I've recently become obsessed with the Mick Fleetwood's drumming on Fleetwood Mac's "What Makes You Think You're The One" from Tusk. That drug-fueled controlled-chaos style. Any other songs or bands that have that style? Man Man hits it with their song "Engrish Bwud" as well.

Harmaja? They're not proggy and weird like Sigur Ros etc, but fit the "sleepy" and "feelings" tags pretty well, imo. Melodic, mostly acoustic folk-rock or something to that effect, in Finnish:

"etc for the past year" covers a lot of ground, so here are a bunch of names that will hit on-or-around the mark: Stars of the Lid, Yndi Halda, Labradford, Windy & Carl, Tel Aviv, Duster, This Will Destroy You, Au Revoir Borealis, Scenic, El Ten Eleven, Shalabi Effect, Red Stars Theory, Yume Bitsu, Low (early stuff), Spacemen 3, Auburn Lull, Hammock, Brian Eno, Darla Record's Bliss Out series. obviously a few of those are on Kranky, the same label as Grouper, so you might already know them, and if not, they have a lot of stuff like that. also gonna assume you know Mogwai, who have a lot of music that would fit the bill, but are equally likely to play ten minutes of feedback and Sabbath riffs

Pretty much anything mastered or remastered by Steven Wilson. If any of his many projects (Porcupine Tree, Storm Corrosion, as himself, etc.) ain't your jazz, you've got remastered King Crimson, Yes, Jethro Tull and more.

Tell me if you're interested in recommendations from specifically his discog.

I wouldn't call the vocals aggressive but maybe these will scratch your itch:

Tom Waits - Whistling Past the Graveyard:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O127XdrcXVM

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - Me and You and the Bottle Make Three
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Fmo_AT4Rvw

Stray Cats - Rock this Town (I imagine you've heard this)

Cherry Poppin Daddies - Drunk Daddy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSvVZoT0-G8

Squirrel Nut Zippers - Hell
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5X3SZGqG_A

Aside from the Tom Waits (I just thought it might be of interest due to the vocals), you may want to look into the swing revival which peaked in the mid-90's. Cherry Poppin Daddies and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy were really the two main acts to break out onto the radio.

I been reading this thread on and off (enjoying the music along the way). I have three requests. The first is rap songs that tell a story. The song Scarface I Seen a Man Die is exactly what I'm looking for.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kb48pc9NsqU

The second request is what's a band like Crystal Castles? Like does weird electronic music in a variety of genres maybe? Or what can I search for to find bands similar to it? I found Crim3s which is pretty close wondering if they're anymore.

Lastly, just got into Louis Armstrong's Saint James Infirmary Blues as was wondering if there anything else like it. Like that trumpet is amazing.

I realize this is kind of all over the place genre wise, but figured I'll give it a go anyway. Thanks.

As far as rap storytellers, hard to go wrong with Ghostface or Slick Rick (or Scarface, for that matter).
Shakey Dog is prob my favorite storytelling rap ever. You could basically transcribe it and have the start of a screenplay. Just an amazing song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZEFEHf0pMA

Another Ghost track, it's...something different. About a dude who had the script for "Ray" stolen from him (for real).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQMwPd7H3-g

Slick Rick has a bunch of classic stuff. By far his most famous track (for good reason)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjNTu8jdukA

Lupe's really solid with storytelling as well when he wants to:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjCiKk-wHys

And Outkast as well:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0tamp9XdqU

All of those artists should have what you're looking for (also check out Nas, especially his older stuff). Kendrick's a newer dude who also can tell very vivid stories.

That's a decent amount for a start, you want more feel free to ask here or in the rap thread. Sure lots of dudes will add their favorites.

So, I enjoy reggae and dub. But I'm not a huge fan of Bob Marley. Here's a list of what I do like, perhaps you could point me in the next direction:

Chaka Demus and Pliers
Jimmy Cliff
Toots and the Maytals
Prince Buster
The Selecter (UK)
Desmond Dekker
Alton Ellis
Junior Kelly
Collie Buddz
Barrington Levy
Lee "Scratch" Perry
Kardinal Offishal (I know he's mostly a rapper, but he has a strong reggae and dancehall vibe to his stuff)
Junior Murvin

Any thoughts? Compilations are appreciated in particular, if you know of some that would click with these artists.

Just go through Soul Jazz's and Pressure Sounds' catalogues for compilations that sound good (paying heed what terms like "rocksteady" and "deejay" mean). I wouldn't say there's anything definite to pick. Maybe Soul Jazz's Studio One Classics.

Also The Wailers made some great, great, great records and "Bob Marley is whatever" is just a weird phase that people go through.

Song Exploder is a good one. The host talks to a wide range of musicians about how they made a particular song. It can get very technical (at least, it seems technical to a layman like me) but they will also discuss how lyrics came up, what they mean, that sort of thing.

NPR's All Songs Considered is good if you want a weekly show to hear new tracks. Musically, it's what you'd expect from NPR.

KCRW's Top Tune is also a good. Every morning there's just a new track. Pretty eclectic.

Most Satchmo tunes are good, check out Cabaret and Dream a Little Dream, etc. if you haven't already. For great trumpet, maybe give Al Hirt a try. His cover of Cotton Candy is amazingly 'precise' if that's the proper word for it. Also, Haydn trumpet concertos are pretty hot if you dig the classics.
