So what's the easiest way to get Fanart for music nowadays? I'm hoping there's some sort of program/utility I can run that will just download all the images automatically and not necessitate me going through one by one.

You can set the folder content (on your main music folder) then select 'scan to library' and it will do everything for you, even recursive search in to the directories.

I know it's a very off-the-wall request, but is there a way to remotely control XBMC from another computer? I mean other than VNC. I sit on the couch and have my netbook handy, and I would like to control XBMC on my media PC from the netbook.

There used to be a webserver you could activate in the settings. I'm sure its still an option, and you just go to the address, 192.168.x.x or whatever, and it has all the controls you should need. I remember it being pretty useful, and then you can control it with any web device edit: theres also an official iphone/touch app if you're trying to go smaller than netbook Goldguy27 fucked around with this message at Aug 2, 2009 around 02:05 |

Make sure you have a DNS server value set in your network settings. Also, if you're an NES nerd (like I am) and have an Xbox you need to download the new Xport MEDNAFENX-NES. This the new version giving it MUCH better skinning and thumbnailing support. ![]() See the thread here: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=689055 and download all the boxart/cartridges/movies here: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=660135 Whats amazing is sitting there selecting a game and watching it cycle through the start screen + box art then to an ingame screen and the cartridge.

EC posted:Looks like it was geared more towards the actual Xbox. Does it translate well to Windows/Linux versions? there is no PC version, it is only for the xbox. Though there have been some rumblings porting it back to PC. Ideally though would be being able to have a 'games library' for games and roms such that you could assign a launcher for games from within XBMC and have a scraper do the rest of the work (getting synopsis/boxart & cartridge).

There was a little movement by a developer (leo2) but he's since said he can't work on the project any longer. Most of this is from the xbmc forums though.

My goal is to rewrite the whole app and add improvements (like the one mentioned in the previous post). In XBMControl Evo the update interval can be changed and there are some improvements to the efficiency regarding the usage of the http api (obtaining data). Also, when the connection gets lost, the polling stops completely and has to be restarted manually. This way the app stays responsive, even when not connected. But halfway the project I discovered that Mono/C# and GTK#/Glade isn't the way to go for a cross platform XBMC controller. Java is a much better option. So I had to start over. The project is dead and won't be finished, even though the source code is available on google code -> http://code.google.com/p/xbmcontrol-evo/

I'm using the XBMC Remote on iPhone and it's fantastic, although sometimes the input can get very laggy (almost over a second long), and I'd love to figure out how to fix that. Oh, the other problem with using the iPhone as a remote? It DRAINS the battery. What do you expect, it's constantly running the Wifi. So, I always leave my iPhone plugged into my other computer at my desk. edit: Oh, a question I posted in A/V Arena, but it's more pertenant to XBMC specifically. Right now my XBMC Ubuntu box is a monster made from old computer pieces I had lying around (except for the GF 9200 I had to buy to be able to play 720p). I plan to build a new HTPC, once I'm no longer unemployed. My biggest concern isn't speed or power. I only have a 32" TV, so I don't need to be able to play 1080. But my room gets really warm with this thing running all day; I want to build a low voltage, low heat output machine. My question is: does a 5400RPM HD slow down navigation in XBMC? I'm using the Aeon skin, specifically. I plan to get a 1TB 5400RPM HDD. Revol fucked around with this message at Aug 8, 2009 around 18:23 |

I'm running an AthlonXP 3200+ and a Radeon 9600 Pro and it is very slow for me, with visible slowing down in transitions. I don't know what you guys define as slow, but I couldn't take an Atom/Ion box as an HTPC.

I don't know what you guys define as slow, but I couldn't take an Atom/Ion box as an HTPC. Well, your components are ancient as components go. First, as you running XBMC on Windows or Linux? If Windows, then you don't get GPU hardware acceleration, right? My machine, at first, was comparable to yours. I've got a Preston 3GHZ and had a GF4200TI, which is just in line with your Radeon I believe. I couldn't play 720p. So I went and got a GeForce 9200, and now I'm fine. My machine as it is now is completely suffecient; the only reason I'm building a new one is to keep things cool. I've been watching Simpsons episodes for the past few hours, and it is loving hot in my room now. Sure, I've also been playing a new video game on my PC, but that's expected to make heat. But having two computers doing this is just too much. And I won't be going Atom/Ion. I'm looking for something like this or maybe even this Holy poo poo, wait. Check these out. Atom CPU/mobo combo which claims to run 1080p, has HDMI which is a requirement for me, and it even has onboard 802.11n. I... think I'm salivating. edit: ...external 90W power supply? I have never heard of that for something like this. But a review on Newegg claims this is enough for his Bluray drive and 1.5TB HDD, so... I just wanted to mention that the XBMC Live 9.04.1 disc is awesome... I've been using Ubuntu 8.10 with XBMC and had problems resuming from standby plus it took me a while to get everything working with XBMC. The new XMBC Live disc worked perfectly for me and even resume from standby now works! The only thing I had to change was the Aptitude package list so that I could use the SVN releases.

The chugging you see on transitions is somewhat due to the fact that the transition animations are done in CPU too, which would be exaggerated I bet on Atoms.

You'd have to try to be sure, but more than likely the XBMC database revision is newer/different than what is found in Plex and so this will not be feasible.

So I think it actually looks worse than having no thumbs. I don't even know why they have code that stretches images, it always looks awful.
