I played in an Ape Fight campaign that started in 1983 and ended in 2007, and over that time my PC earned only enough money to pay off his Ape School student loans and to buy himself ONE (1) restaurant meal, at a modestly priced ape-tavern. He certainly didn't have any laser pistols!! But let me tell you, when I got to RP him eating a small side of mixed vegetables, that was a real meaningful moment. I suppose people used to santa claus GMs just can't understand that feeling. Also, Apes only fight other primates, otherwise you might as well be playing airy-fairy fantasy land anything goes garbage. This is just what makes sense with the setting. It's not about tradition, or sticking to original Ape Fight just because it's been around, it's about having a modicum of respect for the internal logic of Ape Fight.

You can take a bunch of those cubes and glue them together to make a larger shape that can approximate the other dice you need. Fortunately, APE FIGHT is based on platonic solids, so this is possible. A friend who plays minecraft should be able to do this for you in about 3 minutes, or you can do it yourself following this guide from instructables http://www.instructables.com/id/prison-dice/ if you don't want to make new dice, then you should take all the six sided dice and roll them at once. Then make a line out them, and count them out in groups of 5. if the value of a single dice is 1-3, then count it as a 0, if it is 4-6, count is as a 1. You're going to convert the dice to binary and then make a five digit binary number (for a d20). Sometimes the number will be bigger than 20 when you convert it, so just take those dice and slide them to the back of the line. Good luck, and have fun rolling up your APE FIGHTER!

With apefight 1.1 out, I just don't like it. It doesn't havve the feel of 1.0, it's too focused on rollplaying rather than roleplaying. I plan to continue playing apefight the way it. Was originally intended. APEFIGHT OSR!

I agree, tentatively, but I'd like to add that a lot of the new fluff is optional and the mechanics are modular so you don't need to use them. I feel that a competent Ape Keeper could use them in a wise and judicious way that enhances the core of Ape Fight's ethos, philosophically.
