You can put me down as Drum and Bass, Bristol, UK. I'll start putting mixes up as soon as I get my laptop and all the gubbins hooked up.
Edit: Hurf durf.

Yeah I realised this on my commute this morning it was late last night and I thought 'I know I'll add myself to the list before I forget'. My bad.
Symptomless Coma: I don't play out, because I just haven't found the time to start looking for gigs etc. I am out and about a lot though! What have you been to the last couple months?
# ¿ Jan 15, 2009 17:42
Most US junglists would turn their nose up at this setlist, but frankly, I love dancehall dnb. MadCarrot, banging this out to 200+ must have been a hell of a rush.
I would normally at first glance, but the inclusion of Danny Byrd, Noisia et al gives it a nice feel, and frankly mixing it up with Pendulum and Danny Byrd (good lad on getting a bunch of Supersized in there by the way) in the same mix is impressive any way you look at it.

Symptomless Coma posted:
This would be possible with CDJs or Traktor etc, but I don't think there's anyway I could take part as I only use vinyl? Actually, you could maybe plug an iPod with the other person's half of the mix into the mixer, record that whole thing again, then mix out of it while still recording. If so I would be up for that (bristol heads reppin') but I am still really new at this so you'd have to cut me some slack.
# ¿ Jan 24, 2009 18:20
One of you do the first half, and the second person then records the second half. Depending on who started it, it will probably be easier to digital mix the two halfs together
Yeah, I wasn't planning on a B2B mix. I do think a 30-minute each mix would be fun though.
# ¿ Jan 24, 2009 22:54
I like house, but I can only afford to buy vinyl for one genre and it's way easier to find vinyl for everything D&B (at least in England) than it is for house. I'll probably get Serato/Traktor in a couple of years and use that to play house but still play all my D&B on vinyl. If only it weren't all so expensive.

I listen to all the mixes posted here except D&B. That stuff hurts my ears..
This makes me sad. Fair enough if you've heard plenty and it just isn't your cup of tea, but is the D&B you usually hear 'angry' D&B? If so, then I assure you that is but a fraction of D&B, and I'd be happy to provide some links to some examples of other sub-genres.

This is a minimal/liquid dnb set made by a friend of mine. There's a lot of techno-influenced stuff in there so you guys should check it out even if you don't normally like dnb - this is VERY different to the normal stuff. Apparently after around 28 minutes he forgot to stop recording so after that wasn't meant to be on there. I reckon it still sounds pretty good though.
Tracklist for first 28 minutes-ish:
Zyon Base & Hobzee - Rain on Lens
Commix - Bear Music
Instra:mental - Hunter
Phobia & Jubei - Guillotine (Breakages remix)
Electrosoul System - After Hours
Sabre - God Fearing
Naibu - Newport
Saburuko & Brother - In Control
Brooklyn - Someone (Naibu Remix)

Anyone seen this? I know there's a DJ equipment thread but it's a little dead, and you guys might be interested.
Allen & Heath's new cheaper mixer, the Xone:22. It looks very very good as a second mixer or something, the price is apparently around £240 - not sure about dollars but presumably around $400. I might save up for this one.
# ¿ Mar 5, 2009 22:51
Which is good because the 22 doesn't have it.

Looks nice, I'll check this. Komonazmuk is a local guy for me actually, so it's quite cool to see him pop up on a tracklist on SA.

As soon as I get rid of this lovely cold (mixing splits my head), I'll record and post up a drum n bass mix too.

it's just funny seeing that many original mixes...i would have just left it off since there were only 2 remixes.
I may well be misunderstanding but are you saying you wouldn't bother with a mix that only has 2 remixes?
# ¿ May 15, 2009 16:45
No I was talking about the graphic itself...he should have just left off the "(original mix)" after each song on the list.
Ah. I thought it may be something else. Was just too astounded at the other alternative not to ask.

Cheers guys. I'll check out that Sepia Tones EP, I really like that Instra:mental is doing, reminds me of the direction photek used to be going in.
I don't know if you get it already, but the Autonomic podcasts - done by dBridge and Instra:mental - are exactly this kind of thing. No tracklistings, though there are often fan-written ones on forums and so on, but amazing music. http://www.club-autonomic.com/

I'd love to be able to but to be honest dBridge and Instra:mental are the real ambassadors for this kind of stuff and autonomic is the best place to hear it. Even Layer 1 is still really relevant - stuff from that is only just being released - so make sure to listen to all of them.

Bit of a weird mix, ambient/trip-hop/techno/dubstep.
Props for including Komonazmuk, he's a proper local lad for me! Quite cool to randomly see his tracks on someone's internet mix.

8. Ed Rush & Optical - Chubrub (Virus)
9. >> Sub Focus - Rock It (RAM)
10. Nero - Do You Wanna (Viper)

Good selection (very good actually, especially for someone who presumably doesn't mix d'n'b often), beatmatching is a little off in places (between Microdaze and Transporter for example), and the mixing is a little boring - d'n'b mixing focuses around being exciting. Switching up long blends with creative chopping and cutting, teasing tunes, rolling out tunes for longer and then doing some quick mixing for a few tunes, etc. You just seem to mix the intro with the outro and let each tune play for both breakdowns. I pretty much only ever play the second breakdown of a tune if I've teased a tune over the top of it or if it simply has an UNMISSABLE breakdown (see: Fresh - Offworld). Great for a first try though, I'm impressed

Would anyone in here be willing to do a little mini-mix for me of some of the drum n bass songs I've produced? I want to put up a little teaser of some songs on youtube but I have no turntables and dont know how to mix in the least.. My songs are here so ya'll can get a feel for what it'd be like. If you're willing you can PM me on here or something, I guess. Thanks all!
I would, but I play vinyl (for now) so I can't. Top tip however - if you're making d&b for fun etc, it's cool, but if you want people to play your music out then learn how to mix so you know how things sit in mixes and what works well etc.
# ¿ Aug 30, 2010 14:18
On my website there's now a nerdy Drum&Bass mix, a chillout mixtape and some European tech house for those who like these kinds of things
Your description for the d&b mix on that website confuses me. You seem to be annoyed with d&b producers for not sticking to simple percussion intros (what, you don't like them actually trying to make music instead of just tools for djs?), and yet I know for a fact that every single track on that mix has at least a simple hi-hat intro. Let me know if I've got the wrong end of the stick, I'm just not sure what your gripe is here.
# ¿ Nov 2, 2010 11:04
At least you aren't TOO animated like I fear I am most of the time. I'm all jumping and waving my hands and banging my fist... and if my last track is something really banging, I'm all over the place dancing around like an idiot.
I do this. I think people like it. At least, it makes them smile. Probably think I'm a knob though.

It's because Goa is a state (?) in southern India where really epic psytrance parties used to take place in the 90s, and it had it's own sound, hence Goa trance. I think.

Just finished one of my new mixes to help promote the society/night that I help run down in Exeter. Taking in a big spectrum of music - there's a whole shitload of music that isn't on there, originally I was going to do a big loving 3 hour mix but I decided to split it up into two. This one's the more 'party' vibe mix - I tried not to be too deep and obscure on this one, because at the end of the day it is promoting a party night for students.
