5pm here... i realize it is near the winter solstice, but it ALWAYS gets dark early here during the winter (5-6pm), thanks to my location (the small part of FL in the central time zone)

so, how about you?

A LOT closer to 5, im in the panhandle of it (also known as southern georgia basically), where all the rednecks are. the rest of FL is in the eastern time zone, and i have lived numerous places, but no place does it seem to get so dark so early as it does here.

however, after reading some of these replies i guess im not alone. it sort of sucks balls. the second you get home/get ready to go out it is already dark as midnight. oh well, during the summer it stays light til about 9, so i guess it balances out in some hosed up way.

that is honestly the only factor keeping me from moving up there. well that, and i hate the cold.

I have tasted the fruit.

Around 14:00 (2 PM for you 12 hour clockers), Umeň in northern Sweden. The snow makes it brighter though. Also, I'll second the notion that living in Florida you know nothing about the sun setting early or staying up late.

Sunset and the time it actually is dark are two completely different things.

I live in northern alabama and the length of our twilight is about 30-40 minutes on a clear day from the moment the sun dips below the horizon.

At higher latitudes twilight lasts a LOT longer. I was completely amazed at how long twilight lasts when I went to visit relatives in Seattle a few summers ago. Even though the sun set at 8ish the sky was still obnoxiously bright for drat near four hours.

Last year around this time I had a strict rule: never leave the house after dark. I think I broke the rule no more than three times in two months, one of those instances was for a 7:30pm final exam.
