I just got this thing:

I hadn't driven a manual trans car since sometime before 2007. :stonk:

Better than one of those with an automatic. An ex-girlfriend of mine had one and it was a silly/sad thing to dive -- partial throttle tip in off the line and it felt like you were giving it 80% thottle. They had the low gearing and throttle set up to really jump off the line, then go nowhere fast. I would feel quick in a test-drive, I guess... but living with an automatic would be terrible.

At brands hatch I shared a pit with a guy who drove one of those all the way from Germany, I assumed he was a big Sebastian Vettel fan.

I forget if I posted this picture but heres the newest picture of my shitbox.

Shortly after this the turbo decided to develop a load of shaft play on the exhaust side. Ended up finding out it was actualy an old HKS kit from like 1997 and was a mitsu TD05-16G variant. Ended up going to owen developments, who do turbos for lots of proper motorsports stuff and asked if they could improve the spool slightly.

Ended up going with their own design of billet compressor wheel and i'm impressed with the results. Spools up like a std ceramic CT20b but with a much bigger punch.

Currently its sitting outside in the rain covered in dust because I dont realy have time to drive it at the moment and the weather is poo poo. :shepicide: Hopefully I can get one more track day in this year before the weather starts getting even worse.

I think the manual trans version is setup the same way. It got up to 4k-ish rpm around 60mph. Gear ratios are listed here http://www.feoa.net/threads/the-escort-gear-ratios-thread.66007/

It's more of a mechanical sound than a wind wooshing noise. The best description I can think of is it sounds like gears turning loudly. I'll try to record it next time I'm able to drive it because I suck at describing sounds.

Maybe if they would have wrapped the whole car in it. They're cut specifically to fit the holes in the doors' construction where wires and things don't protrude.

Patina is still in, right?

It wasn't $600.

It's my granddad's old truck, and has been sitting since his death in 2005. Me and my dad went to my grandma's this week and messed around with it, unsticking the brakes and clutch and carburetor float and so on. That's all it needed except gas in the tank and air in the tires, and I drove it 40 miles home yesterday at 45 mph. It seemed content.

1967 F-100, 98,000 miles, 240 six cylinder, 3-onna-tree, no frills. I'm planning on a light restomod but will probably leave the paint as-is. There are a few real rust spots in the typical places, cab corners and front fenders, but nothing structural. I'm not really worried about them. Right now, it's tires and brakes and shocks and seatbelts. Later, maybe some lowering beams and disc brakes. There are a few EFI 4.9's in the pull-a-part that should bolt right up to the motor mounts and transmission, but that's next year. For now, I'm just happy to have it home.

Nice. Same color as my brother's 69 f100. My grandfather bought his new also. It has the 460 in it though :) It's actually in the shop getting a full respray right now.

A few beauty shots of my 'baby' - the first photos I've taken of the car with the new wheels on it...

Mercedes officially rated the 5.4 V8 in the car at 349HP and 394tq. There's a lot of variability, however, considering the hand built nature of the engines, some end up coming out of the factory with considerably more. I see the factory rating as a guaranteed minimum number - ie: they won't let a car leave the factory with less power than that. I had the car dynoed when I first bought it - it did 342HP and 377tq to the wheels... that's at least 400hp at the crank. As far as quarter mile times go, I have a grand total of 4 runs - best run was a 13.2 @ 106mph. Purchased with 80,000 miles - I have 135,000 on it now. Most reliable car I've ever had - just fluid changes, and basic maintenance so far.

Best thing? It's completely boring to look at, built like a tank.. I couldn't ask for a better car. And it was $12,000, 3 years ago.

I think this truck would scare the hell out of me with a 460. It would be ok with double the power it has now, though. 150 gross horsepower when it was new, probably 100 SAE. Now, maybe 70.

Incidentally, I traded the factory monoblocks for those wheels that are on the car now... marked improvement in handling and ride quality. The Monoblocks were something like 34 pounds per rim, and the new ones are 26-27 per rim. So, it made a big difference. Though, if I had bought those wheels new, I wouldn't have gone for chrome. I prefer matte/painted, like the factory Monoblocks were...

And it's Los Angeles. I read an article a while back where a Mercedes VP mentioned at 85% of worldwide AMG production is sold in Southern California... I believe it.

drat, thats sad :( I found this truck when I was like 14 and was pining for it until 4 years ago when I got to pull it out of the barn and get it running. My great uncle wouldnt sell any of his stuff when he was alive and Im kinda glad about that cause I would have ruined it when I was a shithead teenager. You might want to look into some Soft 8 steelies or alloy clones. They look really good on anything 15-18-5x4.5 especially in flat black (or whatever nonsense you decide to plastidip them).

Yes! Left is large boat, right is small island nation. Worth it for that gear box though. I'm really impressed with the performance of this thing, it really feels more like proper sports car than hatchback made a bit quick. Unfortunately it's now stuck till I replace the awol clutch cable the PO had apparently attached with a hose clamp.
