And is the damage in Red Faction persistent at all? I mean, after you wreck a city block and you drive off, will you return a few minutes later to fresh new buildings?

On a related note, I've found myself hitting the 360 a bit more often recently, even going through some older titles. I would totally dig getting in some co-op Mercs 2, and I've got most all the big shooters. Gamertag is same as username.

Uncle Caveman posted:"Crusader: No Remorse demo system requirements: Pentium 75MHz 8MB RAM (Oh those Origin programmers!)" This and the hard drive nostalgia going on reminded me of an awesome story I read recently. If anybody here played the original Wing Commander on PC, you might remember that every time you finished and quit to DOS, you'd see the message "Thank you for playing Wing Commander!" I'd taken this at face value until a couple months ago, when a dude who was one of the lead developers for Origin posted the explanation. For Wing Commander, they had written their own memory manager that the game ran on top of. Companies had to do this in the late DOS era, since the operating system didn't handle higher memory like modern ones do. During testing, this memory manager would consistently throw an error message when exiting the game. It didn't affect the program at all, since it was done after you quit, but it looked really bad to have an error consistently popping up. As the deadline came closer, they were still unable to track down what was causing this error. So, in desperation, this guy went into the error reporting code for the memory manager, and changed what that particular error displayed when it was thrown. So instead of reporting "Error #xxxxx", it printed "Thank you for playing Wing Commander!" That's how the game shipped.

Plenty of stuff I love, like the character customization, turf wars, and side missions; but when I kept failing a mission out in the country and having to drive for ten minutes each time to get back to the starting point, that burned me out pretty quick. GTA IV's "retry mission" option sidestepped this perfectly. I'd really like to see the turf war mechanic come back in a future iteration. I enjoyed the hell out of packing a car full of gangstas, rolling up, and starting some poo poo.

Inspector_71 posted:So I have Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 1. I've hardly gotten through ME1, but should I finish it before moving onto 2? Absolutely. It's not like you're having to slog through some archaic, broke-rear end game to get to the fun stuff. Mass Effect 1 is good enough to still stand on its own merits, and there's actually some continuity between games that's based on the decisions you make in the first. In fact, I'm probably going to give it another run through before I pick up ME2, just to freshen up. ME1 is one of a very few RPG/adventure type games that I've played all the way through multiple times and am still willing to do so again.

Elite fighter my rear end. Keep in mind that not all characters have proficiency with all weapons. If you're using a non-proficient weapon (like a Vanguard using assault rifles), then you'll have poo poo for accuracy. The size of your crosshairs should give you a good idea how accurate you are. If you're stationary and aiming with a proficient weapon, the crosshair should be dead on.

I'd actually planned on playing some Star Trek Online this weekend, but the typical new MMO teething problems meant that their servers were down for a good chunk of the weekend. In lieu of that, I've been playing ME2. Good fun. It'll probably get me to pick up the PC version of ME1 to run through again next time Steam has it on sale. So I've played a couple hours worth of Bioshock 2 now... My conclusion? Honestly, I'd rather be playing Mass Effect 2. I'm sure part of it is due to my lack of skill at PC shooters, and I'm sure I'll stick it out until the end, and I'm equally sure it'll have a fairly engaging story, but the game just hasn't reached out and grabbed me like a modern game needs to. I mean, seriously, in this day and age where if you don't have a new release five-star title that waiting for you, you can just download one from any number of legal sources, I am spoiled as gently caress. If a game doesn't do something within the first two hours that makes me think "Holy gently caress, I need to keep playing this" then I don't keep playing it, simple as that. I'm not saying that Bioshock 2 is bad, not at all, but it's extremely similar to the first one so far. Playing it at the same time as ME2 is really driving home the difference between a limited-scope universe with absolutely brilliant character interaction/development and a beautifully realized setting with practically no character depth.

So I just finished up Mass Effect 2 over the weekend. It's got plusses and minuses, but I think the biggest issue I currently have is that I want to go back and do another run with a different play style, but I also want to lead it in with an appropriate run of ME1 to see how those choices play out differently. It's gonna be retarded in a couple of years when the third one's out, and I'm meticulously playing through the whole trilogy back to back to watch the (minimal) impact of my actions.
