I honestly haven't played FC2, but I LOVED FC1 and all my friends who loved FC1 and got FC2 were either pissed that they paid money for it or glad that they pirated it.

I was basically turned off as soon as the games thread mentioned that no matter how many times you clear out checkpoints, the enemies all just respawn and it's like you accomplished nothing.

My friend said it should have been renamed "Driving around Africa for hours and occasionally shooting at something."

I had a lot of fun with it, but most people hate on it for some reason. It's nothing really like any of those games you listed, though. Especially not Far Cry 1.

Far Cry 2 is fun when you're not:

A) getting sniped at by dudes despite hiding in bushes at night without having fired a shot yet

or

B) going back and forth between checkpoints on the road that respawn fairly quickly

Thankfully there are trainers on the PC that disable the gun degeneration bullshit so that minty fresh gun you just picked up won't seize on the third shot. If you can look past those two things, it's a fairly fun game. drat pretty, too.

Yeah, the trigens weren't the best, but I still loved it. Maybe if I went back and played it I wouldn't as much, but it was a pretty big step up as far as open worlds and graphics go.

Also, luring trigens into contractor camps was great, and the ease of map editing made for some awesome multiplayer maps and game modes.

I still don't get this. I played FC2 for a few weeks and had one gun break on me, and that thing was rusted solid when I found it laying in a shed. Gun degradation in general is dumb but I just didn't see it happening in the time scale the game takes place over.

Basically FC2 is very pretty and has some neat guns; but the entire "game" is the first half an hour's worth of missions played over and over again with slightly better firepower and no clear motivation or resolution.

It's an absolutely gorgeous game but the gameplay is terrible. It's incredibly repetitive and has some very irritating aspecs - like guns going to crap, quickly respawning checkpoints, and having to take malaria medication every 30 minutes.

If the latter, I usually use the first house in Minefield - nice big bed, a safe and wardrobe right in the bedroom, (radiated) running water in the bathroom, and a radio downstairs (that only gets Enclave, I think). Oh, and enough space not to get trapped if your run multiple followers.

More importantly, other than Arkansas, I've *never* run into wandering enemies right there - fast-travel arrivals, coming out after a long rest, whatever. Semi-centrally located, too.

Greyditch is another option, but it's not as nice a neighborhood. The little ruin with the upper-floor bed/stash southwest of Tenpenny is OK, but traders/assassins/wildlife are in and out all the time. Kind of sucks to be going home for a rest and finding four Albino Radscorps loitering around.

You can loot a shitload of "free money" items in Zeta, if you're willing to slog. I think I had 140+ blaster rifles, most repaired to new. (Eventually ran out of caps, though.) Can't remember if the Alien Powercells for the Firelance/pistol blaster were there, however.

The Katana + Chinese Stealth Suit = obnoxious Raider-exterminating fun.

Thought the same, but then I went back to it at a later date. And because it was the only thing I had to play, and because I love a challenge, I played through it on the hardest difficulty. The horror, the horror. Lot of fun though. Far Cry 1 on it's hardest setting had less bullshit deaths in it than Modern Warfare 2 on second hardest difficulty, go figure.

The world and the fire ( oh God fire ) in Far Cry 2 is amazing. If there were some way of combining that fire with Red Faction Guerrilla's building killing fun, best game ever. The whole game could suck, the AI would be terrible, and I'd still pay 50 dollars just to light buildings on fire and blow flaming rubble and bad guys in every direction.

Or even better (and more plausible) Far Cry 2's fire and Crysis physics and jungles. I don't even need any AI, just buildings jungles and lots of pyrotechnics.

I remember one mission where I tried to do this after having completed another mission. My equipment was a little banged up ( I actually used my guns! ), but I was too lazy to walk into the garage to get new gear before the convoy run. I plop down an IED on the road, pick up my recoiless rifle ( or whatever it was ) and wait. Convoy comes, IED blows up, I stand up out of a bush and launch a rocket from the hill. Perfect, right?

The rocket goes up into the air, zig-zags back and fourth then comes back and hits me in the face. The only thing missing was a road runner.

Sounds kind of like OFP, except with a squad in OFP/ARMA this could be done with awesome precision.

Then of course there were times in towns where your crew got wiped out and you were just running around with a pack of Anti-tank rockets while T-80s drove through brick walls trying to murder you and it was simultaneously awesome and horrifying. After playing OFP virtually nonstop over a long weekend, hearing construciton equipment in the middle of campus put me on edge, because it sounded just like the tanks/BMPs from OFP. I am a nerd.

Odd question for those playing the Bad Company 2 demo on 360(if there are any):

Has voice-chat not been implemented yet? I havent heard any chatter and people dont seem to be able to hear me either.

Far Cry 2 has made it so I have the urge to blow up any Jeep product I see on the road. Having my first sniper rifle blow up in my hands was a joyous moment as well. I didnt think that they would actually Kb once they totally degraded. I run around with enemy guns just for the added challenge of MAYBE having my gun blow up in my hands.

Yeah, Fallout 3 bases Rock-It Launcher damage solely on the weight of the projectile you shoot. Any "hardness" or "It sure would hurt to get shot with a pool ball" goes right out the window in favor of the item's mass and mass alone. I don't remember specifically if pool balls have mass at all, but if they do, it's only 1 lb per, which isn't very good if they even have that much.

Not really. It's a goddamned dinosaur at this point, but really the best bet is Red Baron II (AKA Red Baron 3D) modded out the rear end.

That said, cram some of the better mod packs on it and it starts looking shockingly good for a 10 year old game. All of the stuff that made it suck so very, very hard when it first came out was fixed by the community. No, I don't ahve a list of mods right now, it's been about 3 years since I installed it. The concept of the launcher is great, and the ability to shoot bitches with teddy bears (why are you (not you you, a general population you) doing this sell them for 30 caps each dummy) is amusing and all but its wholly inefficient at actually killing things. Griefing is a whole nother ball game though. For some reason I see people saying hurrr use pre-war money its weightless you have unlimited ammo for it but if damage is based on weight then what you WANT is to get overloaded as gently caress carrying nothing but vacuums and crazy 15 pound trash.

Sure, it takes an hour to walk to something worth shooting. You ever thrown a vacuum through a bitch's skull? Makes every white knuckling step worth it. Also, once you do this you can jam the launcher in a locker and never need to pick it up again.
