the ordeal, combined with the obvious evidence of the supernatural (currently doing horrific things to his partner), send him into an Awakening dream.

he wakes up, he's a Mastigos, yadda yadda yadda, i'm guessing other mages took care of the attackers once they heard what happened.

i never decided on the identity of the attackers. i was going to make them vampires, but i wasn't sure if that was the sort of thing vampires might do when i first started playing mage. (i hadn't read the vampire book.) i was going to ask ferrinus but never got around to it. i think vampires would work now, although i'm not sure why they'd be so violently messy. also, matryoshka's already encountered vampires in magegame and he didn't seem bothered by them more than average, which doesn't make sense to me if vampires killed his partner.

maybe werewolves? i don't know. perhaps it was just a group of monster-of-the-week World of Darkness creatures who only show up in a few paragraphs of a core supplement somewhere.
