Actually its Bioware points since you, as far as I am aware, can't buy the ME2 DLC via Origin but have to go via the Bioware store instead on the PC, and they're not available anywhere else. Unless they've changed this at some point.

BarkingSquirrel posted:And I remember a time when people were making GBS threads their pants in rage when Steam was first announced. Unusual and complained about at some point in time doesn't mean its a bad thing/idea. The big issue is that EA is doing it so loving terribly. Steam broke all the important ground a long time ago, and so far they're doing a mediocre job of cloning a service that's been around for the better part of a decade. If you're going to re-invent the wheel, at least make it a nicer wheel, not one that falls off or refuses to turn half the time. Also, individual platforms individual publishers, fracturing the market entirely, is a pretty crap situation for the consumer. I don't know about you, but I don't want to have a poo poo-ton of wrapper programs running on my computer for all the various games I play. That's one of the nice things about steam - it is a content delivery system that lets you get at pretty much anything you would want to play. Finally, gently caress any system which has me pay in online fun bucks rather than money. Yes, this includes MS's system, and is a big part of why I don't buy DLC for most MS games (what few I play to begin with). Yeah they've got a captive audience with the XBox and I guess you have to do that if you want to run that system, but as I'm a PC gamer I give zero fucks about the Xbox and the level of MS garbage people have accepted just because "it's the way it's done." This isn't even getting into the fact that a HUUUUUUUUGE part of building an online library with a content distributor is trusting them. I'm not saying that I love and worship Steam or Apple or think they're anything other than corporations running on a profit motive to maximize what their shareholders get at the end of the year, but they've been doing this poo poo a long time and, barring some kind of fairly crazy situation, aren't going anywhere any time soon. At the very least I feel confident that they're not going to either fold or just tell me to get hosed sometime in the future by doing something incredibly lovely. Mostly good track record up until now. EA? They have no track record with this poo poo. Maybe in 3 or 4 years I'll think about trusting them enough to buy stuff on Origin. Until then, they're not making anything that I NEED to play that badly. Despite how retarded it's looking I am disappointed that I'm going to miss out on ME3, if only because I won't see how it all ends, but it's not THAT huge a deal for me.

Alaan posted:Did everyone cool leave or did someone just put replace their sugar with lead as the coffee sweetener of choice? I don't know what happened to them. Baldur's Gate 2 is still one of my favorite RPGs, and it was full of interesting dialogue and characters. It had it's flaws, especially the romances, but those were easily forgotten. Their other games could be predictable, and a bit bland, but they generally weren't outright disappointing or terrible. I really enjoyed playing through ME 1. Dragon Age 1 wasn't the most amazing thing ever, but it scratched all those nostalgia itches just so. Sometime after those games, something happened. When your lead writer starts saying things like 'Well, I think Twilight is far more effective with its romantic elements than most people give it credit for. Granted, it has little else going for it-- but the romance it does well.' and your response isn't immediately firing him, and putting his work to the torch, bad things happen. I was looking for clips on youtube to demonstrate this masterpiece of drama, and even the loving search engine seemed to know what was up. ![]() gigglesquee I wish I could be paid thousands and thousands of dollars to hand in a half-assed first draft script.

I have an i5 2500k and loading the game attempts to max out all four cores and feels like my PC is just seconds from having a total hardlock. Then I get in game, and every so often get little freezes. Not lag, but actual hardware issues. Everyone I play with has had this happening lately, which is why we really haven't played as much. At least I haven't, anyway. Hahahahahaha, I have been having these intermittent hangs/freezes you describe, and it has been driving me insane. I thought my computer was going to die or something, initially. I play with Mike a lot and I'm always complaining about it to him.

Beat The Darkness II today after plinking away at it the last 24 hours or so. Probably 6 hours of actual gameplay in the story mode, plus Vendettas (challenge mode, MP and SP) and New Game+. It was an really honestly fun action game. Genuinely surprised me. I never played the first game, but I used to read the comics as a kid. I was not expecting the game to be as good as it was given the state of games these days. Pros
Cons
All in all I was extremely surprised by this game, which I sort of picked up on a lark and was expecting very, very little from. Though the cons list outnumberss the pros, only one of them is actually a real detraction -- the bullet-sponge factor is kind of annoying. The rest is massively outweighed by the pros, which make for a really pretty comic book game with some variety to the violence and a lot of enjoyable action. I'm gonna play the first one, one of these days, I think. I enjoyed this game enough for one playthrough and maaaaaybe even a second depending how bored I am between now and Syndicate, which I have low expectations for.

By which I mean, they did a piss-poor job of imitating something Bungie already showed everyone how to do years ago. Bungie is not really that hard of an act to follow ... you'd think? specifically, this demo: wow the Reapers sure take forever to glass or eat or whatever a planet with their REAPER LASERS and hm, this is poo poo. Covenant glassing a planet was far more HOLY poo poo and ODST did a better Future City. Halo 2 did a better Future City. The whole little kid gimmick was terrible and awful. The second half was marginally better and leads me to believe the only enjoyment of this game is gonna be the constant namedrops of all the characters from good Mass Effect games. Kirrahe, I want that gun. And Wrex: loving Wrex. I also want to feel the FOV is tighter on Shep but that may be my bitterness speaking. I sure didn't catch half the "look at these sweet scenes we put in the background" since the cueing was poor and the FOV was tight.
