Anyone having trouble with the new hardware acceleration? I'm using XBMC for windows on my Revo 3610, and with the DXVA enabled, a couple of my mkvs(blu rays encoded with x264 via handbrake) show up with the bottom half of the screen being cut off, just shows black. If I disable DXVA it goes away but then the revo can't play it without stuttering. I'm pretty sure I used the same settings for these movies as I did for others that work fine, so not sure what the deal is. It does it on Event Horizon and Pandorum, works fine for the others I've watched. Maybe my XBMC just doesn't like sci fi.

Edit: Tried these movies on my main computer, without DXVA plays fine, with DXVA the bottom 3/4s of the screen is a solid green.

Known bugs. Trunk DXVA support is a little flaky right now and elupus hasn't been working on it since the trunk is going through so many big changes currently. It'll get fixed ... eventually.

All right I figured it was just a bug since the feature was so new, thanks for the heads up. Anyone know whats up with their website?

Also is there any way to get XBMC to sort movie series properly? I want them all sorted alphabetically, but then for example, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies are out of order; At Worlds End, Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Mans Chest. Only way I can see to do it now is to add numbers like Pirates of the Caribbean 1 The Curse of the Black Pearl.

This is probably more of a general Windows related question but I guess I'll try it here anyway since I might be wrong.

Is there any way to force XBMC to always, always be on top and never minimize no matter what (unless I choose to close it of course)? The reason I ask is for some bizarre rear end reason, as I'm happily scrolling through my massive Futurama, Simpsons and porn files, out of nowhere the start menu button gets pressed (somehow my remote must be loving up and every 50 or so up/down arrow presses it presses the start menu key instead?) and XBMC minimizes and totally fucks up my HTPC experience because then I have to go find a loving keyboard and plug it in and alt-tab back to XBMC. I figured I could curtail this problem by making XBMC stay maximized even if I press the Windows key or whatever. I sure know when I used to use AOL (ugh) it would happily encompass my entire screen no matter what, so I'd like to do that with XBMC.

I'm sure it's possible since most kiosks using Windows have frontends (programs) that won't minimize for obvious reasons. Just wanna do this with XBMC. Thanks!

Ordinarily, I'd go search/harass the forums over at XBMC.org about this, but due to lightning, that's not an option right now. I set up a network share as my video source in XBMC for my tv shows. I've also been using sickbeard to index everything. I just noticed that for some reason, it's not going out to thetvdb.com for tv shows that I didn't put into sickbeard. I'm wondering if anyone else is getting this? I suppose it might be because sickbeard still created nfo files for them anway, for the show if not the episodes.

Edit: Removed nfo files, that didn't help. Adjusted sickbeard to create nfo files for a tv show where I don't have eps in season directories. Those still don't scan in. Something more is going on here. I wonder if the droboshare is to blame.

Edit2: Although, now that I think about it. The music library is similarly messed up, missing all the artists that start with A just to name one thing wrong. And that is on a shared directory on another computer. So, back to XBMC being really screwy. Oh, and I updated the build to whatever the latest release was about 3 weeks ago I'd say.

You use the XBMC sets feature in an .nfo file, which lets you group movies together. The XBMC site's example uses the Die Hard series to show how you can do it, but given the site is down for now, you'll have to wait or do some serious searching.

It's four screws. I got my card off of eBay for $25 by searching the chip's model number. There are a couple threads on the XBMC forums with some pretty decent guides.

I like to have the normal iTunes syncing that the ATV provides so the Crystal HD has been a god send in playing my other content.

Now if only Boxee was more reliable on the ATV, for web content.

No.

They're going through a huge merge to add a built-in plug-in downloader and a pvr frontend that's going to cause a lot of bugs. I tried these builds over the weekend, they screwed up my library and I rescan all my stuff. If you want to play with these builds make sure you back up your userdata folder.

XBMC uses its own internal codecs, so none needed. Part of the reason i like it, I always gently caress something up when I'm screwing around with codecs, XBMX just works. Means less flexibility but whatever. MPC-HC uses external stuff so that can be used to see if your codecs and stuff are setup properly.

I just got the 3610 too, it's pretty awesome. I like the small size, means I can stick a few movies on the hard drive and take it over to my parents or a friends house. Makes a great HTPC, thinking about picking up another for the bedroom.

XBMC doesn't use any windows codecs at all (unless you're using the DSPlayer branch). Installing VLC and CCCP didn't have anything to do with it.

Nope. Nothing at all changed during the time I installed CCCP. I did some research and found that XBMC for windows uses FFmpeg for some decoding. Since some FFmpeg files are in CCCP, I suspect that helped it.

I'm still considering using XBMC Live rather than just running it in windows. Has anyone doing this seen a performance boost? I'm fine with just running it on Windows without have to do an install all over again unless there is a significant advantage.

You're pretty stubborn about this for no good reason. CCCP only installs directshow codecs, one of which is FFDshow. FFDmpeg is what XBMC uses. FFDshow is the directshow version of FFDmpeg, but XBMC cannot make use of FFDshow whatsoever. In fact XBMC only looks in <XBMC install directory>\system\players for its codecs. The only way you can use directshow codecs in XBMC is if you went out of your way to dig up DSplayer from the XBMC forums and manually configured your XBMC to use it.

Yes. Using Live and an Nvidia machine it runs smooth as butter. Also, I enjoy having a dedicated machine running Linux so it makes it easier for remote access over SSH.

Just in case anyone is actually still using their Xbox for this (I am for some rooms in my place) there's this wicked package called Resurrection extra due to come out any time. This video explains far more.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PH8G...player_embedded

But this is only for the NES. Apparently this is being done across a whole bunch of platforms to make the xbox in to the ultimate museum. The slickest part for me is the commercials.

If only XBMC would get off their asses and make a viable Games/emulator section, or at least get a barebones framework in instead of saying "its too hard" (which is what I've been seeing on the forums).

You can see some awesome skins here: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=694528

necrobobsledder posted:

I haven't really systematically tried this with local content to be honest, but I did try watching a bunch of local files and had the same symptoms of constantly dropping frames anyway. However, this was before I found out that VDPAU was actually having an issue (pulling up the real-time info showed VDPAU dropping frames on an SD h.264 content on a local drive). My particular problems may be related, but I'm not sure how even scrolling text would slow to a crawl in the relatively svelte Alaska skin due to a messed up VDPAU buffer? I suppose it's because everything in XBMC winds up being sent the the video card buffer.

Turns out there was a memory leak in the nVidia drivers with nvidia-glx-180 and nvidia-glx-185 and it wouldn't matter if you were streaming the video or playing locally in combo with XBMC 9.11 (9.04 was ok with 180/185 it seems). Removing the nvidia-glx-185 AND nvidia-185-libvdpau (or whatever name it is), rebooting, then installing nvidia-glx-195 did the trick for me (along with getting the right refresh rate set in the video playback options - 1920x1080@24Hz was fine while 1920x1080@60Hz with playback and sync caused occasional problems with certain videos). No more need to restart XBMC randomly, yay!

Edit: on top of this, there's other problems present in 9.10 that can cause similar symptoms. See this thread for the issue and fix. Just upgrade to 9.11 really.

Bonzo posted:

XBMC Live is fine if you have a dedicated device or feel like configuring everything up for occasional use on your normal computer. I use an ASRock 330 (ion-based nettop-ish computer) as a dedicated HTPC with an HP USB IR receiver to work with my Harmony 720 remote, so it's more or less another device. If you're not afraid of Linux it's kind of a no-brainer to give it a try, but if you have trouble Googling and following guides, it can be a bit tedious and frustrating.

XBMC has no native TV tuner support, though it can tie to MythTV, MediaPortal, VDR, and TVHeadend backend systems. If you can get any of those to see your tuner (MediaPortal is the only Windows backend) you can get XBMC to use it.
