Looking for pretty, melancholic piano ballads like Radiohead's "I Want None of This", Jim Morrison's solo performance of "Orange County Suite" or this performance of "Wild Goose Chase" by Dark Dark Dark. Any suggestions?

Diamanda Galas is too melodramatic for me but Anna Von Hausswolff is working out for me. The fluttering piano motion "I Am Leaving" is gorgeous!

I am a massive Mountain Goats fan and love everything John has ever done but I do sometimes feel the recent stuff loses something in the improved production, don't get me wrong he still writes beautiful songs with amazing lyrics but I sometimes miss the straightforward beauty of songs like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7bG0EwAj7U So yeah, anyone got any reccomendations for other simple lofi bedroom folk style songs in a similar vein to early Mountain Goats? Just one man, one guitar and one tape recorder kind of setup.

Hi, requesting ugly music. Ugly in the sense that it makes you feel sick inside but is still deeply satisfying, music that works by being very conscious of how it is not working. The Drift by Scot Walker would be a good example of what I'm after, anything in that vein would be much appreciated.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but his voice really reminded me of Danzig. The style especially reminded me of "Blood and Tears" by Danzig. I would also recommend King Crimson. They always make me feel either confused or ill, but either way satisfied artistically. I would say try listening to Moonchild, or at least the first half of it (because the song is 12 minutes long) or if you want the more confused feel, try Elephant Talk or 21st Century Schizoid Man

NIN's Ghosts I-IV. This is amazing. Was my go-to album to play in the background to make my house seem less empty when nobody was around. Now I've actually gotten into it and I'm starting to really love some of the compositions on the album. What are some albums like this, instrumental with a variety of different types of instrumentation, compositions and textures?

Hey, not exactly what I was looking for yeah, but it's still awesome finding new bands anyway, sounds good. I only had really heard "Where Eagles Dare" by the Misfits, looks like it's worth digging a bit deeper into this guy's catalogue. I'm a huge King Crimson fan, good call recommending Elephant Talk, Discipline would definately be my favourite album by them.

Ghosts is quickly becoming one of my favorite NIN albums, it's so atmospheric and unusual. It's hard to find anything similar, but you might try The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble - self titled album is a great place to start. It's got all the wonderful dark textures and atmospheres, and a good deal of the instrumental variations.

Going to be to rather separate genres but here it goes. 1. Some stuff in the vein of Gravity Kills? Relatively recent, since I probably have anything earlier than mid to late 90s already. 2. Ever listened to Matt & Kim? Happy music(!) like that. I'm honestly not even sure how to categorize them so as to look around. What do you guys recommend? 3. At the intersection of Blood Red Shoes, Maximo Park and We Are Scientists, whats good?

Also if you've never heard Never Shout Never, they're pretty good.

Okay, here's a request that'll stump you guys - what's a good artist that blends/switches between really happy, even saccharine music with really hardcore, harsh stuff? I'm thinking specifically of Bubblegum Octopus, who mainly does cutesy chiptunes and falsetto vocals with occasional death growls, and Passenger of poo poo, who mainly does similar cutesy chiptunes with harsh noise/speedcore beats/high-pitched shrieking.
