Got a fun ticket today.

Have to download an ex employees user folder from a remote northern clients DC. The folder is sitting around 7 or 8 GB. I have to download it from the server over a 256/56 satellite connection. Then I have to go through all the photos and videos to see what in there is "work related" and what is "personal".

I pray to the IT gods, if there is porn, please let it be normal porn.

This is going to end poorly,

I had a guy call in from a customer we just took over managing a week or two ago. He couldn't get his outlook setup. Easy enough problem to fix so I remoted onto his computer.

First of all, his computer is on the domain using a local account. The user does have a domain account, but doesn't know the password. The last management company forced a password change six months ago and according to the end user, he closed out of it without changing the password. Then I find out he just upgraded this PC from windows XP to windows 7 without telling anyone. Windows 7 is also complaining about not liking the key. Then with the help of somebody in the office, joined the computer to the domain, which is on an SBS2011 server. They joined it using the windows settings, not using the SBS wizard.

I love inheriting IT contracts sometimes. We have a pre-schedualed site visit for them in a few days, the account manager and onsite tech are gonna be having a chat with about how we manage things. Im thinking there are going to be some accounts having permissions removed.

His PC is so boned.

Me: Ah that's why this computer is acting weird, its loaded with Virus's, You did the original setup this computer Jim. The customer says he didn't install anything. Way to go installing Firefox, Chrome, Picasa and VLC.
Mark: No it wasn't Jim, According to the customer I spent four hours surfing the net on it, that must have done it.
Me: Ah, so you <pornsite1> it up eh?
Mark: Listen.. I've told you before... its <Pornsite2>,

Wondering if i could ask the thread for a recommendation. I have a client that has two main sites, 30 or so users and roughly half of them are always on the move to hotels and the like. The customer is a pseudo-government organization so they need to track what websites their equipment goes to inside and outside of their physical network.

Is there an application or a device that can do web monitoring that generates a report for both the static and remote users? We tried initially to do the monitoring that is built into the fortinet firewalls, but ran into nothing but trouble with them.

I installed QB 2012 from the disk, server only installation for the Quickbooks Database server manager. Install finished without errors, since its on a server i arrange a time to reboot.

Server comes back up, get an error that if i want to use the program I have to install it from the CD so i rerun the installation again and reboot.. and it does the same thing again

Was there some sort of Microsoft distributable that came with it (.net or C++ or something). I did 5 QB updates and 3 sage updates, I didn't actually watch the install process.

its actually a fairly large hub. There is a Norad radar station up there and a fairly large port, for up north anyways. During the summer they are a base of operations for any Naval forces up there and are home to an icebreaker during the winter. They even get a couple of cruise ships every year.

Getting up there isnt too bad. Its about a 3 hour flight out of Yellowknife which is about a 2 or 3 hour flight from where I am.

They dont have daily flights up there so ill probably be up north for a week and a half

If you can stand the month of no sunlight in the winter, Whitehorse wouldn't be too bad. Temperature-wise it's pretty similar to Edmonton, and in the summer you get 20hrs/day of sunlight and there are tons of lakes/camp sites to go drinking at. But beyond that you start to get into the dry communities up north, which I don't think most people here could deal with. Also, when you get 20+ hours of sun in the summer, you get 20+ hours of NO sun in the winter.

To be honest the lack of or excess of sun isn't that big a deal for me. I know the peak of summer we get a good 18+ hours of sun here and about 16+ hours of darkness in the winter. My problem is I rely on the net for a lot of my entertainment. That and the people around town weren't exactly welcoming either.

Ive attempted the group option, and the group has full deny permissions in security and in the advanced exchange settings. User still has full access to the mailbox. The customer is livid because they haven't done their companies GST filing for last year, it was due in November apparently, and the CRA is riding them hard. I cant tell if the data is corrupt or their windows xp install, which is on a P4 1.7 ghz computer with 256mb or ram is the problem.
